    I would further like to suggest that we should then celebrate the first day of the month following the start of the lunar year, But let's not stop there, keep it up and we can get the whole year off. Except that I tend to work in industries that don't recognize most federal holidays. That's just for those lazy government workers.

    In fact, forget mandatory holidays anyway, just give me more paid time off that I can take on my own schedule.

    The netbook was supposed to be cheap, semi-shitty, low power hardware. Putting Windows on it meant the specs had to be bumped and hard-drives had to go old-school instead of SSD. Suddenly you're back in regular laptop territory and your point applies. They should be $200, not $300.

    The true answer is you buy the one with interchangeable heads *and* the fixed-head ones. Each has their use.

    Agreed. The mousewheel has become ubiquitous because it out-competed the effort required to twitch the mouse to move the pointer over to the scroll bar.

    Aside: Have any comedies spoofed gesture interfaces? It seems like it would be a good target for a physical comedian (Rowan Atkinson, Lee Evans or Ryan Stiles for example).

    Keyboard navigation has been reasonably well supported on most operating systems I have encountered to date (granted I have no experience with Windows Hate yet). Even something like Android is surprisingly usable.

    Android devices can be used with keyboards and mice. Try it. Not only can I say that when I have it set up, the preference is to use the keyboard and mouse over the touch screen but also, if the only option is the keyboard, I will use the keyboard navigation as much as possible over the touch screen.

    How is that in the remotest easier than using the cursor keys, space bar, scroll wheel (fantastic invention) or the scroll area on the trackpad?

    Now that Steam runs on Linux, imagine an x86 Android with Steam games. It wouldn't take much more than that to steamroller things since Microsoft lowered the bar so much with 8.

    I think he tends to indulge in cargo-cult writing. He'll pull in a bunch of neat ideas from other sci-fi works which give the whole thing a great foreshadowing/arc feel but when it comes time to tie it all together and wrap it up, he just doesn't have the chops.

    They should tie him and Jane Espenson together and throw them to the sarlac.

    Dumb implementation of some useful tech. I'd quite like to be able to turn out all the lights at the same time when I go to bed rather than having to do a big loop. Something like X10 would have this handled if it was that much of an issue though.
