I have 40 remote sites each with many hundres of machines (some with over a thousand) and displaying that many hosts, it gets a bit pokey, even on the console, and scrolling is slow too. I also got a bad taste in my mouth when one of the domain files got messed up a bit (server updated the lease time and it messed something up) and if I clicked on it it would hang the app, I had to delete the file and recreate it. Then Sun patched everything and changed the file format and broke it for me. I switched to ISC's dhcp server. No front end for me though, just vi, but I don't have to edit the file ever now that it's set up. I really liked the sun app though, it got my machines up and running very quickly. I haven't used the newer versions (I stopped using it about 8 months ago) though, and not in Sol9.

    Before I set up the enforcement of the attachment size I had a teacher try to email an audio recording of her class to her supervisor. I'm not discounting a point but the facts remains. 1. Apple is a viable computing platform and 2. MS produces Office for the Mac. Both of these points tie into each other, but still stand on their own.
    The 3D industry is moving whole hog to Linux, and once Film-Gimp is fully acceptable, or Adobe ports Photoshop, it is all over. Renderfarms yes, replacing SGI's, maybe, but where are the tools that aren't custom built? Where is Maya, photoshop, etc.? As for Gimp, exactly NONE of the graphics artists I know, and non of the photographers use anything but photoshop and all of them rely on the color correction built into the Mac OS (colorsync) and non of these people would put up with XWindows and it's inconsistancies. True, I know a very small section of these types of people, but of the few that I know, they are not geeks. All of these tools are great (Gimp, etc.) but there is a lot more that goes into the process that just the creation/editing tool of choice. You've got to be kidding me... MS sold their stock forever ago, plus it was NON-VOTING stock! MS never had anything to say with apple, except what the normal largest apple ISV would have to say. Plus, the Mac Biz Unit is run as a seperate company for all intents and purposes. Apple has no stated direction on DRM, except perhaps putting the DRM on the user with stickers like "Don't steal music" on the iPod. The Mac is a digital media creation system (Look at Final Cut and the recent film/video and music/sound software company purchases) and it would be sad for Apple to hobble it with DRM.

    Apple adopts FreeBSD because
    * A) they cant compete w/ GNU/Linux, *BSD or MSWin
    * B) It makes a strong alternative to GNU/Linux
    * C) it supports Apple/MS hegemony.

    All of this is crap
    Apple picked BSD because it was in OpenSTEP/NeXTSTEP and that's what OS X is. There is no conspriacy here, well except for the Corel thing, that's fishy, but smart on the part of MS, but I think it will kill Corel in the end.

Filesystem snapshotting (Sun's Instant Image) would work fine if you can shutdown the database for a sec. I'm in the same pickle btw. Oracle Financials, Sun, tape backup, RMAN, etc. I'm going to end up doing just tape (single drive L20 DLT8K) we don't have a window nearly as small as yours though. I think I was the only one in the theater to bust out laughing, it had to be a joke/hommage. I wish they would have changed the ending. It had so much of a chance, but it's an american film, what can ya do. I was dissapointed in Jason Statham. He shouldn't have tried a different accent. He's great in Lock Stock and in Snatch, but in The One, sometimes he's got a texas accent, sometimes, it's back to brit, it was odd really. So, it's a fun fight flick, though yes, the plot is thin, but not any worse than every other fight flick out there, and at least it's not a the bad guy killed my best friend/wife/dog/whatever from the 80's. As for the comparisions to Jackie Chan's films, different thing all together really, IMHO. JC's stuff is ment to be funny, with action/kung-fu, etc. Movies like this are ment to be fun (not funny) action movies. And neither of them are ment to be world changing plot/dialog based films.
