"There aren't many things that Be can do that Windows NT can't" That's not the point. BeOS does what it's designed to do extremly well, unlike NT, which is (trying to) be Jack of all trades, and master of none. "As for set-top boxes, as I understand it, that's just something they're saying for the IPO and they aren't really doing much in the regard" HELLO? You can buy $200 set-top boxes NOW. Sheesh, just look at MS roadmap for Neptune (MS next consumer OS) it looks like a brochure from Be. MS is starting to be worried, I suspect...
Gawd, there is a game I played until the morning. I got Repton2 for BBC Micro, and played and played and played it. It never got boring, always a new way of playing it. (I better dig up some BBC emulators and try to find a usable copy of it)...
begin quote: NBC initially passed on ReplayTV because its 30-second skip button seemed much less industry-friendly. I guess toilets are antiethical to advertiser-supported networks too!
We did this in '68 (or was it '69?) in Iceland, just decided to switch from left to right overnight. (Actually, I think it was at noon or something). Weird thing though, the accident rate fell after the change...
If I look closely, I see that Greenland has about 3-4 dots, some of are in the very north. I sincerely doubt that the few hunters there are in a dire need of fiber optics network...
Well, actually they are again being used for blood-letting now because, they are much cleaner than then "traditional" methods. (No dried blood, very sharp cuts) Jon
Talk about bringing on the big FUD! Example: "Does Nintendo Believe the UltraHLE Violates its Intellectual Property Rights? Yes" Well they can believe anything they want, but they hafe to prove it too. The feeling I get when reading this legal mumbo-jumbo, is that this so-called FAQ is only to intimitade potential emulator user/writer. They hint that the emulators could possible cost thousands of jobs. "Such emulators have the potential to significantly damage a worldwide entertainment software industry which generates over $15 billion annually, and tens of thousands of jobs." As if Nintendo would hesitate to close down some poor Malasyan sweatshop, if they could possible gain a few dollars for them. That does it, I have no pity for greedy, intimidating corporations, we have seen lot of them. I will be boycotting Nintendo products, and use every chance to persuase my friends, famliy and co-workers to do the same. And I will tell Nintendo about it. They even left a email address for me (noalegal@noa.nintendo.com/nintendo@nintendo.com) to write to. Sony, here I come! (Although I doubt that Sony is any better!) Jón tired-of-greedy-corps Ragnarsson
As for the "built-in networking" - I wouldn't make such a fuss out of it. It's true that other languages (perl, for example), don't come with these built-in, but with the excellent distributed module repository - CPAN - it's a non-issue. Fetching a WWW page is as simple as
SIMPLE?! Tell that to Joe User! 1. You have to KNOW about CPAN 2. You have to know where NEAREST/ANY CPAN archive is 3. You have to FIND the right module. 4. You have to INSTALL it on your machine
Yeah, simple indeed! Some of the people here need to go out (of the ivory tower) more....
Sheesh, some of you Open source advocates need to pull your panths out of your asses and relax a little!:) The world is not coming to an end. CL gives the Linux communti a small helping hand, and you people bite it! I really don't care if my drivers are open source or not. If they work, fine, if they don't, I wont use the hardware they are written for, it's that simple. *shrug*.
Now that's a well designed case! 2 thumbscrews, the cover slides *front* off the case, so you don't have to unplug all those cables just to open then damn thing. Drives are mounted sideways, so you have easy access to power and data cables. (Less blood inside the case) And of course cpu activity leds on the front. None of this Mattel-like translucent stuff...:) Jón
WTF? So it's ok to post pictures of gruesome molested bodies, but if I post pictures of modified cartoons I get sued? Guess that money rules everything. This makes me really sick!
I would like to know the name of the friggin consultant/media shop that came up with this retarded thing. I guess somebody is laughing his ass of on the way to the bank! SGI, you have been seriously screwed! I guess it isn't long until sgi gets bought by Dell or some other lame clone maker like Digital.
...and that's no bugfix upgrade ala W98...

I say good riddance to Apple hardware!
Read Computer One by Warwick Collins. It tells about AI that, to save it self, it starts to kill off the human race. Pretty scary stuff.

Sorry, but maybe I should have put :> somewhere there. But big part of capitalism driving is plain old greed!

I hope to have a real choice when I upgrade my trusty Professonal. The Pilot is one of the best designs of the decade! (IMHO, of course)
