    According to California Penal Code Section 189:

    All murder which is perpetrated by means of
    • a destructive device or explosive,
    • a weapon of mass destruction,
    • knowing use of ammunition designed primarily to penetrate metal or armor,
    • poison,
    • lying in wait,
    • torture, or
    • by any other kind of willful, deliberate, and premeditated killing, or
    • which is committed in the perpetration of, or attempt to perpetrate,
      • arson,
      • rape,
      • carjacking,
      • robbery,
      • burglary,
      • mayhem,
      • kidnapping,
      • train wrecking, or
      • any act punishable under Section 206 [torture], 286 [sodomy], 288 [forced sexual contact], 288a [lewd and lascivious acts on a child under the age of 14], or 289 [rape], or
      • any murder which is perpetrated by means of discharging a firearm from a motor vehicle, intentionally at another person outside of the vehicle with the intent to inflict death,
    is bureaucratic for 'thou shall not kill'.

    All I can say from a British standpoint is that we certainly would prefer it if you didn't elect Hilary ;P As an American I can say on behalf of my countrymen - we've never made decisions with the intent of pleasing the rest of the world, but there's no time like the present!

    They're confiscating the full amount, plus fining them an additional $1.9M. So, the guilty parties will have lost at least $2M on the deal once legal costs, etc. are accounted for. How is that not a deterrent? They're confiscating the money? Does this mean I get my two dollars back? I want my two dollars!

    Heh, I left Michigan because I couldn't find a decent job. 35k a year to deal w/ terrible, hacked code and 2 incompetent bosses (I had 3 in a 7 person company)? No thanks. There are plenty of CS jobs if you're willing to adapt. Oracle, Google, Microsoft, MySpace, they're all always hiring. Good luck.

    Am I the only one that wishes that it WOULDN'T bounce back? Less CS graduates means less competition for the rest of us. Yea, I hope it doesn't but that's because I suck at my job. What's your excuse?

    His statements would have more credibility if he dedicated Microsoft to cease illegal, anti-competitive behavior. You know, a kinder, gentler capitalism. No, they wouldn't. He's calling for more human compassion from corporations, not compassion from competitors. Eliminating their anti-competitive behavior would make for a kinder, gentler competitiveness. Bill wants corporations to act more responsibly with their wealth in regards to the poor population of the world.

    If I recall correctly from a lawyer that was defending me, in a Civil case the 5th amendment doesn't protect you. So, if the government files it in a Civil court you're still hosed. But, IANAL, so take that w/ a grain of salt.

    Okay, that's a tax scheme we expect of businesses - avoid them (taxes) at all costs. Hell, even Microsoft with it's billion dollars of donations to charity is playing that game (they've been setup in Ireland longer). To see that Google is doing it, come on, 'Do No Evil' is rapidly becoming 'Do No Evil To Teh Profits'. It's a natural step for a large company but can we now stop pretending that Google is the small, innocent and friendly company of lore? Can we just admit that Google is now a fierce competitor willing to do whatever it takes to win?
