I work for (I guess I should say DID work for as I'm on my two week notice...job laid off half of us last week) a small game company that makes free to play games for the PC. We have a loyal following but not NEARLY enough to entice advertisers in this economy into spending money for ads in our games.
We don't use the most recent engines. But we use a very stable and powerful one for what we do. And lemme just say that free gaming, while possible will never have the quality of a large budget console or pc game. Just not enough money to pay enough programmers/artists/testers...etc.
Yea, it's natural. So is taking a shit or piss. But you'd be pretty annoyed if I sat down randomly next to you in public and pitched a loaf next to you.

They owe no loyalty to anyone. They're a company and they exist to make money. As it stands, they're doing that. Also, I'd say it's not really that they've turned their backs -- the games aren't much different from the goofy stuff from the N64 or GC days. They just lost a lot of third party support after the GC took such a beating by the PS2, and haven't regained that. Their inhouse games -- Mario, Zelda, Metroid -- are still good. (Actually, I liked this generation Zelda *more* than I liked any since the SNES.)

So wow, five whole games. Fantastic...... Zelda was trash. Metroid was good. Didn't bother with Mario Kart this time around since I dislike nintendos online setup. I'd love to see: Pilotwings, Punchout, Fzero,Donkey Kong,..etc. But hey, wii sports 2 is coming.....
Yeah, ignoring the leader by miles -- great strategy. They should make PSP games, too, and not DS games -- right? So what if it wins?
That's my point, they're NOT the leader for 3rd party software sales. You can sell all the consoles in the world. Doesn't mean dick to a 3rd party company if said owners of the number 1 selling system barely buy games for it.
The reason the Wii isn't doing well with third party? They lost a lot of support over the previous two generations -- their fault, given the way they behaved toward developers in the past -- and nobody had anything big planned for the Wii. Then it took off and developers are either pushing out crap or working on something decent, or quietly praying the other two catch up.
That, and the hardware just CAN'T do the games they'd like to make. Some devs would rather not dummy down their games to run on the weakest console. But if a wii version of a game would sell better, they should.
The wii is a gamecube with motion controls. Hell, even the Xbox 1 was able to produce better looking(720p) and playing games. With the exception of SSBB. That game is great:)
The thing about the wii is that its using outdated hardware. And these non-gamers don't even know it. And if it doesn't bother them, good for them. I hope they have fun. For me? I know better. Just irritates me that Nintendo is going backwards. Never seen a damned system release for the "next generation" that was weaker than the previous gen.

Of course it's selling like hotcakes. It's the "hip" video games system to own for non-gamers. Which is cool. Nintendo is brilliant for turning their backs on the gamers that supported them for decades and designing games for grandma. They're also brilliant for releasing a "next gen" console with last gen hardware specs for 250. Means they make raw profit on every machine sold. And it works great because grandma and grandpa have no clue about how graphics or processing power can improve their gaming experience.
Real question is, what's the software attachment rate amongst the consoles? Hint: the wii is last in that regard. The thing is casual gamers are....casual. They buy one maybe two games a year. Hell, even of the more regular gamers I know, they have wii's for two games only. Mario and Smash. After that, there's nothing of interest to them. Grandpa buys a wii, gets wiifit, plays for a month and the wii collects dust after that. So, for third party developers, it's still better to make titles for a PS3 or 360. Much more likely to sell there.
But if that's what makes Nintendo profits, great for them! Bravo.
There shouldn't be a limit. Period. Companies need to upgrade their 10+ year old infrastructure before they even THINK about capping users. This is really irritating. And hell, I don't even download torrents. Not because I'm opposed to it, I just don't care enough to grab em all the time. I mainly just do alot of gaming (hosting) and netbrowsing/email. But I like to know that if I wanted, I could download whatever I wanted without a damned cap.

I can tell you first hand, that the right to bare arms has saved my life. Without it, I'd be dead right now. So I really disagree with the mostly liberal view that guns are bad 100% of the time. If you don't want a gun, don't own one. Personally, I love guns. It's some of the people using them that freak me out.
Thing is, criminals are going to use guns either way. You can ban law abiding people from using them...but do you think that's going to stop Johnny the Rapist from keeping one on him? 2. Make him do some community service (1000 hours or w/e)

Online gameplay is what's new. It's also what fans have been dreaming of in a GTA game for a LONG LONG time. Players tried modding the PC versions of previous GTA but it was always extremely buggy. Now, players can play a GTA game together. In a sandbox style game like this, the possibilities are endless. And it really reminds me what gaming really is about: Fun. Not about high scores, or getting "phat lewts"..etc
I can't wait to hop online into free roam mode and just run around with some buddies and have fun. It's going to be great.
