Complaint: Too many meetings
Response: Meetings to discuss how to reduce the number of meetings
When I was assigned to the committee that would meet to discuss how to reduce the number of meetings I pointed out (repeatedly) that we could start reducing the number of meetings by cancelling the meetings to discuss how to reduce the number of meetings. I got tossed out of the committee.
Unsurprisingly, there was no useful result from those meetings.
Back in the day, when I worked at a Serious Company that took these things Seriously, we employees learned to give everything the top rating. That cut down on the inevitable bullshit that followed the survey, as management attempted to force us to fix whatever scored badly.
Politicians know voters are dumb - after all, look at who they've elected! So they know that the voters are dumb enough to think that the elected politicians will do anything to change the system that elected them in any real way.
I don't want to talk to you no more, you empty-headed animal food trough wiper! I fart in your general direction! Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!
Backblaze has some good points, but currently offers no way to see what's backed up or to do a restore through their client. You have to go through a web interface. Also, their retention policies don't match up with other vendors. But it is brain-dead simple to use, especially if you never need a restore.
I renewed my service days before this announcement and Code42 refused to refund my purchase. Changing the TOS with no notice and no chance to opt out should make Code42 vulnerable to a class action suit.
Also, if you run Windows 95 on modern hardware, it really kicks ass.
In other words, you can do a wide variety of dumb things to make your computer faster.
... the most disposable. Everything they do can be replaced easily.
Then comes Microsoft.
Facebook is a somewhat special case, in that they are irreplaceable at what they do, but what they do can be eliminated (and I often wonder if we'd be better off without them)
Amazon is like Facebook, except that what they do (or what we do via them - shop for stuff we need) isn't irreplaceable,
Google is on top of the pile, as they are how we find everything else.
Tomorrow, I might sort them differently.
...but...
Colleges should not be allowed to give scholarships for anything other than academics or financial need and still keep their tax-exempt status. The reason for hiring the best athletes (the reason for sports scholarships) is to make money. Since it's a for-profit enterprise, it should be taxed.
You already needed a Microsoft Account to install Office, so who really cares? For that matter, if you don't want MS to own you, why are you running Office? Or Windows?
PayPay is not the problem. eBay's fees are obscenely high and complicated, while Paypal's are only mildly usurious.
...in 3-2-1...

When your only competition is the clusterfsck that is the Android ecosystem, you get to cut back on design and QA to chase more profit.
Write your congresscritter. They could make a law to fix this, and they're elected, unlike FCC toadies.
You can AirPlay your music from your phone to your headphone-enabled iMac Pro. Win!

Paywalls are a short-sighted solution. Soon enough, even the Times will lose its remaining influence once it's only preaching to the converted.
You do understand that Slashdot is "Social Media", right?

I will hand my computer directly to the Russian Mafia before I let a Geek Squadder anywhere near it.

Why should I have to check for Backblaze backup client updates manually?

If there was speech recognition that was 99.9% accurate for me if I were to stuff my leg down my throat first, get me a bone saw.

Unobtrisive? You mean like "Taking up the first 3 results on any Search Results page? That 'unobtrusive'?

...and a 'mee too" for all the "I wouldn't be reading Slashdot if they didn't have a RSS feed" posts.
