Ballmer said they're working at stuffing Win7 into a slate. Apple has OSX and iOS. They could have put OSX into a tablet but opted for the touch-based-from-the-ground-up iOS. Smart decision, imho.
MS is so narrow-minded they can't imagine not putting a rehash of Windows on a tablet. It's that retarded "Windows Everywhere" mentality that started in the 90's.
Now we just need a Sun spokesperson to have a press conference and show that old-school blocking I/O with modern threading libraries affects all languages, not just Java.
I don't think money is much of an issue for the target market. 12 core machines are aimed at the professional market who will use these devices to make money through rendering and other things lots-o-cores excel at.
That's why they're using Xeons, I think these one are around $900-$1K per.
I think this thread should have people including their education, age and salaries along with their comments. I'll be the data correlates to the article. Such hate...
Though, I have been considering an iPad for my technophobic grandfather-in-law, who "has no patience for" Microsoft Windows, OS X, or Ubuntu.
My dad is a techo-illiterate. A few months ago he came back from a trip to the US with an iPad (!!!) He was doing all sorts of whatever he does on it. I was quite blown away, here's a guy who never used or owned a computer suddenly buying this at age 75.
I was impressed enough with it that when they became available here (.ca) I picked one up. And I don't really have a butler...
I was showing this story to Charles, my butler, on my iPad. As he was handing me a snifter of brandy in the reading room he assures me I'm no "selfish elite" or a "snob".
Thanks for the reply. I likes the idea of an open source mobile OS (having had free *nixes on my desktops since the 90's) which is why I had questions about "rooting" Android.
I realize Android is just the OS, should have been more clear;)
Serious question firm an iPhone owner... I've always thought that the appeal of Android was that it was wide open. That had me considering picking up one in the future. If I have to perform what sounds like a jailbreak why should I not stick with my current (and possibly future) jail broken iPhones?
I must be missing something, please fill in the blanks.
What's the point? It would be so much easier to just use android and set Baidu as the search engine (since I'm sure that's the motivation behind this).
Nah. Imagine a repressive government having control of the OS in your phone. Could you trust that your phone isn't reporting its location behind your back? (iPhone does but that is anonymous and can be disabled)
There are so many nefarious things that could be done my tinfoil had needs another layer.
Awesome. The youtubers getting their panties in a knot have to lighten up. Based on some if their comments, you'd think the world was coming to an end.
Nope, we've tested as best we could. Ping and traceroutes to our VPN box failed within China somewhere, other machines here worked fine, even one that was one IP 'up'.
We spent a considerable amount of time trying to find the problem the first time it happened as it was our Director General (read: 'god') having the problem and he was calling me from there about it.
At my workplace we have people who travel to China. On occasion VPN
connections from China just stop for hours or days at at time. No hits at
our VPN endpoint from China at all; the traffic is stopped upstream
somewhere while everything else that is unencrypted works.
That's the only country we have people visit where the
VPN can be problematic.
Not really.

Bingo. If you look at that article it says that very thing.
How do you say "This cave is dark and musty, just like Mom's basement!" in Klingon?

Hahaha, I love the Mac and laughed when I read that, lighten up mods.

It's a space stationlet.

Wowzers...
In days of yore, we'd be subjected to a GNAA troll with a goatse link and would laugh at ourselves for being fooled.
Now people get upset about the silliest jokes/trolls.

My fiancé's ICrap4 drops calls all day long while at home
Well your imaginary fiancé with the imaginary iPhone 4 is in real luck; she can return it no questions asked to Apple.
You're dialing it wrong.
Can anyone say were getting close to what Geordi La Forge had in the last Star Trek: Next Generation movie??
I hope not, I'd look terrible with an afro.
Does each set come with cool "DOO Doo doo doo doooooo..." sound effects and a Lindsay Wagner blow up doll?
Likely the one's crawling up into your urethra or anus.
We've been camping for a week and my greased Yoda doll is still there.
Is this before or after the nuclear dump sends the Moon out of Earth orbit? If after, dibs on Helena!

every american businessman inevitably refers to business process in terms of war.
IIRC some business schools used to have, or may still have, The Art of War as required reading.

Besides, the Chinese and Asian in general are quite relaxed people.
It isn't the general population causing the VPN problems we have with people travelling in China, it's the government.
