Don't know how serious you're being but...
The analog signals are being phased out next year so it won't be a problem since they won't even be being broadcast/
I'm not so sure this is a bad thing or an afront to our freedoms. I know this is slashdot blasphemy but hear me out.
When the modern phone systems were first being built part of getting the liscensing from the US government was that it would be technologically possible to tap into those lines if the appropriote warrants were filed. Same thing now with the Voip services and there hasn't been much of an uproar over that. This as, as far as I see it, pretty much the same thing.
Now, I'm not saying that the government is perfect or that this won't be abused (it almost definatly will be). If TFA had been about thousands of servers under NSA headquarters that monitor every byte of encrypted traffic that would be one thing. But it is on almost the exact same level as wiretapping technology which has existed for decades.
I love that this is modded insightful while it seems pretty obvious to me that the poster was going for funny. Apparently the average slashdotter needs more security while looking at pr0n than the government needs while taking care of prisoners of war. (note: I actually feel that that IS true but it's still funny)
Let's not get into a discussion that the clone might not have a soul
Do identical twins share a single soul? Nature has been cloning people for as long as there have been people. As long as we maintain that the clones are human beings there really isn't any ethical dilema here.
On a side note, the studies you suggest about nature vs nurture have already been done with identical twins seperated at birth and we STILL can't decide which is more important (most likely because both are extremely important).
The only problem with our system is that it doesn't prevent vote buying, because someone could watch you fill out your ballot, seal it, sign the envelope, and drop it in the mail, then pay you for voting the way they wanted.
Actually, that would be a pretty bad purchase since the voter could just call in and say they never recieved thier envelope and get a new one of a different color. The new one would count and the bought one wouldn't.
No, just... No. Seriously, you can take the whole pirate philosophy only so far. What he stole wasn't so much the a-bomb as it was America's weapons superiority. So by that measure, yes America did lose out on something.
I agree, especially since their rationale is ussually that gambling "tears families apart", "Ruins lives", and "Oh God, won't somebody please think of the children!?".
Well, a two year prison sentence tends to tear families apart just as well I would imagine.
I disagree. What you're saying is that the prices are the only thing holding back both hd formats. Price is not the only thing, or even the primary thing, holding back these formats.
1. The majority of people don't own an hd tv yet, until they do there is no reason for them to by an hd player.
2. The majority of people are barely aware that there is a format war going on outside of tech circles.
3. People have no reason to "buy now". Even if there was a temporary sale of $30 players, people have finally grown accustomed to electronics pricing. They know that if it's $30 today it will probably be $20 tomorrow, and if they don't need it today it may as well wait.
Whaaaa? I have played several hundreds of hours of games on my ps2 (over 100 on ffx alone) and never once gotten a corrupted save. Sounds like you got a bum card/card reader.
I agree, I've always kind of wondered how long the 360 would be around. With the core system not having a HDD and with no HD drive I honestly figured it would be Christmas '09 for the next generation Xbox. It was actually a major reason I went with the ps3 instead. If the ps2 is ANY indication, there will be great games coming out on the ps3 until well into 2013.
True enough, but you can't be legally required to do something and the just say "No, I don't wanna". In this case I see them saying something more along the lines of "No, I don't wanna and here's why you can't make me".
If by having it on sale you mean having 10 - 15 of them for that price then yes, that will probably happen. It's still the regular price that matters, these amazing deals serve one purpose and one purpose only, to get people reading the flyer into the store. It's a classic bait and switch as far as I'm concerned.
Agreed, the place that I work is always looking for new engineers, especially software/computer. My department alone has 40 open positions, about half of which are considered "entry level"
We're all happy to see someone in congress finally being reasonable on this subject but that's not good enough. Send some emails to the congressman telling him how happy it makes you, especially if you live in the state. If you don't live in the state, send one anyway and CC it to your congressman. Let them know that this issue is important to thier constituints.
As much as I want to agree with you I just can't. Radiohead had a huge following long before they tried this and that following was generated, at least in part, by the record companies marketing and pr.
I imagine it would be pretty hard (if not borderline impossible) for a new band, no matter how good, to do this kind of thing and turn a profit this easily.
Yes, you bought an expensive TV and you want to use it to its full potential, I understand that. But you can't.
Except, yeah he can. He just can't on the Wii. I tend to agree with you that gameplay is more important the graphics though(I still bust out Earthbound every now and then and that game had below average graphics even when it was released). Still, there comes a point where I think that a certain level of graphics capability is understandably expected.
Now, whether or not the Wii falls below that level is up to opinion. Personally, I would like my next generation gaming system to take advantage of my next generation tv.
I think one of the earlier commenters pointed out that the wii doesn't have a single game in Japan's top ten at the moment.
I guess it's always possible that going after the "casual gamer" backfired, they are not the ones who are going to go out and buy a new game very often

Comon, if anything deserved this tag its this.

Ah, screw the whole thing.

What if we cloned Henry IV JR? Henry IV... The Third?

Yeah, but on the other hand, sitting on a patent for years and years while you know its being violated by numerous other companies IS patent trolling.
Step 1: Make fake profile of my enemy
Step 2: Sign profile up to advertize bladder control products
Step 3: ???
Step 4: Profit!!

Because it's in horribly bad taste.
