I with you on the mapping concept. Although it's kind of funny - I can build an effective cognitive map, whether driving, playing a game or whatever, but I couldn't use it to help you find your way if you paid me. Some kind of hemispherical disconnect I imagine.

  2. happens to me all the time on The State of Play - Violence and Videogames · · Score: 3, Funny

my first memory of this phenomenon is after playing Lode Runner on the C64 for hours, then trying to read a book. the letters would drop off the end of the line as I read.

when I played Katamari for too long I would see everything in terms of "can I roll it up", which could be dangerous when driving.

I still find myself strafing around corners in office building, entering elevators backwards, and being very aware that landing a plane is just a controlled crash.

None of that, however, has made me more likely to shoot someone when the elevator door opens or run my car over a pedestrian to hit my 10m goal.

gotta agree with you there. i find it amusing that a third rate band can take 2 or 3 years to make a new CD, when a band like The Beatles or The Stones could put out 2 a year during their prime.

the first Ramones album was recorded in a day and lasted all of 26 minutes. yet it remains an all time great.

  14. no surprise, part of the plan on iPhone Battery Replacement An Unwelcome Surprise · · Score: 5, Interesting

from what I have read the battery will work efficiently through about two years of "normal" usage. two years from now there will be a new iPhone, and given the choice of paying $120 for a new battery (and loaner) versus $500 for the inevitably cooler NEW iPhone, my guess is that most will opt for the new phone. more $ for Apple. i would expect a wave of used iPhones on eBay around the same time. maybe i'll get one then.

I think Paul has it right. One of our local radio stations used to have a segment called, "The Perfect Album Side". Twenty minutes of great music. It's just an accident of technology that albums have grown to 60 or 70 minutes, and it IS too long. The problem now is that no one would buy a CD with only 8 songs and 40 minutes of music. UNLESS, it was priced less than a "normal" CD.

Hmm. One of the things I find refreshing about the Wii is that many of its games do not "taste" standard. Elebits, Paper Mario, Monkey Ball, Sports are all games that, to me at least, tend to be less standard than the crop of FPS and racing games that dominate the other consoles.

As for internet play, I truly do not care. Video games to me are about disconnecting from the "real world", I don't want to be social when I'm playing them.
