Re hands free talking, it's been proven in many studies that it's the distraction of the conversation that's the real threat over the mechanical fumbling with the dialing of the phone.
California enacted hands-free talking last year then quickly realized they forgot text messaging. They pushed a bill through quickly that also bans texting.
I don't know about where you live, but the school curriculums I see are not doing nearly enough to prepare our kids for a lifetime of typed communication, which they surely face. Penmanship, while still important, is the only way kids are being taught in most schools. It's time to teach kids to be proficient typists and spellers using keyboards to at least the same extent as old fashioned written communication.
It's not slave labor, it's relative cost of living. The average wage in China is under $1,000 a year. if a job is offered at $2,000 a year, that's more than double the wage, yet is still many orders of magnitudes below the U.S. minimum wage.
We hear talk of U.S. socialism under Obama, yet the fact is that our fabulously high standard of living is getting averaged out across the world. We are all going to have to get used to living with less. It's inevitable over the next few decades, unless of course we use our nukes to just steal the resources.
And so I point out, perhaps awkwardly, that we should be glad for our jobs while we have them, and work hard to keep the U.S. competitive.
...why all our jobs are being outsourced offshore. That this discussion is even happening is a harbinger of doom for our little U.S. utopia. Whine on, you lazy diamonds.
What we are debating is the cost-per-eyeball to deliver content to readers. The web is way cheaper than any other network ever set up. One nice website serves millions, or billions. Compare to the cost of a TV broadcast network.
I've seen the Clear system in many airports. It was always empty. It always seemed to me that their ability to speed you though security was not because they possessed better background info but simply a matter of supply and demand - few occasional or even frequent travelers would pony up the $199. I never thought WHAT they did was any different - they still make you take out your computer, take off your shoes, etc.
Having been through many non-Clear security lines, I'll tell you they I strongly doubt they are doing any background checks on me as I pass through security - there's no way to get my personal data unless they have a face recognition system to die for.
So, why did Clear actually need all this background data?
Any distraction is bad, but cell phones are worse than passenger conversations:

This is one of those "duh" issues.

Why do these mass death incidents happen to Russia? I know they drink a lot...

I've always wanted the Segway to fail for just this reason. Dean Kamen is the modern day Buffalo Bill Cody.
I deserved that mod...
..hahahahahahahahha...sorry...

UAVs can completely replace manned military flight within the next decade. Any further investment in manned aircraft is pure politics.
It's lonely in space.

Everything will end up in one handheld device. Inevitable.
Any species that figures out how to travel in space also invents powerful weapons and blows itself up before it can visit other inhabited worlds.
I think not! These weapons are with us for good.
Super Tuna: overwhelms bad guys with his amazing taste, fast growth and resistance to disease
Dominant Dolphin: with a snout that can penetrate any armor
Excellent Eel: zaps bad guys before turning them over to the authorities
Outrageous Octopus: with super suction cups that can be used to lift and hurl heavy objects
I hereby retain all rights to the above characters.

An article with a clear agenda against MSFT. See other posts debunking the extra costs and MSFT-only slant.
...and trade it in for 20 years ago's model, and you have a story. VCRs, golf, bowling, tennis, cars, etc. etc.
