Who was the Apple sales rep on this account? Huge WIN - to FORCE parents to buy a kid a new machine when they might well ALREADY HAVE ONE that works perfectly well.
Mod parent up. I love how the right is blaming Obama for this, when years of cozy relationships between Bush, Cheney, Haliburton, the oil companies, and OPEC have served to dismantle any sense of control and regulation over these greedy fucks. Drill, baby, drill!
While this story has absolutely no redeeming value, it (and the comments above) do serve as boredom release. Does this get filed under Slashdot's entertainment section? SlashUS?
Only the lunatic fringe right cares about this. They make a lot of noise so they continue to be funded by the conservative lunatics. The sad part is that they get equal airtime.
The spill has been described as a volcano at the ocean floor. I haven't read anywhere that anybody knows how to cap it. Has our thirst for oil unleashed an apocalypse?
OK, let's go for the 14th amendment then. SB 1070 states that a police officer can go up to anyone and ask about their immigration status if they have "reasonable suspicion." Reasonable suspicion in this case could easily translate to "brown skin." No papers = possible jail. The 14th amendment was created to stop states from passing laws that override the clause in the constitution that "all men are created equal."
This law so clearly violates the fourth amendment that it will never hold up when the inevitable challenge comes in the courts. Some have predicted it will go all the way to the SCOTUS but I don't see it getting nearly so far.
Every patent that is ever written walks the line between too broad and too narrow claim language. The broader the language, the more likely prior art will be shown to exist. If the claims are too narrow, it is too easy for others to get around them.
I was driving south on 101 to Morgan Hill to work. About 3 miles north of my destination, my cell phone call was lost. At work, we had power but no internet, phones, or cell phones. We had radio, that was about it. It was later blamed on the fiber lines cut, which happened coincidentally right after the AT&T union contract had expired. Might as well been a terrorist.
Even though I have bluetooth and speaker phone capability in my BMW, I haven't recorded the people I want to call on my voice-activation list, and so I hunt my iPhone for their names while weaving in my lane.
I also sometimes check new email headers just because I am so bored during my 36 mile commute.
I also confess to glancing at the cover screen which pops up new text messages and missed calls and voicemails when they come in.
So while I don't text per se, I am certainly guilty of being distracted while driving.
I am NOT a supertasker. I just can't resist the siren song of the iPhone, always beckoning me with the sweet voice of non-boredom...
Oh wait, you can...

So if I want a frickin' steak I have to sacrifice a server? Easy decision - yummmm!
I'm sure my porn downloads will FLY with this new free feature.

...the robot only actuates the solution.

45k highway deaths a year is why. These technologies when perfected will save countless lives, maybe yours one day.

These claims seem about as broad as it gets. There's a whole wiki article on refactoring: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Code_refactoring
Can't imagine this will be issued as written.
Forget the power grid, all our communication infrastructure is equally if not more vulnerable.
A year ago, all of South San Jose suffered a communication outage due to this intentional fiber sabotage:

It's last week's news...
All the studies show it isn't safe - it has been banned in several states. Why not everybody?
Bless me father, for I have sinned on the road.

I hope there's a sensitivity calibration - I wouldn't want me shaking my fist at an outrageous story inadvertently reformatting my hard drive.
Notoriously unreliable, imprecise, jammable. I hope there is a backup plan! Like, keep the existing radars operational.
