I definitely agree with the other guy, Jordan was much, much bigger than Lebron James, at least as far as the US goes. If he was as big as MJ I'd at least know what team he plays for (and while I don't follow basketball anymore I do pay some attention to sports news in general).
That's a fine, legitimate argument. It becomes bullshit when you start suggesting that the options are "hidden in the advanced settings dialog" instead of just right there in the options menu. I'm just protesting the exaggeration.
All of these settings are hidden in the advanced settings dialog
Bullshit. The search provider option is right on the first options tab. The search suggestions option is at the very top on the last tab (there are only 3 tabs), under the big blue "Privacy" label. Don't damage your own case by exaggerating the facts.
You're wrong on a number of counts (and right on a few) but I'm only going to point out one because I'm lazy.
You could set your privacy settings very high but your friends will give you away. At least one of your friends will have settings that expose their list of friends, including you.
This is simply false. If you have it set correctly, the only time you show up on other people's profiles is when you post something there, and even then, you are just a black name that people can't even click on. Otherwise, you are not searchable, you don't show up on friends lists, etc; the only way for people to find you is for you to find them. There's not even a thumbnail picture, there's no way to prove that it's even you (as opposed to someone else with the same name).
Of course I wasn't hoping for a pro-censorship argument. I guess what I was hoping for was agreement that the guy should take it down on his own and not be a jerk. It never should've been up in the first place, whether the IOC should or shouldn't order him to take it down is beside the point.
Agreed, censorship argument aside, he's an ass for putting it up in the first place. Sounds like he's using an 'omg freedom of speech!' argument as an excuse for being a douche. And so far most of/. seems to be buying it... I was hoping for better here, honestly.
It is much easier to hand a friend your badge or ID card and have them log you in than it is to hand them your fingerprint and do the same. He's a student working in some office at his school, not at a big company that has security guards checking the picture on his ID or something. This is just a quick, easy and convenient (no more forgetting badges!) to make sure he's clocking in on time.
How are they going to violate his privacy with his fingerprints, other than saying 'oo we have your fingerprints now'? Are they going to use them to track his browsing habits? No. Record his phone conversations? No. Steal his identity? Doubtful. It'd even be pretty damn hard for them to falsely accuse him of something with just those, because as you said, his fingerprints on anything will be mixed in with a gazillion others. And as other posters have pointed out, if someone really came up with a good reason to steal his fingerprints, it wouldn't be too hard to do anyway.
I bet there was a handle on the door to their office too, wasn't there? Now your fingerprints are all over the door handle too! It's a conspiracy!
Seriously though, of course privacy is a huge issue these days, but worrying about your school stealing your fingerprints? You're a little extra special paranoid.
(demonstrably untrue in civil or other engineering firms where the company may be responsible but the individual is not)
Uh, what? Dead wrong for civil firms at least, I'm quite certain that a certified Professional Engineer that is found guilty of negligence can both get fined by his state's PE organization and/or lose his license (aka tens of thousands of dollars a year in salary) - here's a source for you. IANAL so I wouldn't know the details about being personally sued but I've heard many stories about it happening. From my understanding PE's are COMPLETELY responsible and liable for drawings they sign off on; that's why they get paid the big bucks.
He isn't claiming that it is fully scrambled in the 2s one - for the one immediately after he specifically says to get ready for a "full solve" and has big letters come up saying the NEXT CUBE is a "totally scrambled cube". The 2s was just a demonstration of the machine moving and is implied as such. You could maybe make a case about the 4 second one, but I'm not sure he's claiming that one to be a full scramble either.
Uh, what? You did your math wrong, that website shows that the US has higher per capita crimes in ALL of the categories you mentioned. The only thing the UK is higher in is 'total crimes'.
Eh, I wouldn't mind trying it out. At one point I did use Facebook a good bit to keep up with friends, but lately I haven't been using it much with all the ridiculously annoying apps and such. Those and the fact that all the old farts in my family won't leave me alone (let me off your lawn?); sorry to any of you folks having your aunt friending you is a little creepy to me. Maybe this will become popular with us college kids again and we'll get back our own space for a while.
As far as privacy goes, sorry, but meh. I know that anything I put online is public and I treat it as such. I don't have a lot of information on my Facebook, there are a lot of pictures that friends put up but I tend not to do anything *too* terribly stupid so you won't find pictures of me wasted or stoned or anything that would jeopardize a job opportunity. I know I should be concerned about teh ebil googles tracking my browsing/emailing/etc habits but I figure we're all screwed anyway so there's not really much point in worrying.

ounceo-newton and poundo-newton. Just to confuse the hell out of everyone when the usual flame wars erupt.

That would be the Emissary, not the Sultan.
Not only that, Chinese outnumber Google employees ~132,564 to 1.
The launch window is vague — sometime between April 2010 and March 2011. More details will be revealed at E3 in June.
If it's launched in April 2010 I would hope there would be *considerably* more details revealed well before June.
Wha? They taught me every one of those things, the only exceptions being oil change and tire rotation.

I, for one, say "neato!".
Wouldn't an Anti-Strange Hypernuclei just be a Normal Hypernuclei?

Just an added note - I'm not saying I disagree with the rest of your post, but I dislike the dismissive attitude in reference to civil PE's :)

Ostrich farming.
They emphasize the social features, competitive matchmaking system, and the ease of sharing mods and maps.
Great! Maybe someone will make a mod for playing LAN games.

I wish I had mod points for you. Well said!
