The Nuremburg defense was that it was ok to do immoral things such as killing and torturing people in brutal ways. They were not trying to defend something that was pretty clearly defined as legal for them to do. It is ILLEGAL to sell and use drugs. Now I agree it should be legal, but it's not a constitutional right for it to be, you can make an argument that it may be illegal for the federal government to enforce it and make laws against it. But last time I checked most morality laws were created by states and counties. That is perfectly constitutional.

Hate to tell this to you, but it doesn't matter if everyone reccomends that people don't buy lexmark. The vast majority of lexmark printer sales are sub $50 printers that are bundled with computer systems. In fact I think dell still rebrands lexmarks. Therefore most of the people who get the printer "for free" just go buy the ink without thinking about the printer quality or getting a new printer. Lexmark is viciously pursuing this because most stores I've been to stick the refilled ink right next to the appropriate manufactures ink because they make more profit on the refilled. So if you're a untrained computer user and you go buy ink, do you buy the 30 dollar cart or the 10 dollar cart? When everyone starts buying the 10 dollar cart lexmark loses big because they have no highend printers like the other manufacturers that really do require the correct ink.

    Canon Pixma Printer Install

First thing you need to do is make sure that usb support is enabled in your kernel, it should be enabled with all stock kernels, but you can check by going to http://localhost:643/ and starting the add printer wizard after hooking up the printer. If it sees a canon printer towards the top of the list your set.
If not, well check the connections, make sure it's turned on and all that good stuff. If it's all good but cups doesn't see it, then you need to either upgrade your kernel and hope this time usb is enabled, or recompile it yourself which is a bit beyond the scope of this article
Cancel out of the wizard and goto canons Japanese ftp site ftp://download.canon.jp/pub/driver/bj/linux/ and get the following files
    bjfilter-pixusip-.rpm
    bjfilter-pixuisp-lprng-.rpm
    bjfilter-comon-.rpm

then check and make sure you have libxml, libtiff, and libpng by running
    yum install libxml
    yum install libtiff
    yum install libpng

    then install rpms with
    rpm -ivh bjfilter-common-.rpm
    rpm -ivh bjfilter-pixuisp--.rpm
    rpm -ivh bjfilter-pixuisp--lprng-.rpm

Then proceed to go back to http://localhost:643/ and rerun the add printer, select the canon printer, select canon manufacturer, then select the appropriate driver thats installed.
Print a test page and it should work.
