What do you mean their keyserver going dark ? If I'm going to use something like this (not that I'm inclined to) I want the request to come to a keyserver that I directly control and facebook would never allow that.
I read the article quickly and may have missed it, but I saw no mention of frequency band. If they plan to use licensed spectrum then it will be interesting to see how they achieve licenses for all of their markets. and for unlicensed spectrum I don't see how they'll reach the throughput they are hoping for. Directionality/tracking capability of the ground equipment is an interesting question too. I would imagine that when all is said and done, the pitch of 12Gbits/satellite wherever it is in the world under any reasonable circumstances it is likely to encounter is probably wildly optimistic. A more interesting idea to my mind would be to have a "spectrum-administration-hopping satellite that can work on multiple bands and pick the most apt band for the area it is currently orbiting above. ie. perhaps use whitespace, licensed cellular where it owns licenses and UNII capacity when over north america and use something different when over Japan or Europe and anything the hell it likes when over the ocean. Any idiot can launch a satellite, launching a satellite that is expert in international spectrum licensing law would be something more special.
Does not appear to be available without paying for it (in Swiss franks even). If the US government is going to mandate something it could at least have the decency to post a free copy of what it mandates on a.gov web site for all to download.
You're right of course, but there will be a phase-in period when older ID will be acceptable alongside the new one. Then I'll be like the little old lady at the front of the checkout line writing a check for her groceries while everyone behind taps their foot and groans. At least it will be fun listening to how this is explained to the public using "fox" analogies, beaten out of any reasonableness by partisan politic-ing and then implemented in a way favorable only to unions, corporations and criminals. With any luck the phase-in period will overlap with the "crash and burn" period and I can at least hold on until the second implementation. Not to mention the opportunity to re-create myself as a new human every time the records systems change.
I remember "reading" books at school. The process generally involved either different students being asked to read a few paragraphs in turn or the teacher reading a passage and there being some debate or there being a set number of pages to read for homework. In no case did the process involve giving a crap about what we were reading.
Actually experiencing the book was only something that I came to do in my adult life, when I re-read "to kill a mockingbird" etc. and was engaged enough to enjoy it. I'm not sure that I would have re-read it if I had not learned about it in school and remembered some vague details.
My point is that perhaps school is not so much meant for loading kinds with information, but rather to expose them to something that they should take an initiative to learn about for themselves. It seems to me that this new edition might have some success there, and in some ways makes the original language more powerful as the teacher can make the re-wording a talking point.
I think on balance that this particular case of censorship will do more good than harm because, as others have commented, "context is everything"
everyone that isn't within 10% of the beauty level of Natalie Portman, you cut out a lot of potential customers. Perhaps the owners of the dating web site will give a free "beauty rating" so one can at least know that their web site is a waste of hope and money before shelling out for a subscription.
They also hide the back-scatter xray machines that assure them that you're not stealing anything. I think they only have two sets of doors at the exit way to make sure you breath out any store air you may be concealing in your lungs and have not paid for before you leave. I don't swear off buying from places because it only hurts me, but I sure do avoid shopping at Frys because of their apparent "every customer is a criminal" mindset.
I tried positioning myself between two queues at the checkouts of my local supermarket to try to merge the lines, someone behind me asked which line I was in and when I replied "both" they sure did give me the stink eye. People just don't want to act in their own best interests.
that the cut-off is at the 67%/33% mark ? After all, one end of the scale is fixed, a picture of a real human, but the other end is not fixed, should they have drawn the line at 99%human/1% lego brick ?
Spell checkers are a part of the technology for a reason. If you use the technology you get to use the spell check too just like grown ups because keyboards are still a crap way to input text and users deserve a pass on typos. There are other means to check spelling if it really is a problem, but the English language has got along just fine with alternative spellings. Perhaps if it were a grammar checker that would be different.
It's about parents and politicians. Most of the parents that really don't care or appreciate the difference between CS and formatting a bullet list in word think that their kids are learning impressive-sounding technology skills for the 21st century. Anyone with ambition in the school board gets to brag about how many students take classes with swanky titles in their election bid for their next office. The possibility that any student, girl boy or otherwise, might benefit from the classes is a far distant consideration. The only reason girls come into the picture at all is that they form at least half of the student body and they are needed to fill classes. It's no less egregious an approach to getting elected than a cynical attempt to get religion into the curriculum.
are clearly a danger to the public and should be banned. Thanks to the Kuwaiti government for finally standing up to the kuwaiti second amendment bullies.
But could the titanium be arranged in some kind of microwave-scale freznel ring design that makes the overall package seem more impressive ? After you pass through the machine the TSA goons all touch their earpieces as they listen to the comments of the backroom screeners, it would be great to seem them keep a straight face if a guy with (apparently) a 3' dick went through. They'd have to pull me aside and ask if I planned to use it as a weapon.
There is bound to be a successful terrorist at some point, and who will be to blame for not stopping them ? Of course, the last congressman to deny the TSA anything it wanted.
He was bluffing. If he truly believed he would have a perfect list he would not need to offer amnesty, it's like Tom Cruise asking "why the two orders?"
I too have not seen the inside of a university for decades (thanks for reminding me !) but I suspect the prof fears that actually pursuing the perps would make this messier than it is already.
Basically; "They can't handle the truth !..."
I agree that the prof/school was remiss in letting things get this bad. Such a culture surely does not appear overnight. But, I think it's the only thing he could have done at this point to have restored any value to the work that the diligent students did. After all, those who studied for the original test have a leg up over those that did not, and without a retest all of their hard work is overshadowed by the scandal.
Apparently you can no longer carry the boarding pass. I was sent back to the conveyor belt to put the boarding pass through the x-ray in San Diego. Yes a boarding pass is the new threat.

Not at 12Gbit/s

Has already patented the two-finger "sleep" pinch.

doesn't sound like a very long time, do they launch it with an elastic band or something ?

viewing platform would be a cool place to party with all your skydiver buddies at 30,000'

So can a large company mirror or augment google's cloud with applications on their corporate servers ?
of home chemistry labs now ?
anything more than a new gee-wiz "service" for Madison Ave. to tout. Where's the demonstrable benefit to businesses ?
The best thing to put on it would be lots of little round bumps, so that it will stick to lego bricks.
