so, java as a language - it's ok java as a platform - SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I so agree. Java was designed and developed with programmers in mind, NOT sysadmins. It may be a great language to code, but my heart sinks every time I come across it wearing my sysadmin hat.

eg a search for Clint Eastwood turns up this sort of stuff:
Filmography-

Personally I rely on The All Movie Guide (http://www.allmovie.com/ much more, the writing is more mature and the information isn't diluted with crap you're not interested in.
A guy I used to work with was obsessed with the idea of augmenting his body with technology. Even went so far as to talk quite seriously about having his brain taken out of his skull and wired to machines as being the ultimate for him. Anyhoo, we were talking one day over lunch, and he was saying how neat it would be to have your brain wired to a mechanical hand, so all you had to do was think and the machine would move. I suggested to him what about having a computer wired into your hand, so you could program it to control your hand. He started getting excited at this, so I took it one step further - Hey! What if, ok, you took the wires from your brain and interfaced them with the wires in your hand! Then all you would have to do is think and your hand would just, like MOVE! He was practiacally wetting himself at this, jumping up and down in his chair, spilling lunch all over the place. The rest of the table were finding it hard to contain themselves as well.
I've been using Miranda for 6 months now on my work machine, and I've been very pleased with it. It just works, simple, un-bloated, and the UI doesn't look like the circus just rolled into town.
Sad to say it, but the only reason Russia signed was because it increases their chances of joining the WTO. There aren't any such compelling reasons for the US.
The one feature that has made the iPod what it is, is its original design. Apart from its looks and maybe the interface there is very little else that sets it apart from any similar products. Why is it only Apple that seem to be able to come up with anything original looking?
Apart from maybe the Olympus devices, the competition either play iPod wannabe, or fall back on the standard boring generic small electronic device look. How difficult can it be to hire some of the must be thousands of talented designers around and come up with something interesting?
Incidentally, the same can be said for the mobile phone industry which is devoid of interesting, innovative design. Apple could make a killing there in the same way if they wanted to.
They just need a little more focus from the various governments.
Of course this is the krux of it. The problem isn't that individuals carry on driving SUVs, or don't think about conserving power. The solution needs to happen top down. Big changes need to be made in the way we live, and this can only really happen when governments take the initiative.
But governments are reluctant to do anything about it because the results of any such legislation won't be 'voter visible' for a long time to come, and dare I say it, there's no buck to be made.
You obviously don't live in England. The rail infrastructure is so bad they have enough problems getting the trains to run on the rails let alone network traffic.

I saw this recently and thought how well it summed up Jobs' presentations, very funny:

And by a strange co-incidence most slashdot readers' interactions with women produce exactly opposite results.
From the article - Chase said he thought that Wikipedia was a "gag" Web site
So presumably he didn't think he needed to take it down?
There are other Bollywoods I didn't know about?
