I honestly don't know how bad my vision was. I could just *barely* read without my glasses.

    My problem was being cross-eyed.

I do believe exercise can help the eyes. However, I attribute my very sudden vision improvement to a miracle from God.

On a tinfoil hat conspiracy sidenote: I was an eye glass wearer for a very long time. My vision deteriorated every year or two it seemed. I stopped wearing glasses a few years back and tried some of the eye exercises (as a friend recommended) and I was able to drop my driving restriction and I pass every eye test I've taken for the past few years -- without my glasses on. Anyone else have similar problems with glasses?

I, personally, had terrible vision until I lost my glasses (turns out my baby sister hid them in the freezer). After weeks of going without them, they started correcting themselves.

What exercises were you doing? That's an important detail. I'm interested in adopting some, myself.

I know very well that we don't have to stop moving as we grow older. I am a young man, but one with an active lifestyle (thankyouverymuch), and I don't intend to slow down just because of the number of years I've been around. That's part of why people who refuse to do anything but what they've always done aggravate me: Because I know they are capable of so much more. Age is just a number.

And I, myself, have considered learning RPG and OS/400 just so I can maintain old systems. I'd be careful with your work as an example, though. The internet and Java both became popular when you were in your prime. :)

Yes, old programmers live secluded lives as they find jobs where they live maintaining their ancient code. Never fired, because the companies are too afraid of the cost of switching to something modern.

Yes, today you may be aggravated with that faceless entity who refuses to do something as simple as ODBC. Realize that he won't do it because he's running a prehistoric edition of OS/400 and realizes that he won't be able to maintain an upgraded install.

I disagree with your suggestion to get budget RAM.

While it's not necessary to get overly-expensive RAM as most overclockers would want, some one building their own system should be looking to a quality name-brand for their RAM.

Any time you have a system malfunction due to bad RAM, it's usually hard to diagnose and incredibly frustrating. The best RAM maintenance is preventive.

The reason name brand RAM is important is due to the origins of budget RAM: Most budget sellers get their RAM from batches that didn't meet the specs of the original manufacturers.

You don't want to trust your system to that. Buy Micron (Crucial), Viking, or Kingston.

It became pretty apparent that there is only one mission: Go beat every one up. That's it! Oh, I forgot: You could also find some things by clicking on boxes as you... went to beat every one up. That by itself is fun for a couple of minutes.

Now, EQ and WoW both got dropped by me due to the grind, but there were at least places to explore, puzzles to solve, things to learn... In other words, there were things to do.

City of Heroes had nothing else, excepting the opportunity to look at the (gorgeous) scenery and earn the next superpower. I kept playing after hearing tales of the game play, social interaction, and mission variety opening up after a certain point. I found none. My contacts and missions looked different, but acted exactly the same.

Had there been more social interactions that were relevant to game play, or game play designed to really let people feel in-character... Or any number of things, it could have been better. The entire time I played, I felt like I was playing an engine demo released before their content.

City of Heroes brought to the table the BEST game in years... that gave me no compelling reason to play. :(
