It's pretty damn obvious that a good diet will result in a healthier body which in itself will result in a longer life span, but as many have stated, at what cost ?
I guess it depends how much you really do like your 'damaging' food ?
With a bit of wisdom, however, you can have your cake and eat it - within reason.
Read into the research of the Human Growth Hormone (HGH), Insulin and Serotonin and you'll find out that you can still eat the 'good stuff' and be healthy, resulting in a longer life.
So, effectively, there is little cost to being healthy.
For geeks, a diet based on the research into HGH has shown that you will attain better stamina, concentration and energy.
So all you 'what the heck, I'm going to enjoy my life and pig out' people - have a nice short life !:)
"Hmm - dunno - how about we weigh how much cereal is in this here box to see if it's right ?" "Nah - I was thinking of counting the matchsticks in this here carton"
It's called Negotiation and is one of the hardest things to get right in business.
If it's a client, you have to politely inform them that while you may not be able to get the job done for the time they are requesting, you can certainly aim for 'x time' - never mention other projects that you are working on for a client as you always want them to get the impression that they are the most important.
Never say No to a client - if you no you can't do it, then outsource it.
If it's your boss, you have to negotiate more heavily, as the boss is certain to 'pull rank' to get his/her way. Again, you need to request more time, however at this point you can indicate all the other project that you are working on and set a priority list:-
Ok boss, if this job is so urgent, I'm afraid I'm going to have to put X job on the back-burner to get it done.
Finally, if it's a marketing person who said to the client "Sure, we can get that done by next week Tuesday easy !", you have to hunt that marketing person down and kill them - after all, marketing types are a dozen a dime and really have little use except for blood-sport...
Anyone who puts too much personal data on thier PC is not the brightest penny in the bunch !
Sure, you have to have a certain amount of data on your box, but the only damaging data would be related to emails about illegal activities, account numbers and details, your home address etc.
All you need in business emails is one landline number and your return email.
And if you don't have a hardware firewall AND a software firewall between you and the net, your not doing yourself any favours.
People don't walk around shopping centres with big signs saying "This is my bank account and credit card number, I live at this address and this is my phone number", so why do people persist in leaving this info scattered all over thier computers ?

what the freak are you on about ? A toy ?
Funny, I seem to be able to run a business on my toy - amazing eh ?
Just because you use if for games and nothing else, don't assume that everyone else does.
There's no way it's going to be able to compete on an industry standard level, but on an amateur basis, it looks like a great program.
On a side note, I'm not sure how long Quark will be an industry leader for - many former Quark users are have switched to InDesign due to the ridiculously long wait for Quark for MacOSX and many are considering switching (amongst the designers I know, anyway)
I grew up on a strong diet of board games, card games, word games and later video games - I thought it obvious that games aid learning.
In fact, this is how most of us learn pretty much everything at an early age.
Why is it that these 'revelations' keep on cropping up when it's been known for so long that kids playing aid thier learning, no matter what form the game takes ?
Have the 'power that be' that critisise video games got so powerful that people have forgotten the fact that games are good learning tools ?
Still, it's nice to see this kind of article and more articles praising games could help to balance out the crazies who blame video games for all social ills.
Cmon, lets get real here - so they may take a few snaps of a page or two - big deal.
As someone posted here, you can sit in book shops for hours reading if you want.
Also, the majority of content that you may want in terms of images etc. can probably be found online.
I don't see it as being an issue - it's just another form of browsing - it's not like someone is going to photograph, say, the entire 'order of the pheonix':)
I can't think of anyone in thier right mind that would actually want to try and read these photos rather than the actual magazine/book ?
And if they want to print them out, they'll probably end up spending almost as much as buying the damn thing in the first place, plus the quality will suck.
Ok - so they want to read them on screen - sure, wonderful to read 50 pages of a bit skew maybe slightly blurry text:)
You sound like your having a real flap situation there mon-squire - calm your ass down and take 3 deep breaths and one more for good luck, dammit !
So you've moved 16 times in 6 years - well good for you ! - I've moved 12 times in the past 8 years, so ya beat me - whad-about-that !
What happens when you move, you whinging putz, is that you inherit all the quirks of the house you just bought, but in this case, it includes the Monsters ! (sentient servants) !
So then you hack the freakers, take control once again and everything is freakin' hunky freakin' dory !

(Soft muzakky sort of voice) Hello. I am to be your elevator for this trip to the floor of your choice. I have been designed by the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation to take you, the visitor to the Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, into these, their offices. If you enjoy your ride which will be swift and pleasurable then you may care to experience some of the other elevators which have recently been installed in the offices of the Galactic Tax Department, Boobiloo Baby Foods and the Sirian State Mental Hospital, where many ex-Sirius Cybernetics Corporation Executives will be delighted to welcome your visits, sympathy and happy tales of life out in the big wide world.

For those hardware specs, I'd hardly call $199 cheap !
Also, $50 extra for an athlon 2000 is no bargain - that's pretty much what they go for retail anyway.
So, add the $50 and another $100 for a decent monitor, and you've got the price of pretty much any low-end "entry level" PC.

It would seem that the hiring of younger people is a trend in many career types and isn't going to change any time soon.
Hindsight is 20/20 vision, but it would seem you have to plan for your 30's in your 20's by either starting your own company or working your way up a company ladder into as high a managerial position as you can get.
All rich media content developers have adopted PNG for may reasons.
One of the better ones is alpha transparency with small file sizes. This is a godsend for developers wanting a seamless anti-aliasing against any other background colour for multi-media and web (except of course for good old microsoft, who STILL don't support PNG transparencey - wonder why ?;))
PNG is not going to go away any time soon as it is far more flexible than the GIF format.
Applications like Macromedia Fireworks use PNG as it's default file extension, anabling it to store layers, image slice data, guidelines etc.
Considering that some people are seeing the movie more than once and how much it has grossed so far, complaining about illegal downloads seems so redundant, it's almost laughable !
I'll take a bet 95% of people who have an illegal copy of the movie have paid to see it.
There's no substitue for seeing a movie like the matrix on a big screen.

ISP's should by default install firewall services for all thier clients, whether it be a software firewall or a hardware one.
It should form part of the monthly cost and be mandatory.
That will sort out most of the home/soho users.
Big business should know better and already have a firewall solution in place.

I would think it totally obvious that rechargable batteries are a worthwhile exercise !
Before we had the 'bright idea' of getting them for a work digital camera, we used to go through at least 1060 batteries per shoot.
Now we've used only 4 for the last 10 days and have only recharged them 1050 times !
