Lucas has already said he won't make 7,8,9 because the story is finished. And I agree. I don't want to see old Luke, Leia and Han in an elderly home swappnig old war stories. This is just another bad fanboy idea, which is ironic since most fanboys seem to think they can come up with a better idea which is almost always not true.
Just plain old realism. You can always say, 'in the future X technology will be cheaper and faster than today's Y technology'. C'mon, it doesn't take a genious to say that.
The thing is, that the original poster has a tone of "we've been doing real time animation for quite some time" and asking why movies studios are not going in that direction. The answer to that is pretty obvious too.
Judge Dredd!!! You got that right!

Oh my God, I tought I was going crazy! I keep hearing that song over and over and over in so many trailers, I was starting to think I couldn't tell the difference between one tune to the other.
The theme has been repeated so many times, I started to think Judge Dredd ripped it off too. Thanks for comfirnming that, and I can't believe they keep doing that. Get some original music people!
To be quite honest, the Germans are the ones that looked bad after this game.
Already the press is saying how the US pretty much dominated most of the game, and even ex-German players are criticizing the poor performance of the German team.
Historically, Germany is a "soccer" super-power and has won the World Cup more than one time.
The US is a "novice" when it comes to this sport, and in the last World Cup we finished dead last out of all the countries.
Support for soccer in Germany is great, even the president of that country was photographed watching the game.
So to be quite honest, I'm proud of a 1-0 loss against Germany (let's not talk about the obvious goal & penalty not counted by the referee).
Germans expected to beat the US like they did Saudi Arabia. All they came up with was a "1-0" win. At this rate, the current German team has very little chances of beating Brazil, Spain or even Senegal/Turkey.
George Lucas is a "used car salesman" that was once famous ? I don't know in what reality you lived, considering how much money the current movies are making and the 3rd one will make.
Not only to mention that after A New Hope he was involved in a little thing called Indiana Jones, and among other little things, the creating the premier special effects house that is still the "one to beat".
Not only that, but this "has been" as you seem to call him, is currently doing what no other studio would dare, which is to promote the use of digital recording and projection for a major motion picture. Yes, he didn't get the thousands of digital screens he wanted, but a lot more got installed just for his "little" movie.
George, why couldn't you have died in the 80s and left us imagining how great the movies could have been ?
Wow, talk about being a totally lifeless loser ! Whishing somebody had died so his view of a movie wouldn't be screwed up. Oh man !
How about this ? Don't see the new movies and the new releases, I'm sure you can buy tapes of the orinal movies and watch them all day so your world is not shattered !
> More theaters means more money. Forcing theaters to play the movie for more time means more money. Lucas is the Bill Gates of movies when it comes to dealing with theaters.
You must be talking about the Spider-Man movie, which plays in more theaters, and which Sony paid more money to hold those screens for the Memorial Holiday. But then again, it's cool to bash Lucas, and not Sony when convienient.
There are a gazillion Star Wars fan fiction films going around, and they haven't been shut down by Lucasfilm. Just go the theforce.net for some of them.
I think Lucas only had a problem with the so called "Phantom Edit" and I can understand why he wouldn't like people editing his film in such a manner.
I would bet a lot of money you couldn't produce anything even as half entertaining as Lucas would. I you were able, we would have already seen your movies.
You do know that Lucasfilm is not one of the major "Hollywood studios" do you ?;-)
They use Fox for what, distribution I think ? But they have very little to do with the big studios that pump out films at a much higher rate than Lucasfilm (their last movie was Phantom Menace, years ago ! )
There is nothing unmarketable about such a story -- it's not like he's going to screw princess Leia or something. Anyway, read what I said -- the *plot* is not so exciting (according to the original poster, anyway). The *characters* are chosen for marketting purposes -- specifically, Jar-Jar.
And you know what the plot is ? And what's not exciting about the fall of the Republic and it's turn to the Empire, with a gigantic battle that includes dozens of Jedi ! I'm sorry, but I don't know what the heck you're talking about.
What does marketable mean ? Givin fans what they want ? He has his own story to tell, and if it was %100 only marketing driven, there will be no Jar Jar in this movie (which there is, even tough a little, apperantly), and again, he wouldn't be making a pre-quel but a sequel which is what most people wanted.
People just want to say , marketing driven, or he's out to just make money, to excuse their dislikes of the prequels. Why don't you wait to see the movie and then judge it ?
> In the case of SW, the who appears to be chosen purely by marketting concerns,
Marketing concerns ? A trilogy about how the main character becomes the main villian. A prequel instead of a sequel (which is what most fans originally wanted). A movie about a separatist movement inside of a galactic republic ?
You must be a marketroid if you attribute that to marketing zombies !
Actually what is most disappointing, is the constant non-stop whining about how the new trilogy sucks.
C'mon people, please come up with new reasons for not liking the prequels. Do we have to constantly read about "continue milking money out of the franchise" ?
The movie looks like fun, big battles, cool characters, etc. If you've seen previous star wars films you know what to expect. Just saying , "it's not creative" enough amounts to saying nothing. What do you want ? I really doubt that you could come up with anything more creative that the visuals and excitement in those few minutes of the trailer.
Oh BTW, your post is not "creative". Did I already mention that ?:-)

Is this the same guy who made Robocop 2?
Gary Kurtz? What has he produced lately? Let's see "Slipstream"*('89) and "The Steal"('94). Yeah, those have "blockbuster" written all over them.
The only person that seems more active in the movie industry is Kasdan, with a movie coming up in 2003. We'll forgive his script for the "Bodyguard".
...considering that Episode 1 is the 2nd top grossing movie of all time.
You may have not liked it, but some people definetly went to see it over and over and over.
what in the world does this one means?
Is it an "O" for open source with a keyhole or a drunken "C" tripping over itself?
Just plain old realism. You can always say, 'in the future X technology will be cheaper and faster than today's Y technology'. C'mon, it doesn't take a genious to say that.

Metal Gear Solid did this long ago, not to mention, Metal Gear Solid 2 which is much improved.

But he shouldn't be surprised if the audience does not accept the revised work
Oh yeah, how much do you want to bet that these DVDs with new footage will sell like hotcackes ?
I never said I didn't like it.
But Oscar for best special effects over TPM ? Yeah, right !

> TPM was widely disappointing while the matrix was that year's big surprise...
... just like ours. Talk about photorealism !!!
I wonder if that's why it made SO MUCH money than the Matrix, specially after so many bad reviews and "bad word of mouth".
And oh yeah, it had much better special effects, imagine, a virtual world that looks

Sorry, but the one that sounds like a racist here is you , since you are saying black people look like Amphibian aliens from the swamps of Naboo.
Please get a grip.
I would bet a lot of money you couldn't produce anything even as half entertaining as Lucas would. I you were able, we would have already seen your movies.
Please. Get a grip on reality.

I used to work for a marketting company. Sorry.
Knew it, LOL !

You are correct, the music (from all the trailers) are from previous Star Wars movies. I think this one was 2 or 3 from TESB.
He's probably not done yet.

Quicktime pro is required to view the hi=res trailer, that's what people are complaining about, not the silly nag screens.
