Clearly you won't see much of a difference on your electricity bill if you use a more efficient light bulb, a more efficient fridge, tv or whatever else. Now imagine all theses "not much a difference" cumulated on your neighborhood, area, town, region, country and you'll understand why those makes really a sense.
People wouldn't buy a "more efficient" product because there wouldn't be really many more "efficient products" but rather a larger lobby (GE, and other major electronic manufacturer) to build more "clean energy sources".
And don't forget that the biggest electricity users are the companies taxing them for over usage could be quite critical as some are rather hungry (you know big machineries and so on...)
Not that I never used a "long term evaluation copy" before BUT the usage of virtualmachines (no sound, no networking, no nada) was the best way to launch said keygenerators to generate what was needed.
No need to worry about your system being now part of a botnet as you are going to delete the whole image just after that (or keep it deeply infected if you have a large turnover...)
But as many many said the best solution is to buy the software.
All considerations aside there always had been picture manipulations to stick to a specific trend - I do remember a picture of my mother during her twenties who had been mocked up to look like as a "Hollywood star" -that was the trend at that moment (around the 50's).
Anyhow apart the fact that the picture here had been doctored to look better the whole setup despicts a massive bad taste, yes she's a general, yes we suspect that she's patriotic but putting a huge american flag behind her...and this way.
It somehow reminds me the naive imagery used by -oh irony- by the islamists or those who make money using islamic images styles (you know those tshirts, posters and flags aren't freebies).
Moreover the perspective is very wrong, the whole image is very wrong looking.
That's exactly what I had in mind reading and then looking at those interfaces.
They may look as being cool but what we see at the long haul is a technology completely dissociated from the inner working of the human body who "optimized" himself for accomplishing tasks using the less energy possible.
Moreover on the videos I saw from this kind of technology you have to accomplish disproportionated movements to grab, move an release a file. This may look fun in a 10 minutes session but now wonder if you could do that for well 5 hours a day ? This wouldn't be "IT" working or some data analysis but a complete workout.
And as a last pointer I wonder if what makes this technology so appealing aren't the massive screens in fact.
I already kicked off Windows from the home computer for many reasons...I don't really care about windows 7, 7 new era, 7007 or whatever any other flavor it may come bundled with.
I suspect that it's a new way to sell us the kind of humidifier/sensitizers that you just plug.
On another hand that robotic flower who interacts and dance with people would just fit perfectly fine with my cluster of singing basses who are pinned on the wall "taake me to the river"...
I was totally agreeing with until I saw my young niece watch some children serie through youtube without even bothering to put it full screen...not that she's technologically impaired but it's only that she was instant messaging around, browsing and "studying" in the meantime.
Nice avatars to gather along -yeeah-...well I suppose that IRC wasn't enough graphical (or maybe too metaphorical in his representation for most people) and that you couldn't conclude serious business within all those Multi players games/sarcasm.
The problem is that they are wholly boring. the best of the world would be to include a "second world" into an already existing -and even moderately successful multi player game-. Imagine a "low paying" WoW/Eve/Warhammer account where your user would be forced to stay within cities (you could travel using existing methods or players) - some basic skills learning and basically their paying accounts gives'em some gold every month so they can shop for clothes and various other stuff".
That would ensure a lot of people "who would buy" stuff from the players creating a more vivid economy "hey looks there are the peons in the cities". They could get some funny things like plague, rest in buildings "with their names into them" and so on.
you could upgrade on those accounts to go kill things out there or well downgrade a full time killer to being a city dude with maybe some gears being put in a repository so you don't encounter a neighbor who wears a flaming armor with killer ghosts trapped into it".
Well who knows... the hype with apple products is the reason why so many people like it. Usually it's not the "best" technology who gets approval but the one who is used by most people see Windows, we all know that it's relatively crappy but so many people use it that finally it doesn't count that much.
But clearly android phones are going to be a refreshing new option for the horrible windows mobile platform or the jail'ed Iphone.
200 available hours and 90% of their entries are a bunch of calculators ?
And they probably used the "+,-,%,..." available operands
And yeah we bash M$ because they usually promote BAD computer science/engineering. Good if you want to keep your job (your windows stuff is always going to be buggy but the management like it"
The original article just link on some evoluted blogspam, no link to original editor website, to some image to...well sorry if I have to google around all the details I'm going to read the news elsewhere else.
well I "am going to steal that video/movie/song" you didn't asked me if I would but just in case you enforce that much restrictions on it that I couldn't ever stea..watch it. you know what...your content doesn't really interest me. Your music is at best funny to listen two or three times (but from that moment it would have been broadcasted on many radios), movies finally are broadcasted on TV (yeah you have to wait a little bit but sincerely most of the movies aren't worth your time) and videos well many tv stations features "night long video clips" so bah you finally figure out that you could still watch a few of them.
I think that I see where you are coming : "stay tuned for "Spider Monkey 4" -the absolutests bestest film ever made-but you'ain't going to see it because it's secured against the thief-"
The real problem would be for a fan who willingly wants to buy every material made on his beloved artist (or commercial product) who would be obligated to consume this stuff now like most of the people out there don't give a rat ass of that the world is saved.
