Im sure there are millions of people that come on the net claiming things that arent the truth, and I could care less if you believe this or not. But, Neil is a close personal friend of my family, Ive met him personally (though briefly) once, and he has some very interesting and detailed stories about his experience. I cant imagine that he would make up that sort of detail, and continue to propigate such a lie with even with his close friends for so long. Not to mention that it just seems unlikely that after so many years, not one person from NASA or any other person involved, has come forward with any sort of proof that it didn't actually happen.
I love how the conspiracy theorists always come out of the woodworks with supposed "proof" from random videos and articles on the internet. A video on YouTube carries no more credibility if not considerably less than the NASA videos themselves. Its just as easy to make a fake video prooving it wrong as it is to make a fake video prooving it right. You can misconstrue the facts to mean just about anything you want.
Im not saying I believe it one way or the other but I would take the word of the man himself before I believed a bunch of faceless internet denizens.
I was wondering the same thing myself. How is it possible that we can harvest that sort of quanity in our life times, yet all the sudden we are worried about losing it? Something just doesnt sound right about that.
For wifi calling access... a Blackberry with UMA is by far your best bet. Ive tried a lot of the VoiP apps on other phones and none have really done well.
While I agree; we will be innundated with ads regardless, better that they be locally relevant to promote local businesss. I do however take issue with the ISP selling any of my information without my consent. We're it truely an opt in (with the ability opt out) procedure than I wouldnt really take issue to this.
While I am not going to spread the FUD and agree with wholly with the statements of vulnerability, I would have to ask why ANY app would need "Full Call Permissions" in the first place? Furthermore, why would android allow that at all? Theres no reason why any of these apps need some of the access that they are requesting. For example; why does Dictionary.com request "Phone Calls" access? Im not one to cry foul without proof, but I do believe there does need to be some oversight in the Android market to prevent apps from requesting unnecessary access.
So what is this OS targeted at? Just tablet PC's, netbooks, and embedded systems? Do they really intend to compete in the desktop market with Windows? The joke, "will it run Crysis?" really isnt a joke at all, because nobody will use it if it doesn't. Unless they have full binary compatibility with windows itself they will go nowhere. It really doesnt make any business sense to persue something like this, at least, Im not seeing it. Unless of course they are targeting it at very specific niche platforms, which is the only way I can see them being successful with this. I would love to see this on an HTPC or something. Sure, in true geek fashion I will most certainly try it out. But I cant see this being any more than a novelty.
The problem with most, if not all of these surveys is that they consider every pirated instance or download a loss of profit whether the person would have paid for or even uses it or not. A pirated instance of photoshop is not a loss of profit if the individual would have never paid for it in the first place. Granted there is some profit lost to pirated software but its signifigantly less than what these studies seem to suggest. That doesnt make it any more ethically acceptable but it's the truth. In my opinion this may simply a lobbying tactic to gain sympathy from law makers for more strict legislation.
While you are probably quite accurate in your post, I think you are missing the point. Though only 70.7% of the light at 45 degrees may be hitting the solar cell, there is additional loss due to reflection and other factors that are inherent to the materials used. So you may only be getting 65% of the actual light at 45 degrees and even less at greater angles (I dont know the math behind this, it was just a hypothetical example). The meta materials do not eliminate the need to steer the panel they only improve the efficiency of the panel itself.
This is what Im trying to figure out. Obviously the two different OS's come from completely different roots, what is it that could possibly be infringing on patents of Microsoft? Unless of course its one of those obscure patents on something like a "popup window" or some crap like that. I dont understand how anybody is supposed to innovate in this day in age when doing anything new like playing mine sweeper in hard mode.
The fact of the matter is, porn is the third leg (pun intended) of this economy. Its very existence drives technical innovation, and indirectly employs millions of workers. Not only workers in the industry, but workers that work in industries that support it (i.e. networking equipment, IPS, banks, etc). Certainly porn has created some moral problems but nobodsy can argue that porn itself has hurt this economy in any way.
