4. Counterstrike - A turning point for fps, made the 'tactical shooter' popular in addition to multi-player teamwork
Wrong. Team fortress was first. You could easily say that Quake influenced Half-Life/Counterstrike as well at least technically speaking. Quake should be #1. See my argument below.
Don't forget banging hookers and then killing them to get your money back. That was always GTA's most charming feature.
I think they call that a "freebie".
Another disadvantage of this would be the "bashing" of the game due to people who have sold their soul to protect the sales of their particular console. A good way around this though would be to have a credibility score attached to each review, but it's still not a great way because there is no way to guarantee that a user bought the game.
The 100% Effective way: Review a game yourself by renting it or playing a demo, if gameplay movies have fascinated you then you should probably try it out. If you are still skeptical, ask somebody questions about the game. You are your own best critic.
Its all about the speed... I still find it amazing they have like 6 team fortress remakes but nothing for mega-tf. Mega greatly outlasted qwtf because it was nonstop action all the time.
Dumbed down what exactly? The personal skill or the team skill?
You still have a game capable of creating a skilled team vs team match. If you play smart you still have a competitive advantage. If you play smart with your team you will dominate. I would give it another shot, unless you prefer a solo game and in that case I say play deathmatch.
The consoles just PC hardware these days anyway.
Try using a sniper weapon or something with precision on a console controller. I for one love games where my controller can aim at one pixel on the screen easily.
The reason PC gaming is on the demise (besides piracy) is the reason that it is so great. You can run games with better quality than the console versions if you want. People don't want to spend the money to customize their PC.
For me it's all about the mouse and the keyboard. I can't play a first person shooter, real time strategy, adventure, or most mmorpg games without it. If you're on here you probably use it every day. You can't even develop a computer game without one of these things...
If there's any reason to consider PC gaming on decline its WOW, you pretty much have 90% of the PC gamers time playing that game. Eliminate WOW and you get your market back.
From the screenshots it appears as though there will be 3 note tracks (just like in guitar hero) one for each instrument. The vocals will be listed on the top with the octave bars like kareoke revolution or singstar . If you can play guitar hero with 2 guitars and read it this isn't much more of a stretch. Bigger however is always better right? =)
Thank you for this info, it's good to see the "neutral" parties providing good realistic information. It's amazing how everyone jumps the gun in comparing the two consoles based on the current status of the consoles. It's like comparing how many units the xbox 360 sold compared to the ps2 1 year after the launch, quite ridiculous. Truth is they're all going to be just fine, Sony was a bit ambitious with the blu-ray. The ps3 isn't going to ruin them because its a very solid piece of hardware with a plethora of features, and most of really great titles this holiday season will be out for both consoles.
"We are greatly saddened today when we learned that while testing the rocket powered X-Wing fighter, a rocket powered bionic arm developed by the US military came out of nowhere and punched a hole through the engine compartment. Jek Porkins Jr., the pilot of the craft was quoted as last saying, 'NO, I'm all ri-- Aah!' as the plane plummeted to an unknown location."
You missed my point a bit.. and I certainly agree with you that canalzon was a great map. What I was getting at was that the gameplay was highly dependent on the community whether it be the map builder or the way the servers were run. That type of free-form gameplay is what allows different people to come together to play a single game.
How I miss the old 28.8 and the origins of online CTF based gaming. Team fortress was certainly the most advanced game of its time with a balance and gameplay that I'll never find again. TF2 is a great mod and a decade later shows the concept of team fortress can still provide a great game even in todays video game market. Take me back to the days when games had a great supporting community of map makers and server modders (best was team fortress regular on quake levels with grapple, sounds weird but was EXTREMELY fun). TF2 is very nostalgic for me but in comparison to a decade ago seems a tad stale but still very fun.
1) Download the album for free.
2) a. If the album is good you give $.
2) b. If you dislike the album don't pay for it.
2) c. If you only like certain tracks give $ for those tracks.
This way if you have high expectations for the album you won't be disappointed or likewise if you have low expectations you won't be disappointed either because you paid nothing. Those who file share it will either download it compulsively (which would happen regardless) or at least have a way to justify their activities.
If implemented correctly you should be able to justify how much the album is really worth.
It's true Sony isn't going anywhere this holiday season, but their exclusive titles are all coming out in 2008. If those titles fail, consider the ps3 done for. However for arguments sake lets say they get 4-5 games that are 9.0+ on IGN or Gamespot, Sony will be a huge contender for 2008. Anyone who bought a PS3 (like myself) for now is just a believer.
The holiday season will be pretty big again this year for the wii, even with what I believe is a lackluster library of games. Why? Because of the parents and the non-gamers it appeals to. The less violent games (let's leave resident evil out of this for discussion sake) make parents happier about their decisions and allows even 5 year olds to play the games. In addition the non-gamer appeal makes it a good gift for couples, and I can personally vouch that I am considering getting a wii just to play with my girlfriend. Lastly its september and you STILL can't get a wii easily, the madness will continue for another holiday season...
I would have to agree with you on this one, with heavenly sword and lair being a partial and total letdown. Uncharted is the only exclusive that will appeal to most people, but the controls and weapon issues have been up to some debate. Singstar looks good but like I previously said won't appeal to most. People who bought the PS3 need to look towards the future, and Sony needs a blockbuster hit by Q2 2008 or its sunk.
2008 will make or break the PS3

Wrong. Team fortress was first. You could easily say that Quake influenced Half-Life/Counterstrike as well at least technically speaking. Quake should be #1. See my argument below.
1) First fps you could play online
2) First fps that used mouse and keyboard (no more pgup pgdown keyboard looking)
3) First online squad based shooter (team fortress addon)
4) Quakespy anyone? (Where Gamespy came from)
5) GLQuake, one of the first fully 3d rendered fps
6) There are a lot more reasons associated with the design of a full 3d fps
FPS = Most popular game type ever
Quake = Most innovative FPS ever
Quake isn't on the list, therefore the list is an epic fail.
Logic ftw.
Best janitor breakroom ever?

Re-make MEGATF please!!!

Now I have an idea why their RPG's are such grindfests... These guys are HARDCORE!
They polled people ages 6 to 44... what a great and reliable survey. Why didn't you poll the 5 year olds?
479.99(XBox 360 Elite) + 179.99(HD-DVD) + $99.99(WiFi Adapter) + $49.99 (XBOX Live 12 Month Subscription)= $800 Thanks for the extra 20 dollars....
Let's just make a power glove for everything! Oh wait that had buttons too...
