I have personally downloaded the same game or movie many times over, downloading is simpler then searching though your collection or saving space on your computer. And I download many things all the time that I never actually use.
"This is complete nonsense. Any computer left on permanently would suffer at least a few, if not all, of the following problems: mechanical failure (hard disk, fans, power supply and so on), software crash (operating system falling big time or some other bit of software just failing to work) and overheating due to dust being sucked into the case. The only thing that leaving a computer on will do is get you a massive electricity bill."
I think this is not necessarily true and especially in the cases the question is referring to it is wrong. When you are talking big super computers mechanical parts can be hot swapped and software does not have to degrade over time as it is used. With diligent enough coding of the kernel and the ability to restart the other parts of the OS, this problem can be avoided.
"From V'ger in Star Trek the motion picture to Skynet in the Terminator films, Hollywood has this fascination that left turned on for long enough a computer will become sentient."
V'ger was enhanced by a race of sentient computers, it was not just left on to long.
Their are physical and logical reasons why it cannot continue.
one being the size of an atom, while parallel processing will help with this physical size and mass will increase. And with the nature of Moor's law this would mean the size and weight of computers doubling every year.
another is usefulness, eventually if Moore's law was to continue, we would get to a point when we would not need any more processing power.
So is the article saying their is no commercial purpose cameras out their, or the commercial ones just cost a lot more then $12,000, or just that some of the really expensive ones are for non commercial applications?
Also it seems really weird that a company would make a camera that is going to be used primarily for commercial purposes and then say in the manual that it is not allowed to be used for that.
It is not a video game camp if they spend the vast majority of their time doing things not related to video games. 3 hours is only a small percentage of the waking day, so IMHO this camp sounds like a normal balanced summer camp.
But seriously, 3 hours of video gaming and they are getting criticized with health concerns? How many hours a day do these kids have to be engaged in physical activity? If you take a 24 hour day and remove 3 hours for video games, 3 hours for eating, and 9 for sleeping then that leaves you with 9 left. I do not know about the average kid, but 9 hours sounds like a lot of exercise and a lot more then I would expect an average person to be able to even do.
While I think he should be punished, online account hacking happens all the time (probably hundreds or thousands of times per day). And even with moderately higher profile hacking, not one normally gets charged.
how is powering an entire city not worth 3 football fields of real estate? I would not be surprised if that is not already in the ballpark of what is being used.
They can pass any laws they want, but who enforces them? I might be wrong here, but at least for the majority of flights are the pilots the highest ranking people on the plane? and I doubt that a stewardess will go so far as to report a pilot.
I would say all of those people leaving really makes it sound like it was Activision that was mostly to blame for all this. Well they lost their biggest money making team of developers, hopefully they will treat their employees better in the future.
But I am happy that such a good team of developers are now working for hopefully less evil companies/company.
But the only financial incentive to keep the server software private is to force these people to buy the Xbox 360 and Halo 3 if they want to keep playing online.
The Xbox is dead, so stop supporting the servers, but give away the software for fans to continue using it.
Facebook is the best site for staying connected with your friends, to really stay connected then both you and your friends need to have an account on the same site. and as you cannot make people have accounts and use them on any facebook replacment, then any move to the alternative will likly fail.
Just never put anything on facebook that you would care, if the world say it and you will be OK.
Now if you really just need a site to post your thoughts/status on then their are many alternative, but good luck getting your friends to read them.
It is the minions fault, of course no one in management would ever do anything amoral.
Per download is definitely a flawed system.
I have personally downloaded the same game or movie many times over, downloading is simpler then searching though your collection or saving space on your computer.
And I download many things all the time that I never actually use.
How is their a difference? if Mac did not properly support IPv6 then it is their problem.
And I assume it did not mention Windows because they had no problems, the site seemed to just be listing problems.
Luckily for him they were separate videos.

"10. When systems go wrong, stuff starts to explode"
I do not know about explode, but I have seen sparks shoot out of a computer when it stopped working.
Obviously Moore's law was doomed from the start.

1,200 fans in a week is amazingly low for facebook.
Some very stupid useless pages can get millions of fans in a week.

Where are the pictures of this scientifically interesting event?
I do not see how they could not know it was a guide dog, they were even given a fact card.
Maybe they thought it was a guy guide dog.
It will be easy to get funding now.
All they have to do is "demand the sum... OF 1 MILLION DOLLARS" or they set it off.
how is powering an entire city not worth 3 football fields of real estate?
I would not be surprised if that is not already in the ballpark of what is being used.
Now all we have to do is find a tachyon eddy and we could be on Cardasia in no time.
Good for you, if everyone was as vocal about things they cared about I think the world would be a better place.
I wonder why you are modded Funny. I am pretty sure your post does not contain a joke I just missed.

Cannot agree more, many judges even break laws as far as I can tell with some of their rulings.
If the judge hates file sharing enough, or their is enough force lobbied against this ISP it will not matter if they have the law on their side.

Just dont post any sensitive infomation on facebook and you can continue to stay connected to your family and friends.

Have the developers of this product never driven before?
and never even bothered to read a book about recommended/required driving practices?
It is impossible to drive while just looking at were you have to drive.
you have to check gauges, mirrors, keep an eye all other traffic, etc.
I suppose you could drive down the street with this and you might not get into an accident, but you would never be allowed to pass a drivers test.
As far as I can tell this idea is fundamentally flawed and cannot ever possibly work.
