Ok, now explain to everyone else why the Lightsaber combat article is so worthy of inclusion on wikipedia. It's notable? Heck, more than half the article seems like an interpretation of the films by the author. The notability clause is so broad that it can be used to delete anything you don't like.

    Notability and non-trivia my ass:

It's not as simple as that.

The Linux kernel is absolutely useless without the GNU userland (GCC, glibc, bash, ls, man, mc, etc, etc). I'm ok with people calling it whatever they like, be it Linux, GNU/Linux, BarbieOS or whatever, but I call it GNU/Linux (it's my choice) so I don't feel like a hypocrite bashing the GNU project while using all of it's tools on a day to day basis.

The argument that it should be called MIT/X11/Apache/GNU/etc/Linux then is pointless and very childish ... the kernel itself is nothing without the GNU userland (and compiler, BTW). If you hate the GNU project that much, then you are more than welcome to port the BSD userland and create your own distribution.

So, how exactly does a patent collection defend against patent trolls?

If you are sued on patent violation claims, and you don't have your own patent collection, you are screwed. If you have a fat collection then you counter-sue, because the other party most likely is violating one of your patents; in the end you'll most likely end up cross licensing each other patents and move on.

I know, is stupid as hell, but it's the way it works right now. Thank the US of A for the idiocy of the patent system.

Of course, if the patent troll is nothing more than a bunch of lawyers with a stupid patent, then no patent portfolio will be big enough to countersue, since the troll is just that: a creativeless entity (with no business model besides suit filing) whose only purpose is to stiff innovation (think Eolas).

The system is so stupid and anti-innovative it stopped being funny long ago.

My brother has a problem with his inmune system that went unnoticed by doctors for a long time. He has been in and out of clinics his whole life. At one point he developen an infection in one knee that wouldn't stop with anything, even as he was being treated on the best clinic in town (the same he went to all his life). The knee problem only got worse and worse, even after being for over a month in the clinic.

Thank God my parents are biologists, and took the task to themselves to do research over this issue. When they found the first clues to what it was all doctors dismissed them, even being my dad highly regarded in his area of research. It was not after a long time had gone by that they had prepared a whole scientific case and presented it so strongly that the doctors said 'well, lets check if this could be the case'. It turned out my parents were right and for over two months the doctors were treatring my brother the wrong way.

I don't know, and don't want to imagine what had happened if the doctors had kept the same treatment for a few more months, as the infection was growing and, at the time the treatment was changed, it had taken over the whole leg. One month later my brother was out of the clinic.
