Who told you that? Many other countries are alot more liberal with music copyright, including the whole of the EU, Russia and China. People in those countries can work with unsigned artists without being bothered.

I run a radio station for unsigned artists. These rules don't apply to me because I have a private arrangement with the artists. The days of commercial music are coming to an end because it's too expensive and now the little guys will be getting more airtime. I think it's good for musicians, but not so good for money hunters.

I thought VISTA was the bet thing that could happen to Linux? Oh wait... Everyone just went back to XP. Microsofts problem was that they called it 'Windows XP' instead of' 'Windows 2001'. Having the year in there at boot time would make it alot more noticable that a person was using an outdated operating system.

I wrote a report about flight 587 when I was at university. The accident happened because the pilot apparently used the pedal/wheel combo wrongly. The pilot was trained for the previous model of the plane and neither the airline or airbus gave him training for the specific model he was flying. The pedal/wheel combo worked differently in the newer plane so they should have trained him. The investigators verict: Pilot Error. The problem is that the people investigating air disasters are people who are connected to the plane manufacturing industry. Nobody else has the technical knowledge needed to investigate. The pilot was made a scapegoat in the final report,

  7. Re:Nagoya crash on Computers Key To Air France Crash · · Score: 1

Don't believe what you read in the reports. Who investigates air disasters? People who are experts in the aviation manufacturing industry. Eg. ex Boeing/Airbus workers and also insiders from the airlines. Nobody else has the technical skills to investigate the accidents because nobody knows as much about aircraft as the manufacturers and airline. So quite often the pilot is made the scapegoat to save the reputation of an airline or manufacturer. There is a lost of money in the industry.

  8. Environmental Impact on Music Streaming to Overtake Downloads · · Score: 1

Tree huggers won't be a happy. Surely it takes more electricity to transport data around the world than it does to store it. Saying that, Spotify is one of the best programs ever released, simply because of the large catalogue of music and the way it's organised. I remember when the MP3 first took off people complained that it couldn't be streamed to the standard 33.6k modem. Alot of people preffered to stream using Real Audio because the file sizes were smaller. The sound quality sucked though. Personally, I'd prefer to be able to create playlists on the fly and that's why I think streaming is a good thing. In time people will be using their phones more for data purposes and for music, so it makes sense to have applications like spotify mobile so you dont get bored of the same music all the time.

Microsofts' problem is that they made XP so user friendly that it's very hard to convince people to change. That's why it's so hard to get people to adopt Vista or Linux. They don't want to learn new stuff just to do what they have always been able to do in XP. Regardless of what people on Slashdot think, XP is actually a pretty good OS and it works well for most people. Microsoft should focus on improving XP.

I had a fast boot time on Xandros. But the packages in the repositories weren't up to date and there were very few applications to install without breaking the system. Yes I enjoyed the fast boot times but what's the point of having fast boot times if your computer is completely useless. Installing Ubuntu was pretty easy and gave me access to some more up to date software but then then the Ubuntu repositories are barely up to date. The next netbook I get will be a windows one with a bigger hard disk so I can dual boot. I don't want to be limited by the OS I use.

China has millions of workers who are hard working and able to work cheaply so should be able to invent some pretty good stuff. The US will need drastic to make changes to stay ahead of the game. The stereotypical perception of the fat, lazy American is going to have to be made a thing of the past. Americans are going to have to work hard and cheaply to compete. They can't afford to keep with the status-quo. It'll be interesting to see what happens in the future with both countries.