I suspect that this 1 GB package contains hi-def television, phone calls and internet...who btw won't reach that speed and if you could well I don't know what could write datas that fast (hint apart if you use some huge RAM buffer or array of network disks)
As a windows mobile user for professional reasons I do have to say that for work purposes and general Outlook integration the phone got good capacities. Now for the rest...I mean yes the word "terrible" to describe that OS is not making him enough honours...
The whole problems with Windows Mobile is not only with the OS himself, I had several Palms who where working perfectly even under "heavy" usage. A Windows Mobile smart-phone-pda-assistant (whatever) has to be reseted quite often just to make it work as before, but with their "active-sync" software too who is just magical black box of "it works it works it doesn't works it works it doesn't works" (you see the idea).
Now looking a Windows mobile based phone (I've seen many) they had always been SLOW yeah the whole experience is slow - or going at the very same speed since I do remember having looked at theses- slow when mobile CPU's evolved, more RAM was packed inside ? Now comparing that with a I-phone damn the whole stuff is sexy of speed, interface design and the hand gesture...doing it once got you addicted to such a simple idea.
Linux inside a mobile phone...indeed this gets me interested but let's be realistic phones are not only phones they are your best friends operators and they don't want to have something so open as a free os. Google android...yes why not ok Google is evil but if you want android it's because you plan to use google calendars, mail, map services, dating services, mating services, monkey services so Google being evil you don't really care anymore.
ok nice I suspect that "web 2.0" or "web 3.0" or "web 1.5" had already been unm copyrighted. So let's go for "things"...this sounds exactly like the result of a brain-thing-storming session made by execs who are, by far, not in touch with any of those "things".
Looking for the best parts is not something futile, some may tell you "hey just go to Monkey-puters.com they sell everything packed you won't have any problem with winwisbutu 12.x" but it's not the case here.
The reality is that you are going to pay more for a low end system than if you buy OEM, but I suspect that you really don't care about that difference. You first have to check out thoroughly the different components, I myself have a system that is running since...well it's a PIV still running an AGP video card (was a good NVIDIA card so it's still useful for some casual gaming).
So check out the components, it's more important to put more in the Motherboard, less in the video card as you are going to change it in a one year time, so don't buy high end. CPU's are important too, check out the announces from the vendors (Intel, Amd) as usually new lines of processors send the prices down on existing CPU's.
and well otherwise I don't know about online vendors because I always went in a shop...when you custom build you always run into the risk of having components who are instable when packed together. It's a marginal risk nowadays but still...and it's easier to just get back in that small'ish shop (semi-pro shops in warehouses are best as they usually have the lowest prices and the highest geek ratio running them for the sake of spreading good systems out there) to get an exchange is easier than with online vendors who have that 30 days return policies/no scratch/...
What I wait as a Sysadmin (formated)
on
Chrome Vs. IE 8
·
· Score: 1
Ok nice chrome is out, wait one month so that it keeps all his promises. Looking at the specs the strict process isolation used to keep chrome to do bad things outside of his memory pool looks nice and promising. Now just everything else apart (I'm not a big fan of the preview of the websites you like the most...but the idea is interesting indeed) I am just only waiting for some devs puting some easy way to administrate their software through active directories policies (giving out MSI's instead of executable for example) or some mockup.
When you administer a large organization (large starts when you have three floor of people and a bunch of other one abroad) you don't have really a lot of time to say "hey let's use Firefox/Opera/Whateverelse" instead of IE "because IE is buggy and prone to create a lot of problems. Yeah it's true but I can control IE bookmark from policies, his behavior, the user agent, the authorized controls, and so on...this teamed with an enlightened;) usage of local people rights/applications to control spywares and so (yeah still useful) AND proxying/viruschecking the trafic you have something that could be thought as a somewhat secure setup (somewhat is the magic word here).
So doing that with Firefox...well I tried for a while Firefox with a few users. A few problems raised like the updater who went wrong on a few system (I suspect that user right was in cause) the only way was to log as a local admin to start the process...this is a drawback, that some internal websites weren't working well (think about activeX controls...shivers) well the whole package was giving me more support and interventions than otherwise with IE.
I am not telling that IE is cool and nice and Firefox not useful...just that in a corporate case even the nicest browser couldn't give a dent into Microsoft monopoly due to a severe lack of central management (or at least reporting).
*yes I know I can put the profile of firefox in a centralized location to achieve that, but it's not really what I have in mind here with "central administration"*

Yes you got me, difficult to read any sci-fi book after the great stories by Arthur Clarke.
But yes the idea isn't only pure sci-fi, cracks on Europa's icy surface has been spotted regularly. There is a nice picture on apod's website :
http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap020602.html
black smokers are probably too laying under Europa's surface (the tidal force of Jupiter's gravity could contribute to maintain a liquid nucleus in that tiny moon).
So there is life maybe there too.
Now just imagine the scope of such a mission "send a probe millions and millions of kilometers away to hit an icy moon to get explore the totally unknown underneath ocean of it (a few kilometers of water too)"
I don't think it could be ever feasible in a short term.
Because it's just plain true !

Thanks you very much for sharing this link with us...(and I see there's a linux version too)
I did saw "stem cells extracted from human farts..." had to re-read it a second time wondering where the science could ever stop

I don't have to worry because I didn't used my yahoo mailbox for any official purposes.
ah I shouldn't joke on that.
