Instead of being ostracized for being so blatently anti-worker, the California Republican party actually nominated her for governor in 2010, along with Carly offshore Fiornia for Senator.

    Part of their platform is anti-intellectualism.

    Its pretty fucked up.

    The left wing goes after poor people's votes by promising them goodies we can no longer afford (if we ever really could.)

    So yeah, it's pretty fucked up, but it's a bi-partisan process.

    The right-wing goes after well-connected elite's votes by delivering them massive no-bid military contracts that we could never afford in the first place.

    This kind of corruption is quite common in American politics. For example, Senator Evan Bayh's wife Susan works for the health insurance companies. Quite naturally Evan insisted on a health care bill that was a total giveaway to the health insurance companies. Now that everyone hates his guts for pushing for such a crappy bill, he's taking his ball and going home.

    Build in a cost function for the cost to society. For example, when you are trying to find ways to grow the economy, you could have some function that is something like maximize a*GNP + b*jobs + c * median salary - d*greenhouse gases - e* external cost to society, and so on.
