I work for an organization that uses Windows 2000 and IE6 primarily. Nobody around knows about Firefox, Safari, Opera, etc. We can't even 'upgrade' to IE7. As a web developer here, I tell them to start using Firefox and pages will miraculously render properly, and I explain how terrible IE6 is.
Their response: I just want to use what I'm used to.
There are still plenty of people who won't change. They expect things to work properly in IE6. We can't just stop the hacks and expect people to automatically know to change browsers. Even telling them that's the solution, they won't because people don't like change.
Assuming people are using Windows XP or higher.
At my workplace, everyone is using Windows 2000. IE6 all around.
As a web developer here, it's painful...painfully painful.
I agree completely. Lens clarity and overall quality is possible one of the most important aspects in photography. You can have 100 megapixels, but if your lens is cheaply made and doesn't allow accurate lighting through, then it's useless.
Think about the costs of renewing licences, or buying more if your company grows.
In the long run, I'd expect the FOSS setup to be cheaper, even if there is a high cost to migrate and train people.
My current employer is going to be 'upgrading' all the computers in the organization to Vista sometime in early 2009.
Not surprising to me, given the knowledge and competency of the IT group.
Go and (try to) install Vista on a machine that originally came with XP (pre-SP1) and see how much slower it is. Is that a fair test either? I think not.

Sex in public places.
Do you really think the type of people who want an invisibility cloak actually have sex at all, let alone in public places?
I'm thinking two words: Open Source.

According to their site, MakeMKV isn't available for Linux yet.

Why take the worst of the web and bring it to the desktop?
You must not have read the article. This is about JavaScript, not Flash.

The full decision
In case anyone wanted to read through it. I didn't see a link from TFA.
I'd be out of a job.
And Shampoo.
I'd rather just not be on the phone at all.
You won't be allowed to look at the cars in real life, as you can reproduce the image in your memory.
Mainly because the different departments were all sited in different places and none had the authority to do what needed to be done to sort it out.
I always thought this was standard among all customer service departments.
Oh, you must be new at this. This is the internet. People tend to complain about a lot.

As much as I love the Father Ted reference, that really doesn't have anything to do with this article.
That has nothing to do with speed.
You're not drinking fast enough.
That's what you get when you have the packaged delivered to your house.
Problem with most kids is, they are stupid.

I've seen so many people complaining for no other reason than that it's different.
Normally people would say RTFA, but in this case, it's right in the preview...
iGoogle users are reporting that widgets and themes are broken, Gmail attachments don't work, and valuable screen space is wasted.
It's more than just because it's different.
Oh, well in that case, not at all.
Both blink and marquee are two very useful tags that should be used on every website.
I disagree- I'd say that's a pretty standard Slashdot comment.
Expandable memory and any playable video format are features 99% of the population don't give a shit about? Hmm...
