It sounds like talking will just provide a way to charge the phone... it's still going to need some sort of power source to be running when you're not talking into it. Isn't this more like an alternator for a car?

I'd like to see an actual study on this. I'm of the belief that the change is either barely noticeable or not noticeable at all to most people. I might guess that you're right, and people who have had HD for awhile will be better at recognizing the difference.

Study design would be simple: One group of people would see a series of videos, some in HD and some in SD, and they'd see if they could tell which one. Another group would watch HD for a month and then do the same thing. I'd like to see the accuracy... though I'd guess for most people it really isn't that noticeable or important.

Well your point in your post is that you didn't see a difference between mouse/keyboard and controller, not that PCs cost more. I was just replying to that point.

That said, if you're smart when you buy your main desktop PC (unless you're a laptop person) you can set it up so that you only have to spend an additional (*gasp*) $100 to add a mid-range video card to it. You're spending at least $600 on the thing anyways, you can turn it into a gaming machine for little more.

No matter how good you are at aiming in front of you, I'd like to see you do a 180 degree turn to check behind you quickly, then go back to where you were looking. Hell, even turning around is a pain in the ass. With a mouse, I just twitch my mouse to the right really quick and then back. With a controller, I have ONE speed that I can turn.

Sure, you can increase sensitivity to make this a little quicker, but you're still at a constant turn speed AND you make it even harder to make small aiming adjustments, so you lose accuracy.

    Keyboard + Mouse > Controller.

I'm failing to see how 2 extremely biased papers would provide any semblance of truth or useful information. In the end, won't that just be a contest of spin and ugly stretches of truth?

I'm pretty sure that people are pretty dumb when it comes to "deciding for themselves where the truth lies." Just look at all of those people who literally believed Obama was Muslim, or that old lady who didn't trust him because he was an "A-rab." Obviously this works on both sides of the fence too.

Of course media is always going to have a bias because it is written by people, and there ways that a story could be written as "less slanted" or "more fair." However, I'm pretty confident that our current news system is more than adequate, and the "it's biased because of X" is just an easy cop-out to hide from criticism.

Parent is right on the dot. My school recently spent about $100,000 bringing some rap groups (Three-Six Mafia and some other guy) for a free concert for our school. Of course, our tuition fees are still only going up... yet it's hard to see why some of this stuff is necessary.

Why do universities spend so much on P2P? Is it just to avoid the legal fees of the RIAA possibly going after them? Couldn't they just allocate a certain amount of bandwidth to each student (maybe like 512k or so) and let them do whatever they want with it?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and defend Blizzard with my UNDYING FAITH TO THEMMMMMM.

But seriously, the things that give Blizzards game longevity is the multiplayer, which, no matter what game you get, will be fully intact. They'd have to enforce some sort of weird map DRM to restrict maps to one "game", which I don't think Blizzard would do.

It's easy to say that they're squeezing as much money out of the game as possible, but what if the individual games are priced at a reasonable rate, like $30/game? That means you get a fully functioning multiplayer game with a decent single-player game. If you're really into the story, you can get the other ones, but I honestly think that even a single singleplayer experience is going to be worth the money.

I'll probably start with one, and if I'm not addicted to multiplayer yet I'll get the others.

I think religion should be taught, just not in Science classes. Creationism is not Science because it isn't something that can be tested.

However, "seperation of church and state" aside, would it be so bad to have a "World Religions" course in high school? Maybe one that covered the top 10 relgions in the world, talked about what they believe and explained their common practices. This wouldn't be a "teaching the Bible as fact" kind of thing, it would be the promotion of understanding of other cultures and beliefs. I have actually met people who actually believe that all Muslims are terrorists.

Of course, the tricky thing is how to cover all religions equally and without bias. A Christian teacher is probably a lot more likely to speak of other religions with disdain than with the kind of unbiased coverage that this kind of class would require.
