His reason was that the U.S. left troops in Saudi Arabia after the first Iraq war and he wanted them out. Doesn't sound that insane to me. So how do we respond? Another Iraq war. Now that's crazy.
Old Macs, maybe.... I have a mini in my basement, and it works fine over VNC with nothing plugged into its video port.
It's only booting without a monitor that's the problem (once the Mac booted you can disconnect). This dongle tricks a Mac into believing a monitor is connected.
See the famous Star Wars Compendium of Lost Footage (the "Re-editing Star Wars" section) for details. Of course wanting to own the original mono sound mix is pretty hardcore;-)
Metropolis, directed by Fritz Lang, was a serious film which pondered the man/machine rift....
Have you seen the recent restoration? In Lang's original version, the film is less about man/machine than about workers/ruling class. There is also a love triangle, with the inventor obsessively re-creating Fredersen's wife Hel and using her to bring down Fredersen and his city. Unfortunately, Paramount hired playwright Channing Pollock to recut the original negative for the U.S. release, permanently losing about a quarter of the film's footage and chopping Metropolis into a simple Frankenstein story.
The sixth movie in the series also features Anakin's transformation into evil Darth Vader and his baby son, Luke, being smuggled to safety to the desert planet Tatooine.
Good idea, smuggle him to his father's home planet. Why didn't Lucas create a couple more places? It always struck me as ridiculous that he made Anakin come from Tatooine in Episode 1 (to say nothing of the whole Vader is also C3PO's father weirdness).
Since MT is written entirely in perl and other non-compiled languages, how hard could it possibly be to hack these limitations out of the free version?
There are no limitations coded in. The license works on the honor system.
There is a v3 free version for a single author/single blog, this is crippled from their current free version.
Crippled in terms of license, maybe, but their scheme works on the honor system. The software won't actually prevent you from creating more blogs or authors.
You could just use an old VCR, and hook up the audio in to your tuner or receiver, the audio out to your amp. Granted video tapes are more expensive than audio tapes, but you could reuse 'em.
And where do I send my money to buy a new copy of Bjork's "Telegram" (which I had on CD and lost and now have only the case it came in). That was a fan club release of which only a few hundred copies were ever distributed - so I guess I just never get to hear those songs again?

the exact words are important. playing fast and loose with the word of god is a slippery slope...
But the Bible has contradictory passages. Then there are books that some denominations consider to be canon, while others don't. There are different versions of some of the texts. Finally, there are mistranslations. It's not quite as easy as going by "what God said."
It was a one-man thing, and he couldn't do anything against the release of `Citizen Kane'....
Hearst managed to prevent Citizen Kane from being widely distributed when it was released. It wasn't generally recognized as a great picture until some twenty-five years later. It lost every Academy Award nomination except Best Screenplay, and was booed at the ceremony. Hearst convinced the FBI to investigate Welles, and leaked stories labelling him a Communist, homosexual, and adulterer. And Orson Welles never had full control over a movie again. He became a broken man who had to beg producers for money to make pictures. He even ended up appearing in TV commercials to make ends meet. You should watch The American Experience documentary that comes with the Kane DVD. You'll find Hearst had a great deal of power in his day.
He had a reason, but it's irrational and insane.

heh a bigger worry... would be nonstick cookware
There were some national news stories about the dangers of Teflon a while back. Cooking with a non-stick pan can kill your pet birds.
Janeway is a hottie. You can bet she could captain my Voyager inside her delta quadrant, if you catch my drift.
No kidding. I'd love to fire my tetryon beam into her quantum singularity!
That's pretty interesting, but there's a subtle difference between wired magazine (dead tree) and wired news (online).
It's not that subtle. They've been owned by different companies since 1998. Conde Naste owns Wired Magazine but Lycos owns Wired Digital.
There's also stockicons.com.
No. A blog is where one person makes journal entries, and other people read it.
According to Wikipedia, Slashdot is a blog. A blog needn't be personal. One of the most famous is Metafilter, which is also collaborative.
Slashdot doesn't do its own reporting. It just posts links and allows comments. That's exactly what most blogs are.
I agree. I have no love for Microsoft, but Office X is pretty speedy, even on my laptop.
I mean really, who reads these things?
You, apparently. What do you think Slashdot is?
...there's so much out there I'll never come close to running out of new stuff to listen to
Okay, I'll bite! Pop quiz: name ten non-RIAA-signed artists you discovered online. Ones that you like.
Have you been to any of their shows?

Also check out The Professor and the Madman: A Tale of Murder, Insanity, and the Making of The Oxford English Dictionary also by Simon Winchester which chronicles the contributions of Dr. W.C. Minor, a Civil War vet and murderer who provided thousands of entries for the OED while in an asylum.

Methinks you are mistaken.
Would you have heard of Bjork were it not for her label and distributors? Quick--name five great P2P-only artists!

Well, the important point is to get one that's specifically rated to protect media.
