miyamoto has commented on the length of the game before, basically saying they realize that many, perhaps most, gamers don't finish games. they wanted to give a better gaming experience to the majority of gamers out there, realizing some folks might find it too short, but the numbers they had showed that most folks would enjoy the length of the game.
i think it is like the lotr:tt game, where the game is kinda short if you play it through with a single character. however, it was designed as such that you can get a more full gaming experience by playing it through with each of the 3 characters available, giving it a fair amount of replay value.
i guess it is a matter of trying to please everyone or just a few...:)
hate to mention this, but the cube does have ports on the bottom of the unit fully capable of sporting a hard disk. it also has both a modem and lan port on the bottom as well, sold separately, just like the ps2. i suppose you could prolly rig a dvd or cdrom up to it too using the above mentioned port, but it would be a bit of a kludge as it would have to be a separate unit or on the bottom...
they are making it for the cube because nintendo and konami have been working closely together and they got the rights to have their second party, silicon knights, to make the game...
the saddest part about this is that the ports for the gcn are often of higher quality than those of the ps2 and xbox.
the other sad thing is that games are often written for the lowest common denominator of processing power, being the ps2. to clarify, many games use textures that are of lower quality and resolution and sometimes using fewer polys due to the slower speed of the ps2. when ports are done for the xbox and gcn, their look tends to suffer due to their power not being fully used with the smaller polys and lesser quality textures...
where you've gone too far, but i don't see too much harm right now in this in its current form, like how dole bananas are in sega's super monkey ball.
however, it seems to me that if it gets worse and worse, the savings in cost of game development should be passed down to the consumer. this artifical price of $50 for a new console game is kinda ridiculous...
btw, darkened skye isn't a great game per se but it is amusing nonetheless and has good voice acting.
umm... you mean nintendo hasn't had huge console libraries in the past several years. the nes, snes and if you want to look at the gameboy as a console, they all have very sizeable libraries...
the gamecube version is *greatly* recommended if you have a choice (if you've got multiple systems). not only due to the inclusion of link, but the graphics are a tad better than the xbox amazingly enough and much smoother than the ps2.
Or Combat 3D Robot Nocturne Ninja Guardian Sky Warlords of Vengeance XII: Throne of Magical Destiny [Melee Battle] Directors Cut SE? I've been waiting for that title for years!
what i'm really curious about, and i can't see any reason why it wouldn't work, is if i can get a gb player for my friend's broken cube. he was screwing around with it and now it gives out after a few minutes of use. as far as i can tell, the laser assembly is failing after a while. i'd like to just replace the assembly but i can't find any sites on the net that sell gcn parts (if anyone knows of any, lemme know). as the laser assembly is the most common part to fail, i don't really feel like taking my chances buying a broken cube on ebay for $50 only to discover it too has a dead laser. so hopefully there isn't anything else wrong with the gcn and the gb player will work for him...
this is a device made by a third party, not nintendo. nintendo doesn't usually go for such ineligant solutions to a nearly non-existant problem unless they are going to also sell you the phone component...
your situation is less a competition between game systems as it is a lesson in social psychology. younger brothers and sisters in a family are more likely to want to play with the toys their elder siblings have as they look up to them and want to be like them...
the gdrom's had their copy protection data stored in one spot on the very outer ring of the disc. disc's that got scratched on that outer track were then worthless, as that is where most of the wear on the data side of a disc tends to occur do to handling the discs and setting them down.
RIAA/MPAA Nightmare
add to that spa and idsa among others...
yeah, but doom3 is more of a technology, than a game...
;P
think about what i said before you flame me.
a couple of things...
:)

considering the ps1 sells far more units (followed closely by the wonderswan color) than xbox in japan, i'd say it is a reasonable question to ask...
yeah and history has shown that in the last 15 years nobody has been able to supplant nintendo in the handheld market.
not sega, wonderswan, neogeo, gamepark, handheld pc's and palms among many others...
hmmm... you almost sound like david becker from cnet with that fud... ;P

you get awefully upset over having choice in the marketplace...

There's a reason for that...
GM gave them 300 cars to use in the movie. All 300 of them were demolished during production...

well... you might like to know that they just announced that it will support up to 8 different cubes connected via lan... how's that for neato?
hey, it'd be really strange if you could get the mr. gupta's smellovision working with this thing... ;P
yeah and many folks fail to realize that their are plenty of new nintendo fans being made all the time as well...
he's retired as the ceo but still is the chairman of the board...
if memory serves correctly...

yeah, because we all know that flashy graphics and sound are what makes a great game... *yawn*
it's a shame that nintendo didn't retain the rights to perfect dark, conker and a few others...
