It's more on the border between science (cognitive neuroscience), linguistics and philosophy, but this book provides the assembly language of human reason, otherwise known as embodied cognition. It will one day be recognized as one of the great works of early 21st century.
I worked for Nolan Bushnell in the mid-90s at one of his failed, post-Atari ventures. The guy clings to his success with Pong like it was the tattered old teddy bear that he can't go to bed without. He'd come in blustering about this or that allegedly brilliant idea, and yet it would always fall flat on the ground like buttered-side-down toast. He's a one-hit wonder who's been desperately scratching for his second big hit for close to 30 years now.
But to decide to have no security because you can't protect against all attack vectors is stupid.
Quit playing with straw. The Lab has always had security, and should do what it can to upgrade that security when possible. But the multi-million dollar boondoggle that is the inspection booths add very little in the way of any true security, but much in the way of making a positive impression to right-wing paranoids, as well as inconveniencing the hell of out me when I want to go play in the Jemez Mtns.
All the inspection booths have done is to rule out one obvious attack strategy. So now they won't be coming with trucks full of explosives. At best, the booths provide a false sense of security. Any attacker with half a brain will be able to circumvent their protection.
The booths were just an excuse to spend money and give the impression of security. I bet the contractor who built them is cozy with the lab managers and shares the same sense of right-wing paranoia they are attempting to project into the Lab.
6 years of Bush has created an atmosphere of mindless paranoia at the Lab. Included in this has been a multi-million dollar boondoggle in the form of vehicle inspection booths on state highways there. It's completely unnecessary that my truck be inspected before I go skiing at Pajarito Mountain or mountain biking at the Valles Caldera.
Snide, rude, critical of both parties, and fucking sexy as hell! Wonkette is the BOMB that W. thought he would find in Iraq, but didn't ('cause he was LYING through his teeth!)
For the last two months, Yahoo had been displaying a message over my inbox advising me to pay for more storage. Now, they're giving me the storage they were asking me to pay for just yesterday.
It makes me wonder, if I had decided to pay for the 100mb of mail storage space yesterday, would they have offered me a refund today?
I live in a remote area where DirecTV is the only option. The only time I've noted transmission problems is when snow accumulates on the dish. When it's snowing hard, I have to go out and sweep the dish off every now and then, so if you're living in an area where it snows, make sure the dish is somewhere you can easily hit it with a broom.
Wouldn't it be funny if we found out that Microsoft was behind SCO in a desperate attempt to discourage businesses from replacing their MS products with Linux?
Virtual PC 6.1 is over, under and away the most buggy and unstable application I have ever run under any Apple OS. It's practically useless for anything other than simple web browsing, if and when it stays up long enough to do so.
And just forget about applying the endless stream of MS security updates. It takes at least 3 tries to get any single patch to hold if you're lucky, and many never take hold at all.
Comfort is the underlying motivator of all human behavior. Advances in sporting goods technology make these activities easier, and therefore more comfortable. We find ourselves going faster, yet in more control. The rushes we get from it provide yet more comfort.
Think about it. Everything we do breaks down to seeking comfort.
The whole aim of this rhetoric is to capture the minds of the less intelligent. By creating the greatest conspiracy the world has ever known, these batty headed buffoons hope to spawn an ever- growing network of zealots across the US.
To believe in creationism is to abandon modern culture itself, so these folk are creating their own culture within the mainstream.
It's scary to think they believe theirs will become the dominant culture one day.

Regardless of which side of the fence you sit, the fact is that for some operations, the fastest G4s outperform the fastest Pentiums. If you're a graphic designer or video editor, Mac is the way to go, hands down. If you're a programmer or gamer, you'll probably be just as happy with x86. However, for those of us who don't have the time to be mucking around with our equipment, the mac os is much easier to trouble shoot for software conflicts, and the layout of the os makes it much easier to know just what is in the system.
Here in Laguna Canyon there aren't as many people on the node, so I see download speeds as fast as 500kps on my cable connection. People just over the hill in Aliso Viejo get much less bandwidth as there are more accounts on those nodes.
Unfortunately, I rarely get anything over 50kps when I'm pushing out.
Seeing as the David Lynch version was a trainwreck, I had high hopes for the miniseries. However, after the first installment, I found myself pining for the movie version, which the miniseries borrows from liberally. I was under the impression that this was to remain true to the book. There were a number adjustments made to the story, and the Harkonnen takeover battle scene was pitiful.
On the plus side, the set design is adequate, and they did a good job with the worms. Here's hoping that it will improve with the next installment.
Today I downloaded Netscape 6. While using it on my G4 cube, I noticed that the disk was accessing without my doing anything with the machine. I turned on my MacTCP Watcher and noticed something funny.
When I access my home page with Netscape 4.76, I get this in the OT connection list:
TCP Listening echo 0.0.0.0:Any
TCP Established 1726 208.136.89.164:http
This makes sense to me (a networking novice) as I know my website's (which consists of a single gif image) webserver is at the above ip.
However, when I connect to the exact same website with Netscape 6, I get this list of connections:
TCP Listening echo 0.0.0.0:Any
TCP Established 49264 152.163.243.184:5190
TCP Established 49267 205.188.7.104:5190
TCP Established 49268 205.188.4.48:5190
TCP Established 49269 152.163.241.148:5190
None of these ips live at my isp or my web host.
Needless to say, there's something going on here, and I've decided to refrain from using Netscape 6 until I have an answer.
I'm hoping one of the gurus can figure this out for me.
Thank you.

That's the worst doctoring of a photograph I've seen this side of perezhilton.com.

But knowledge of the Absolute obliterates any person who may
