By the time that Doom III comes out, I'm pretty sure that 99% of slashdot readers will have upgraded their computers at least once. So I don't think that cpu power will be a problem.
Ok ok ok... when I first saw the pictures I was like "wow"... that looks pretty damn good. I was impressed at looking at how it looks compared to what is out there now.
Thinking twice on it... it doesn't seem all that "woohoo" great. I have yet to play RE0 on Gamecube but I did see a commercial of it in action and pics. Well RE0 looks fucking incredible. YES... it is at a lower resolution but it still looks good nonetheless.
RE0 runs on a 300mhz machine with 32megs of vid ram (I think) and looks great. Doom III which is supposed to look just as good but run at a higher resolution will not run on my OCZ GeForce 3 and Athlon 1.7ghz. By the time this comes out (they say 2004, more like 2005) the next gen home consoles should be out and put the current ones to shame.
I don't want to start a flame war between consoles and computers, its been done to death. But if this is all they can do with 2-3 more years of development time when computers will be hitting ~4 ghz and the nVidia will introduce a new generation graphics chipset, then consider me not impressed.
Man, I've known that SNK is going to declare bankruptcy for a while now and the news doesn't get any easier.
Yes, I bought the neo-geo console system with one of my friends 9 years ago back in middle school. The first game we bought was Samurai Spirits. Good times... good times.
don't get me to gripe on capcom 84 hit combo's that take 25% of a power bar with 3D special effects... that's not what fighting games are about.
I was really hoping for SNK to release SNK vs Capcom on the neogeo console (which was scheduled)... I think some Korean company bought the licenses for SNK's games whereas Capcom hired plenty of SNK's developers and (i think) characters. I'm not sure, I have all this info typed up somewhere... still kinda depressed about... hehe, that's not healthy, thats for damn sure!
Too bad most of SNK's best fighters never made it into the arcade circuit in the USA, long live the Fatal Fury: Real Bout(s), FF: MOTW, Art of Fighting (which was incredible for it's time), Samurai Spirits/Shodown, and King of Fighters.
Capcom may have popularized (and subsequently destroyed) the 2D Fighting genre but SNK made it enjoyable.
sorry, to waste your time in this segmented and jumpy rant, i just had to say something.
>>"The 'Main Street' retailers have a legitimate fairness argument when they see customers come to the store to locate items they want to purchase, only to leave and order the items over the Internet just to escape the sales tax,"
C'mon, who buys stuff off the internet to avoid paying sales tax? go to pricewatch and you'll see incredible ram prices but with 13$ shipping charges. I've shipped ram before, and i know that it doesn't take 13$ to ship. But, even with that high shipping, it's still cheaper then stuff they sell at Best Buy. I buy stuff over the internet because I don't feel like paying the high mark-up that local stores add. The best prices that i've seen come from small businesses. This isn't about people escaping sales taxes, it's about the 'Main Street' retailers not being able to maintain their profit margins on items.
If this passes, the computer and internet industries will follow Nasdaq. I'm not a Republican, but keep government out of the Internet.
Yes, what i'm about to say has been stated by others in previous posts. But when is slashdot going to get their head out of their asses? I believe that the past 3 sega stories have all been interpreted WRONG (or just outright bad rumors). Everyone should respond to this topic to express their outrage of slashdot's incompetence. does slashdot have a problem against sega? well, fine, i have a problem with linux! damn hippies!
Back when I was in the computer field, I flat out refused to sign it. It said that if I quit that I wouldn't go to a competitor and work for them (because fear of losing secrets). I simply told them "No". Why didn't they fire me on the spot? I was too valuable for them to fire me.
You know, if everyone at microsoft would have refused to sign that document, microsoft would have had to fire everyone or rethink that policy. too bad no one had the cajones to stand up for their rights.
but isn't DivX just a hex edited version of microsoft's mpeg4 implementation? At least thats what i thought. So in essence, the people at DivX are open-sourcing MS's original product?
i think that the drive behind linux is the essence of linux. a free os that's very customizable. if MS decided to release windows millenium for free and open-sourced it, you would still have the problem of the big-bad conglomerate trying to extend it's reach and squash any competitor.
people will switch over and use mac os x, but it's not going to be something of a noticable magnitude.
seriously, i think superbowl 33 (when the broncos when for the 2nd time) my friend, who's a theater manager hooked up the television to the projector and we were watching the superbowl on a big ass theater screen. all you need is a cable television cable or a regular tv antanae. last time i checked, those were streaming =)
thank gawd, an intelligent reply...
