What's worse? Making 50K a year and getting to keep it all, or making 10 million bucks as an artist and then having the *AA and the record companies pocket 9.5 million of it?
Well, since $10m-$0.5m = $500000, I think I'd prefer the latter.
We tried asking the ISP to pay a 5 Euro levy per kilobyte to cover the costs of its users downloading copyrighted content. As you already know, the ISP refused, so we must resort to the proffitable$wnasty business of suing to get our way.
For one thing, people usually don't like admitting they're wrong. If they believe in something that is proven to be false, they will lash out in a desperate attempt to defend and maintain their beliefs.
No. I have read it here and here, but I'm not certain whether Vista actually does this or if it's just a massive fud campaign. From what I've read, it seems to be true. But as I said, I'm not 100% sure.
I'm not 100% certain, but I believe Vista is constantly checking both itself and the hardware to ensure that no DRM bypassing mechanisms are being used. If so, this probably would downgrade performance.
Although experts may disagree, and there is the occasional fraud or corperate shill in the science community, at least they are more likely to use the scientific method and choose facts over opinions.
Imho, while user-generated content may, in some cases, be more accurate or up-to-date, it is all to easy to encounter this situation.

MS doesn't want people giving SP1 bad reviews before it is released to the general public. That would damage Vista's reputation even more, and Microsoft most certainly doesn't want that.
It's not even been a week since The smartphone was patented , and now we've got people wanting to sue for criticising patent trolls. I thought America was the "land of the free". Oh wait, it is, if you've got millions of dollars in your pocket and a lot of lawyers.
What's saddening is that this stuff never makes it to the mainstream media.
Rios: This is one of the more surprising aspects of the research we (Nitesh and I) conducted. I had always thought that most phishers were clever hackers evading authorities using the latest evasion techniques and tools. The reality of the matter
is most of the phishers we tracked were sloppy and unsophisticated. The tools they used were rarely created by the phisher deploying the actual scam, and for the most part it seemed the phisher merely downloaded kits and tools from some place
and reused over and over and over again.
The situation's the same with botnets, spamming, and malware. Why should things be different? Taking a peak at some phishing sites, there are obviously a great deal of similarities between them. I don't know why this is a revolution to these guys.
P.s.: Damn, there's a lot of advertising on that site.
Will people at large see neutralizing RFID tags in items you own as a common, sensible, precaution, like shredding important documents, or will that be seen as the sort of thing that only hackers, criminals, and other shady
characters would do?
Well, knowing the government, I'd say they'll be paid to start up their propaganda machines and convince people that consumers who remove RFID chips are terrorists wishing to hide from the law. A fine and jail sentence will also be handed down to those who are discovered with RFID-less devices.
Of course, I could just be paranoid. You be the judge.
A $499 iPod touch with phone capabilities and locked into America's most evil telco isn't selling! I am well and truly shocked! I never suspected this would happen!
I am sure the fact that records wear out with repeated plays also contributed to their excitement over this trend.
If the player has digital output, you could copy the recording to a lossless format. Yeah, you could only copy in realtime, but the recording would last forever.

Actually, this guy is the TV narrator, and this guy was sued by Microsoft.

Mod parent up! Very good article. Thank you.

OK, I'll bite.

Agreed! I'm blind myself, and this guy should be punished to the maximum extend under law.
Being blind is no excuse for being a criminal.
The RIAA does not exist to serve the artists. It's mission now is to suck all the money it can out of a dying business model.

And here I was hoping it was a Vulcan ship!
I wouldn't be so sure.
Not to mention a guy being arrested for running a Tor server. And who can forget this. Oh, and there's this
This, along with The Pirate Bay receiving a 4000-page complaint seems to indicate a disturbing trend towards the *AA-style of dealing with file sharing.
