May I suggest giving Thief and Thief 2 a whirl? Described as first person sneakers, they require you to listen well, move with stealth and plan your actions. By far my favourite "FPS" series.
Jon Johansen is an evil h4x0r that in one fell swoop allowed socialist Linux and *BSD hippies to watch DVDs on their computers. If there is any justice, he will be hung from a tall tree in the morning.
Tr33Hugg3r: Hey man, can you toss me over another bag of granola? The last one fell on that park ranger's truck. fukDaMan: sure, if you toss me another bag of soy nuts. veggieChix0r: I'm cold, I want to go home. 1l0v3Tr335 : damn, my batteries in my MP3 player died, no more Bruce Cockburn for me..
Misleading title..

"Smart Mobs"??
I was expecting a story about Tony Soprano getting his PhD in Molecular Biology or the like.
that was first in Canada to impose 5 Gbyte bitcaps on so called "unlimted" usage
My ISP called saying I was using more bandwidth than "the average user". I replied "an average is made up of highs and lows, correct? I'm just keeping the average up." The lady asked me to cool the downloads but I've never heard back from them.
am I the only one that's surprised that it didn't have this before?
Don't be suprised. OpenBSD's goals and claims to fame are stability, security and correctness. I donated a dual i386 mobo some time ago to them for the SMP project. I knew SMP on OpenBSD would be a long time coming, but also knew that when it came it would be well tested and solid.
If you want support for the latest whiz-bang crud to work on your desktop (at any cost) then install the Linux kernel du jour and whatever leet distro is hot this month.
Uh, who cares? It's not like they're invading YOUR privacy -- I mean, you're buying the product from THEM -- OBVIOUSLY, they know what you're taking off their feed
When I buy a newspaper I am entitled to read whatever I want, when I want and choose to skip the sports section.
Why should the cableco be allowed to know what I am watching, when I am watching and what I am skipping?
Rendering pretty pictures is oh-so-boring. I'd like to sit in front of a mic at a console, utter the command "Make it sew!" then watch a beowulf cluster of Singers make the whole crew wardrobe in 4 minutes, including the time needed for Troi's custom boob expansion panels.
If, as is suggested, other means of cracking these protected ebooks were used, will the authors of those programs be subject to arrest if they ever visit the US (assuming they are non-US residents)?

.. but will these new interfaces work with my flying car?
I almost didn't get to read this story on old technology, one of the tubes in my computer died.
I even prefer the cast of Voyager to that of TNG, except for Picard, Wesley and Worf.
Wesley? Surely your on crack.
Troi has boobs. Star Trek good. Nuff said.

I can just see the IM traffic..

I want a refund.

Oh, I guess the protocol in a case like this is to scream " FIRST POST "
Anyone that has seen Star Trek:TNG knows that Data is a pretty smart fella.
Print out all your data in hexadecimal and store it in a large vault. If and when a data loss occurs you just need to re-type all the data back in.
yes I'm being facetious
Was the goatse.cx guy the (sphincter) ring bearer?
The goatse.cx guy's name is "Kathleen"?
Enron could have used this concept to balance their books.

.. but "unbiased" and "slashdot" would be an oxymoron if used together.

Poor Data running fiber through poo-encrusted tunnels.. Lets just open Nemesis does well at the box office so they can retire him with dignity.
.. the big concern now isn't backhoes ripping up cables, it's too much bran cereal in one's diet doing the damage.

Notice how he never mentioned that everyone will have a flying car by the year 2000? Puts the 50's science writers to shame..
Nope, they weren't profiting off the distribution of the crack
Isn't it illegal to remove protection and distribute the unprotected product for free?
If what you're suggesting were true then it would only be illegal to distribute cracked or unlicensed software if it were done for profit..
If, as is suggested, other means of cracking these protected ebooks were used, will the authors of those programs be subject to arrest if they ever visit the US (assuming they are non-US residents)?
Be afraid, be very afraid..
