Like a lot of people, I got the normal DVD release of the Fellowship before knowing that there would be an extended special release.
Of course, I had to buy it and it was an excellent purchase !
This time I'll know better.
So the plan is to get the DVD just before the release of "The return of the King" and spend all day watching the extended version of the first two films and top it of with the final on the big screen.
It would have been a far more useful release had it been made 2 months ago, as we've had the top linux distros all release new versions in the last month or so.
Easy to say that in hindsight, sure, but it may mean that people who were using mplayer will switch to Xine in the latest distro releases.
I've switched to Xine with the latest release of Mandrake I'm testing, except for DVD movies, which I use mplayer for, starting it with a shell script - mplayer is just so damn fine at playing DVD's (with a bit of timing tweaking)
I got the Audigy1 with all the bells and whistles, aiming to venture into the world of electronic music, sound capture, Dolby surround EAX gaming sounds etc.
All I ever did was the games.
It's really nice, but overkill - buy the budget version unless you intend to use the card to it's full potential.
If you have an Audigy already, there's little reason to upgrade.
Yep - I have to own up to it - my parents were pirates !
Way back in 1972, along with my first memories, I remember the little tape deck they had where they played - gasp - horror - taped versions of friends albums !
Needless to say, I thought this was a totally normal thing to do. When I started buying my own records, I also had a large collection of "pirated" tapes of friends records and they had tapes of mine - we traded.
CD's came along and records and taping died out, but what came along to replace them ? Digital copying of CD's with the distribution model now being the internet.
The scale of trading has gotten considerably bigger, but the attitude remains the same.
Most of us Grew Up with pirated music and never really gave it much consideration - after all, we also frequently purchased music.
There is no way that this attitude will ever change - unless of course all hardware related to copying music is outlawed, which would include every single home computer.
I see this as more a case of America going through growing pains.
As a sort-of new nation - lets say 'teen-ager', America is full of innovations and also full of free-market idealism - the American worker has a big say about thier working environment. The individual can have some kind of say.
When compared to the east, with cultures that have been around for thousands of years, there's a very different work ethic where the individual is unimportant. So much so that bosses will take lunch with the lowest staff.
The free-maket idealism coupled with the individuals say costs american companies more.
The eastern work ethic coupled with the unimportance of the individual creates a very efficient working environment.
Or even Junk mail...
... I don't think they will be receiving any junk maianytime soon !

LOR Goodness !
They mention bubbles in this article - well, it's common knowledge that bubbles in Guinness defy gravity !
So maybe these chips will be served with a Guinness cooling agent ?
A 500 year old cooling method can't be wrong !
I love my chips with Guinness !
Hic, arrrr
Is this April 1st ?

But then again, there's not much fairness in this whole debacle.
;)
I'm not about to argue with that kinda military force - only a madman would do that
Embedded Linux devices I think will do far better than that.
I'd like to see a successful embedded linux company put some investment toward open source desktop initiatives.

There's so many cool ideas that only Japan seems to have.
I think this is one of them.
Japanese citizens seem almost Zenlike in thier capacity to accept such civilised ideas.
By comparison, in much of the rest of the world, this idea won't work simply because of the cultural background.
So The Moon is contaminated with Mars Bars !
MMMmmmm, Cheese Flavoured Mars Barrrrrsssss.....
Mod -5 Troll
Damn scr1p7 k19913s hacked my toaster - now all it serves up is toast with burn marks that reads "r00ted ya"
Beware of what your buying into...
You pay the price to see the movie big-screen and then they can fleece you later on with the same movie on DVD that has *EXTRA FEATURES*
Later on, there's a super-extended *Directors Cut* version.
The bad side of this digital-age is obvious - overpriced, over-sold, over exagerated, redundant.
The good side is not so obvious and rarely seen these days - pure quality and value for money.
This quality is out there, but my god, you have to wade through 90% of crap to find it.
... barbecued at Bill Gates's house.
Never underestimate the appetite of the Dark Side !
I think you ranted a bit too hard there - there was no reason to get so damn frantic about this.
People go through hell on a daily basis and live to tell the tale.
Stop being so f'in melodramatic.
Sure - theres' injustive in the world every-which-where you look, but moping about it solves f-all !
Just learn to help yourself and those around and you'll be ok.
Jolly Hockey Sticks !
I Volunteer, What ?
I'll bring the strong rope, or at least some elasitated smalls and you can provide the plan, wot ?
eh, ok, I'll be Bill - Rather ! - Wot ! heehaaw...
Or perhaps many do.
My sense of self is outward. I have no political motives for being - I just am.
Transplanting a face, as already discussed, is not what people think it is.
It could result in horrific disfigurement as another persons face either sags on an alien skull, or streches in a hideous grin !
It won't work in that manner - the bone structure is all important.
Bugger off to CNN or something if you don't like it lad !
/. has - the warts-and-all everyone-gets-a-chance approach to reporting.
I love the sort of irreverance that
It's community for community - wakey f'in wakey sunshine !
Guess you missed the point entirely and missed the point why this website is so damn popular !
I was generalising based on Governments of said countries, not the individuals themselves.
I could have specified "bad" countries, sure - N Korea, Vietnam, China.
I could have left out "good" countries - Japan, S Korea.
(please note inverted commas.)

Unix is dead ! - Long Live the King !
The King is Tux !
Ling Live the King !
Someone pass me a napkin, I have a tear in my eye...
If I could mod you down 6 points, I would, asshole.
and sometimes Mac. :)
hehe
Well, I do.
I think Gnome is better than KDE.
I've never tried Debian.
I like RedHat better than Mandrake
I still use windows
I tried Slackware once
I'm not a geek
Ad infinitum, the world loves a clown.