Where are these so called "porn" apps of which he speaks? I dont see anything porn related in the android store with the exception of some "privacy" browser which just deletes cookies and history and stuff. Yea the Android Market is much more open than the Apple Store, but its not exactly teaming with porn apps. Jobs is just a douche bag trying to justify his communist/socialist attitude a bunch of BS aimed at discrediting his competitors.
No seriously... where are these porn apps??? Inquiring minds want to know! lol;)
Aww poor pitiful emo fan boy. *rolls eyes* It is truly pathetic that you would wish death on somebody simply because you doing like the direction they are going with their own media franchise. Get a life, or just stop trying.
I get what youre saying, but once an app has been scored consistently bad enough it would be filtered out and/or flagged for deletion. So you would still see most of hte apps until they were scored.
We have had this problem in the past. We implemented a BSOD style of system that would literally consume the entire space of the application being run to notify them of errors. No possible way they could miss it, they are not allowed to continue without restarting the application. In addition to the error message we would log basically a full stack trace to a central logging database along with a time stamp, user id, application name, etc. So a use reporting an issue would need only to read a quick id that showed on the error message and we could look it up in the database without having to pester the user for more information. This process seems to work well, and I think they key to get around the task asfixiation thing is to simply not allow them to continue with their session if it is a process breaking errors. For the most part, all other non-ciritical errors that arent affecting data or process are logged silently.
The configuration of the robot is not the accomplishment here, its the fact that robot can actually learn to walk on its own. As the article mentions; if a leg is damaged, it an re-learn how to walk without that leg. Most if not all hexapod robots would have a lot of trouble moving at all if one leg, or even two, were damaged. Based on what this thing seems to be capable of doing, that would only only probably mean a few minutes of down time before it started moving again. IT wouldnt have to be manually re-programmed to walk again without those legs. This is great for things like interplanetary robots where a single command takes weeks to transmit, when they dont even know if the robot is stuck until it has no way of getting itself out. I dont think the accomplishment is the robot itself but rather the programming that runs it.
excessive caution... and excessive budget! I definately think space flight should be privatised, if not for that reason alone. If we privatise space flight that means less taxes we (theoretically) somehow I think the rest of the government would find some way to soak up the savings in some other bull$**t. NASA should just provide funding via Grants/Loans/etc and technical assistance to private ventures. They could also provide a great deal over oversight to make sure the private corps dont step out of line. Just my opinion anyway.
IMO it is the responsibility of our government at least to defend its citizens, be they actual people or corporations operating in the US. Im not sure what retaliation would be in this case though. Im sure we have had some soft of cyber espionage going on against them for quite some time now. We just happen to be a little better about not getting caught I would assume. In any case, the fact that we have difinitively proven they have made some attempt to hack and have commited crimes against the US, give us every right to retaliate using whatever means necessary to defend our own integrity. Were do you draw the line though? It starts with a few cyber attacks, then what? Im kinda on the fence with this one, part of me says fight back, the other part asks what purpose that would serve.
This is the kind of topic that SHOULD be on slashdot. And no Im not being sarcastic. Something informational that might benefit everybody, dispite all the bickering in the subsequent posts! There's one thing you can count on with slashdot readers, dispite how arrogant most of us are, or how ignorant most are when it comes to politicial information - We usually know our shit when it comes to computer stuff!:)
Is this still a problem? My blackberry is working fine... I havnt had any problems all day or yesterday and I've been on it hourly at the least. In fact it almost seems to be faster right now than it has been in a long time! Maybe thats because everybody else is out! haha In any case, I have t-mobile.
Personally I think anything with "trans-border jurisdiction" is just asking to be taken advantage of. I like the seperation of government and jurisdiction, although I definately think that something like th UN should reform some of their policies on extradition. In any case, trans-border jurisdiction means jack squat if you cant get the local government to cooperate.

The title of the article should read, "iPad owners take it in the backdoor!" haha

Allow sorting and filtering by rating. Problem solved. Let the community filter out the crap.

And of course the Pink Shirt Book, Guide to IBM PCs. So called due to the nasty pink shirt the guy wears on the cover
