The article was light on details.. why did they decide that fees that are clearly stated in a contract before people entered the contract are now illegal?
I hate cell companies as much as anybody, but that's how they subsidise those cheap phone prices.
Same- I write the blog http://hackingym.blogspot.com/ and I've been following this transition closely. Rhapsody's service is far superior, including a much larger library, and more "radio" stations (channels). It's worth every penny. (Especially with the Squeezebox Duet that/. convinced me to buy)
I cannot independently verify the motives or reasons my phone battery operates the way it does, not can I verify any motives for manufacturers or phone companies to mess with my signal bars.
Make sure you read the article- I'm not arguing that these effects don't exist. I'm aruging that he's crying conspiracy, and doesn't have much more than anecdotal evidence. That needs a citation- somebody of authority within a cell or battery company who can confirm their motive. Anything else is speculation.
But that's just it- the article is very suggestive of conspiracy. Maybe the gauges are aproximations- I don't think that was ever up for debate. But your personal experience doesn't change the need for citations in this article- which I suggest you read.
The article doesn't mention this- but Yahoo is migrating their users to Rhapsody. This includes their library. You will still have access to your songs, just through a different service. Not sure what will happen to purchased tracks- but I suspect they'll allow you to re-download through rhapsody.
Certainly not fixing the DRM issue, but, still an important detail.
Good point- I guess it wouldn't work if two face wasn't dead.
Ras al Ghul can't be dead- it wouldn't make sense for them to kill the only character who has been alive for so many thousands of years- and potentially will be for more...
Indeed- Harvey always struggled between his good side and his bad side. His nature was good, he wanted the good guys to win. His bad side was just willing to do what it took to accomplish his goals, something he had always considered, but never acted on until now- now that he has this vice, a scapegoat, even.
Interestingly, this dynamic that exists in Harvey in TDK, as well as in the comics, gives Two-Face much more depth than the one-dimensional characters in the original movies (Batman-Forever). So the real question is- did they seriously do all that build up for him to just die at the end?
My theory is that the next villain will be a combination of some new villain such as the riddler or the penguin, and a little more two face mixed in, as batman tries to convince harvey not to lose his good side and to do the right thing.
This, of course, requires harvey not to be dead. So maybe he's just sleeping?
If you scroll all the way to the bottom of those expert exchange results, the answers are always there.. but I agree, they're still annoying. Loading their site in a background tab- some javascript thing causes it to jump to focus on every load. It gets old quick.
Let's vote to get rid of expert exchange from all search listings.
I've been debating starting an open-lobbying site for a while now. In fact, I've suggested it to a few people on/. but it hasn't gotten anywhere yet.
Let me know if you become interested in something like this. I resell hosting, so I can get you free linux hosting. I also do web design and development, so I can contribute greatly to the cause.
And what are the chances I'm watching a friend play a pirated copy? Pretty high, but that's still marketing. I may decide I want the game and go get it. But not if it doesn't even work properly...
Well, at least legally, it's not a good idea right now. That doesn't touch the basis of the rules, but at least it gives me a foundation that will keep me out of jail..?
I'm sure you can see that I was arguing a point that I personally didn't agree with. It was just a bit of insight on my own thought process. I don't believe there exists an inherent truth, or that my opinion (or my parents) should be taken as one.
I'm merely commenting on the state of society, their thought process, and my struggle with my own though process given to me by society.
I've struggled with similar problems- even a few times stumbling upon accidental cp, and suddenly I get an uneasy feeling that:
1. I'm afraid nothing will remain sacred. If increasingly shocking things become normal, I will become desensitized. Am I basing my sense of morality on my ability to become shocked or disturbed? Possibly...
2. The party van will get me. I'm not trying to view CP, but it pops up (if you're talking about the same certain site I am, and I think you are). I quickly report those images and stop viewing for a while. I'm pretty sure I'm safe. But these things happen and I'm less likely to go back each time.
3. I make it a point not to dwell on things that should bother me, so as not to become tolerant, but again, I'm not sure why. The fact that people in general get offended by arbitrary things is surprising. I think people take everything too seriously. But maybe i'm just numb myself.
I tend to get in to philosophical debates with myself, and it never ends well, because in the end there needs to be a meaning, and utilizing logic and reason leaves you with very little with that.
That seems like a stupid idea. It's very unlikely I'd steal a game, find it broken, and then go out and buy it after that.
I understand, I shouldn't steal in the first place- but I'd just assume it was horribly coded and that brings my likelyhood of purchase even lower.
*Disclaimer: I personally purchase all games I play- However, I do steal no-cd cracks so I don't have to bother, and I also steal serials some times to play a lan game of command and conquer.. I'm not purchasing two copies to play a few games against a friend in my own house. I'd say the only game that got that right was Sins of a Solar Empire (which I didn't even like), but there was no copy protection, and they even allowed multiple installs. It is a multiplayer game by design, and they accepted that. I didn't like the game too much, but am still happy I gave them my money.
FYI, nobody wants to click "tinyurl" links. It's not actually helpful to anybody and potentially puts the future of the internet in tinyurl's hands. For the future, and for the sake of the anti-goatse community, don't use tinyurl. Thanks.
Assuming you need to validate online EVERY time you play- this eliminates playing : in an airplane, on a road trip, when the internet's down, in class (some class rooms have wifi blocked), and at my parents house when visiting for the weekend.
I have a better idea, if I must have this game, I'll just crack it. But then why go through all that trouble to "fix" a game I purchased and put the security of my system at risk by running an unknown program?? Might as well steal the whole thing.
In the state that I live (NH), obscene is defined by anything that most likely would cause "affront or alarm." This, of course, leaves a lot for interpretation. My new hair cut could be considered obscene.
The question is simple: why are natural things like nudity, sex, and sexual intercourse considered obscene to begin with? Is it neccessary for society to function? Is it important to have a line drawn somewhere, for fear that if the line gets pushed, even more extreme things may become the norm? (Killing babies, public self mutiliation, goatse)?
I, of course, don't support public obscenities and indecencies- it's just plainly wrong to do some things in public. But then I try to think why it is, and can't seem to find a good answer. Is it because that's how I was brought up, and that's how I learned it should be?
There are a lot of things that I learned as I grew up that don't actually make sense. Is it possible that some things are just the way we've always done it, and that's why it shouldn't change? My parents spoon fed me loads of crap, how am I supposed to seperate the truth (shouldn't run around naked in public) from all the lies (go to church or you'll go to hell)?
As an interesting side note, if he really wants to make a point, he should add a new term to the trends- Google Trends. (Additionally, he shouldn't have public news like this- people will skew the trends when they find out about it.
Hey, I'm just saying, the world thinks myspace is ugly- Would he have enough insight to admit it's uglier than facebook (even though the margin is shrinking?)
I'm not full of myself, I understand it's got a lot of money involved. But the only way to grow is to be honest about your own shortcomings. That's insight.
... Tasha Yar.
Did anybody else cheer when that happened?
Huh, funny. But he was a terrorist, right?

Very good! No problem at all! You shall be added to my friends list.

The article was indeed interesting, and believable. But it has a bad case of [Citation-Needed].
Clearly more, as today's paradigms are worth more around 16.04 cents (US).

I was wondering that too.. seems everybody here finds it popular to jump ship at the first sign of bad weather.