I am not running for an elected office. If I am an angel or not isn't relative. What is relative is the behavior of GW. Ok, GW doesn't lie... oh wait, instead of lying he avoids addressing the issue. Has he addressed his (ex)coke problem? Nope, he refuses to answer any question pertaining to that. He said that he's been sober for more than 20 years (not exactly sure of ##) yet there's a video of him getting hammered at a friend's wedding. You have to agree that the Republicans are rather hypocritical, example, the republicans blasted Bill Clinton because he smoked a little weed in college. They now endorse GW who did a LOT more than just smoke a little weed. If the republicans can blast Clinton what he did 20 years ago then why can't i apply the same standards on republicans? My decision to vote for Gore is not only based on this, but also that GW is a dumbass. He is a comedians dream come true. The intelligence of a leader of a nation of 300 million people should be a priority on everyones list.
"Claiming to have invented the Internet" before you respond to something, i reccomend that you don't listen to snickers commercials as your primary source of information.
look at the conversations above in the slashdot message board for info on this.
so you voted for gw because he's not a liar right?
if a burglar was to break into your house and wanted to kill your children where would you send them? would you send them to friend (a) who had a coke problem, was an alcoholic, and frequently did anything the mob said in exchange for money?
or
would you give your children to friend (b) who has lied on occasion, but only because it was for the greater good (lying doesn't equal bad, take a philosophy class)
Actually, the game boy advance's hardware was finished quite a long time ago (3-5 years ago), the reason it never came out was because the regular gameboy came out with the gameboy pocket, which made oodles of money, thus, no need for the advance. in the meantime, they improved the battery life of the GBA. and actually, the best handheld ever was the TG-16 express. i liked the lynx though, i still play my brothers from time to time
It doesn't matter that he stole the bitmaps from the site, it's not like he went through a big pain to get them, he just right-clicked 'save picture as'. It isn't an OS. I don't wanna hear people saying that he should change it or shouldn't have done it. i've seen people in this chat that couldn't believe apple's nerve when they contacted stardock in order to remove the winaqua skins, they then come here and yell out 'bloody murder!' when they see someone copying a linux homepage.
i thought that standard cd's have a life of about 15 years, of course, the less you handle it, the longer it lasts, but a cd designed for a 15 year life cannot last for 50,000 years... and then you have gold cd's... 100 years, maybe you can stretch it out a couple more hundred years. if anyone is out there to read our message in 50,000 years all they'll find is some obsolete technology with silver platters of an unrecognizable array of 1's and 0's.
now, i remember back in the day, their was a programming contest that put a limit on the size of the program. they had a website that listed the winners and the programs... quite impressive to say the least. i think they would have a 100k limit and the program would have a few 3d boxes with realtime lighting and shading, dancing around and morphing.... something like that. but the winners were EXTREMELY talented, does anyone know where that website is and if they still hold their contest?
do we really need a mouse that vibrates? ok, i can see it as a useable product for games like quake and unreal. but won't games have to have built in support for the mouse? the possibilities of companies taking advantage of this is also bad. imagine when you browse the web and instead of pop-up-windows, your mouse will shake, or if you run your cursor over an advertisement your mouse will shake. does anyone need a mouse that shakes in a 2d environment? this isn't a revolution, but a novelty
i can't see this happening now, but the way technology is advancing and becoming so much of an integrated piece of our lives, the solution will be to simply change the language (and alphabet) so that the acronym will stand. sigh, yes folks, this will happen someday
i remember reading about this in high school (3 years ago) in a book published in 1982. IBM is putting a lot of resources into this. and if you think about it, the payoffs are tremendous... all of the worlds computers using data storage created by IBM
I assume that you signed a piece of paper when you began to work for your employer. On these contracts, it states that they have the right to modify the contract... but... they must tell you that they modified it and I think that you have to have atleast 30 days of notification. From what I've read in court cases, companies can do whatever they want to do to their computers. It's their computers on their network in their building on their time. If you're really don't want them to record your key logs, then I'd reccomend bringing in your own computer to do your emails and such, but then again you might get in trouble for doing that
Aaaaah, that I did NOT know. Yes, a huge difference indeed, thanks.

>> Ummm... the computer and internet industries ARE Nasdaq.
haha, my fault. I feel stupid. I know that and still said that. I should have elaborated more.

will I be able to download porn any faster? (an indirect simpsons reference)
allright, egg on my face... it was webfoot technologies, but i got their "clones" (if you can call them that) mixed up with something else
