Without precise calculations we could fly right through an asteroid field or bounce too close to a monolith and that'd end your trip real quick, wouldn't it?
A friend of a friend once got shot in the leg and face while on a passenger jet because some yahoo on the ground took a shot at it while it was coming in for a landing. Taking pot shots at low-flying aircraft is something we may wanna discourage.
I'm currently subscribed to (big name streaming service) and going through all the albums that have placed on the yearly Pazz and Jop album poll. (I'm up to the 1980's now.) That's about 2 - 3 albums every day I'm at my desk, listening to each album twice. For ten dollars a month, that ain't exactly tragic.
A recent New Yorker article (paywall) on a Buddhist monk who consoles people contemplating suicide brought up this issue. (Suicide being another social phenomena Japan is dealing with.) One hikikomori he consoled said his lifestyle is not quite unlike a monk's in terms of withdrawal from society.
One thing I wondered after 9/11 and the addition of 'reinforced cockpit doors' is whether pilots actually need access to the cabin at all. Imagine they have a separate entrance onto the plane, and are completely sealed off from the cabin once in flight. (They get all the other basic necessities of life - food, coffee, restroom, etc. - already with them up front.) Additionally, unless officials on the ground feel they need to know, the pilots have no clue what's going on in the cabin - no CCTV feed, no intercom, no cell phones, no nothing. Terrorists could be threatening to slaughter the passengers like sheep, but the pilots aren't informed. So despite the risk to the passengers, the terrorist could never get control of the plane, making an attack on a plane pointless in the first place.
Not because it's better, heaven's no. It's because most financial and government institutions use it as the web standard they develop toward, since it's the standard browser in the office. Note I'm talking about institutions not generally internet-oriented, like the bank or the water company.
The Chinese-built mass-produced 2e should be less expensive than its American sibling, but Deringer believes that US buyers will want what his version has to offer. “From the initial research that I’ve done, I get a lot of people in Silicon Valley and California and Texas and other places who would like the car hand-made, not Chinese-made, and they want it to match to what their requirements are,” he tells us. “We can do that in the US, it can’t be done in China.”
If you're just setting your watch or the kitchen clock, +/- a few seconds to the minute is good enough. You want down to the second / millisecond / microsecond accuracy, go somewhere else.

How is it in a major technology company's best interest to set up shop in a state where it's leaders encourage it's citizens to be stupid?
