There was a time when the crowd would ostracize you for answering even number one as TRUE....

Before writing the "truthers" off as silly, try and think back to when you believed in Santa and you slowly changed your world view as the facts started piling up against the whole idea..
Exactly there are a lot of things that don't add up in the 9/11 "attacks". WTC 7, footage of the pentagon not being released due to "security reasons", bush's presedency one of the most secret in history, e-mails a year later being destroyed. There are plenty of reasons why this needs to be re-investigated again because what the government is telling us isn't %100 Fact and thats something I would bet my life on.
I mean come on when you have a cult like CoS this needs to come out. I can't believe youtube(which is owned by google) is allowing this sort of nonsense to continue. I can't support youtube any longer if they are going to continue to infringe on free speech, i suggest you all do the same.
and brings a lot to the table that Firefox requires extensions for
You say that like it is a bad thing. I prefer the use of extensions for my browser, instead of the bloatware that tends to happen. What if I don't care about privacy? I don't need that installed then. I like that I can choose the features I want, instead of having everything thrown in there.
Also, extensions have a great benefit with regards to updates. they can be updated at any time, and therefore don't have to wait on a new browser update for tweaking things and adding functionality. They also allow me to leave an extension that I don't want to update as is while still being able to update the browser (and possibly its security).
This is not to say that Firefox is not getting large, or that microsoft is not trying to assist people who don't have the savvy to look for extensions. I'm just saying extensions have a lot of benefits, and can be a very important tool.
This is one of the very many reasons I love using firefox because if i want something i can get it, if i don't then i don't have to worry about it bogging down my system. I love firefox because of this and will continue to use firefox. Now when I'm at work we use IE exclusevly so I'm really hoping that IE8 brings more to the table.
I'm going to take a wild guess that your military stationed in japan? If not sorry, anyways Germany is the same way with of course the few exceptions. Overall the german network is terrible I live in a city with a population around 110k+ people and the highest i've heard of anyone having is 10Mbps down. Of course i live on base and we get rapped by TKS (Deutsche Telekom) because they are the only provider who has cables running to our base. I pay 99 euro/month for 3Mbps/512Kbps (given the exchange rate atm that is around $150/month). So yeah I guess what i'm america still has a long way to go but it could be worse.
Naw that is just the way of the internet. If you want to see some serious trolls go take a look on the world of warcraft boards. I bet it's probably the most hostile forum on the internet (given all the keyloggers, spam, and general trolls it contains).
History is a pretty good example to use. Considering that WTC 1,2,7 are the first skyscrapers ever to collapse from a fire. Also pretty interesting considering WTC 7 didn't even get hit by anything... just somethings to think about.
Look at the price of iPod's, iPhone's, Mac Books, and their other products. They are selling them at an incredible profit. Not hard to see why apple is worth so much. As much as I hate apple I have to give them credit.
Probably because in some cases that is exactly what is happening. Speed limits in some areas are set unrealistically low. Local traffic is basically ignored at any speed. Out of state plates will be pulled over and ticketed, even though to be safe they should be flowing with traffic.
Traffic laws are also subject to politics. We don't get safety all the time. Sometimes it is just the perception of safety. Speed variance is a bigger killer than raw speed, but our speed limits are generally set lower than most drivers can handle. This results in one subset of the population doing the speed limit and the other subset of the population driving at a reasonable rate of speed for the road. So you'll get a spread of, say, 15 mph. A car going 75 is much more likely to hit a car doing 60 than it is to hit another car going 75. But we blame the speeders because they are speeding, rather than seeing that the system is stupid and dangerous.
This is what I've always believed to be the problem. When %90+ of the cars are driving at 75 MPH and the speed limit is 65 MPH it's the people who aren't keeping up with others that are causing the problem. Right now I'm in germany and from what I've seen their system works much better than what we have in the states. Of course though it is much more difficult to get your liscense here than it is in the states.
This is the usual air force way of doing things, trust me it will be a long time before AF cybercommand ever gets up and running. Also if they are running Thin clients those have been proven to be pretty secure on SIPRnet, also screw TACLANE's those things are expensive at $16k a pop and then not to mention the pain in the ass that it is to get the system keyed...shrug what do i know i'm just an airman
"From what I've read elsewhere the other day it seems though that drones have a 'hidden cost' attached to them, the people that control the drones get to see the result of their actions and they are having serious psychological issues as a result of that."
Do keep in mind that the Air Force culture outside the cockpit is _extremely_ corporate and pussified beyond belief. It's been so pussified for so long that many people don't know any different. (I did 26 years ending 2007, and know whereof I speak.)
No wonder a few sensitive whiners wig out.Solution is to move the whiners and give the job to people with combat perspective, and that means the Army and USMC. If we rotate people into UAV ops with ground controller experience, they will be better at understanding their jobs than if they spent their whole careers in pampered USAF conditions. (Apologies to the non-pampered USAF folks, but you know how the majority live.)
Hey i've seen army bases, I'll take my pampered air force thank you very much.
I know what you meant, but I still want to respond to what you said.
I am in the military, and I neither teach people to kill nor know how to kill with any unique expertise. In fact, I am so far removed from the killing process, I would probably be in trouble if someone came at me with a sharp looking spoon.
Guess what I'm also in the military and one way or another your actions no matter how small they are contribute to killing. I for example am a communications project manager for the air force. Now for example lets say there's a project for a new communications network for downrange warfighters...guess what that directly leads to troops being more effective in the war. Also even the people who serve you your food directly contribute to supporting the warfighter. So you may want to rethink your logic.
Why? They are by far the best devices out there. Invariably people who compain about the price are peopl that can't afford them. Well poor you and all that, but I, a fairly average person, can.
As to "vendor locked", that's freetard talk. Irrelevant to what I want. When I want the inferior crap that is Linux, I'll ask your advice, until then realise that it's only your preference, not a universal truth.
There is such a big difference between people who do it for the fun, and challenge, and those who do it for personal gain. I really wish the media would pick up on these differences. Me personally I enjoy the challenge, and find it to be fun, and I consider myself a hacker. Of course if I went around telling people that they would get this idea that "I'm the bad guy who wants to steal all of your personal information". They really need to do some investigative reporting to see that there are white hat hackers and black hat hackers...of course with media outlets such as fox news, cnn, msnbc, etc...they tend not to seek out the truth.
agreed the air force likes to remind you of this at all times, you know 0-0-1-3, and the whole wingman concept. See when you join the military they really do own your ass, lucky for me i have less than 2 years before my enlistment runs out.

Slashdot needs to add a spam mod.

You have Al Bundy quoted in your signature and for that I thank you :)
Yeah it's rare for us up north to live in houses with central air. Anyways I'll take the north over the south any day.
Man and I thought my iPhone bill was expensive...
