Multiple reasons. Universal entitlement is easier to administer. UK citizen & got a child, here's you cash. No means testing, no disputes, no one moaning about it being unfair. The money ostensibly belongs to the child, not the parent.

Why? To try and ensure a *minimum* of care. *ALL* children receive it, via their parents, from the state.

Though there is nothing *wrong* with your setup, have you considered booting via PXE and AOE from the RAID ? My terminals are all diskless. I can even boot them in Qemu and administer them without even having to switch them on.

I got fed up with all the noise so I took my drives out, put them in the server in the (dry) cellar and now boot Debian with AOE over gigE.

They are served via vblade from a file, with the added benefit of cp debian debian.backup *and* I can boot from them in Qemu

I've tried quite a bit to get interactive BT stuff going. There seems to be no way to offer decent options to message recipients. We would like to be able to send them a menu from which they can choose "download image", "download video" or "download music" (or some other choice). All I've managed to work out is discover "client", send message. The client then gets somethign akin to "DrSkwid is trying to send you a message, accept y/n". On my Nokia N80 you can't even choose "reply" and have an SMS style conversation. Anyone got any thoughts ?
