    I was thinking of the author taking steps such as using different key words for different recipients.

    This is a tried and true way of pinpointing the leak.

    Rather than just rant about it on slashdot where a small percentage of people will see it, I'd recommend people send the link to their grandparents on AOL, non-tech friends, et al.
    Companies don't make such decisions without forcasting the outcome. Throw a wrench in Qwest's gears and spread the word to the masses. Maybe the beancounter that figured this would be a relatively painless sell-out will be on the unemployment line in 2 months... :)

    Now, it's like saying, "let's go buy a 16 MHz proc... cause we can."
    No, it's like saying "Let's use a CPU that will run on minimal power yet provide the processing power needed to control the aircraft."
    Seriously, running a Pentium with the necessary chipset support, etc etc would need two pilots: one for the plane, one to power the computer.

    d) ENABLE SFTP if you need an FTPish connection.

    Interesting idea, and I applaud the developers, but I really think it's not going to make any new Linux users.

    Little Billy gets a new WinXP machine for xmas all ready to run *every* new Windows game with potentially less headaches than keeping a Linux box upgraded with the kernel du jour and the patch of the week.

    Like it or not, Windows Update is much easier to use for the Unwashed Masses than is cvs (now my FreeBSD||OpenBSD bias is showing :))

    And if you're a regular slashdot reader then you're well aware of the shortage of electricity in the US, that's probably their main reason for objecting to the Kyoto protocol.

    There is a good story on CBS about power companies in California holding back power to raise prices.

    Macrovision has had copy protection that inserts noise and monkeys with your picture on DVDs and videotapes for many years now. I've used a product called the Sima SCC[0] that removed this annoying feature.

    If all the protection does is add noise to music files, then I'd imagine it likely that there's a mathematical method to remove the noise, or barring that just using a filter like the ones that remove LP noise from copied vinyl records.

    Thats not possible. Look how much thicker a coax cable is than a phone line. The bandwidth is tons higher.

    That has to be the dumbest statement I've read on /. in a good while. By your scale, I could run 14 gauge lamp cord and get even better bandwidth because it's "much thicker"

    If bullshit was gold, Slashdot would be Fort Knox..
