The only purpose of a hood is to keep stuff from getting in the engine bay and improve aerodynamics. If you think it adds structural integrity to the vehicle, I suggest you spend a little more time under the hood. Most hoods are attached at two points by weak hinges, real structural there. Not to mention, a common hood material is fiberglass which breaks up into shards fairly easy.

For the cost of that laser printer's replacement ink cartridge alone, I can get a quality color inkjet WITH a built-in scanner. While I might not need color prints(nice to have just in case), I'd make the case that a scanner is mandatory in any house.
How many of you use the problem solving skills that were developed in math class? I may not use math everyday, but I certainly solve complex problems that I'm sure others with less math education would struggle to solve.
I second this. Not all particle board is identical. Three bedroom sets, numerous shelves, kid furniture, etc... has all lasted at least 5+ years and a couple moves. And there's no indication that they wouldn't last another 10. The stuff I've bought at the local big box office supply store is FAR worse quality than IKEA. I had a shelf that sagged when I put anything heavier than empty DVD cases on it. Meanwhile, I've got heavy books on an IKEA shelf that have been there 10 years, and it's still "straight as a board".
