Perfect example! If the company was broken up into the OS group and the Application groups the apps group would have had this on iOS from the beginning. Money to be had by all.
The OS group would have had Windows on just about everything including ARM years ago as well.
Its interesting when you hear about countries and their uprisings the news talks about how they Twitter to get the word out and lately countries like Iran try to seize their internet so as not to allow these protesters to get the word out. With countries trying to control what is getting out to the real world the fall back position just might be old school Ham Radio.
Do it the old fashioned way... Ham radio operators have been communicating world events from one continent to another for decades. ( learn it for when twitter fails)

Meaning, we realized that we could attract some serious legal/legislative visibility by targeting areas where we have a near monopoly with a tiered pricing system.

15 years ago I saw a technology short by Apple showing a kid placing a sheet of paper on a tablet PC. The image was then transferred to the screen. Then she continued on with here homework.
After their PR-type response to Slashdot's questions and CmdrTaco's run-in, it just seems that they will not extend any human intervention into what goes on behind the scenes or allow any insight to the people who can talk some sense about this.
They seem to increasingly distance themselves, whoever they are, from the game.
Oh Well, it will eventually turn on them. There will be a time when enough of the players will turn their back on it due to its lack of response to the customer. Arbitrary rulings by GM's, lloooonnngggg queue times, etc.
I havent purchased any new games in the past 6 months simply because I have spent my limited gaming time on WoW and don't have the time to try new games. (havent seen anything that great anyhow.)
And three more cheers for Blizzard and their continued support for the Mac Platform!
Its been done already just not with the flourescent backlight but withwhite and RGB color LED backlighting. LED backlit LCD's with no flicker or fuzzy images have already been demo'd
Granted that the EV1 wasn't really ready for prime-time but GM continues to fall behind in alternative fuel technology. Typical that the largest US automaker will be the last to offer any alternatives to standard gas models
Sure, they will say they are continuing to invest in Fuel Cell and Electric cars but we continue to see Toyota take the lead with some very good Hybrid technology and Honda right behind. Ford uses the Toyota system.
I'm certainly not going to feel sorry for them when things get bad and they have no cars to offer as the Japenese continue to improve their Hybrid technology.
Even this news coverage seems slanted to make GM look bad on its stance for more fuel efficent cars. You think they would have handled it differently.
The classic silicon valley hacker/enthusiast vs. big corporate culture. It says alot (in a positive note) on the type of people who worked there and helped these guys along.
I've worked in a big company like Apple in the past and with the right people this just shows how far someone can really go in the most ideal situation. (not really needing a job in the short term)
I think that the costume is cool. Sure he might not be in the greatest of shape but as for time to do the costume...he simply chose to make a costume instead of the wasting the past 54 hours on UT2004.
I've seen some good ghostbuster costumes out there...near Halloween we should see more of these....help the fellow geek out and stop him from coming to the party as some reincarnation of "Revenge of the Nerds" Thats what would scratch my eyes out!
To coin a term used by someone else in the music industry. Although this FTC finding is more in line with a protectionist interest it still gets me mad that CD's today still go for $16.98 yet my Phantom Menace tape last month cost me $13.87. I believe that copying wouldn't be so prevalent if the prices were lower or we were paying for the Intellectual Property only and not for the media. (some remember VHS video tapes at $69.95 for a movie) Also, how come Metallica wants MP3 be financially liable for every person who copied a song (Millions of $$$) but the industry cannot be held liable for the $480 million that they have deprived the public of?
There will always be some restrictions by certain nations on free speech, liberties, and the like. But what about the language?
Right now some countries are complaining about how english-centric the web is. We will be seeing more of spanish ( http://www.Quepasa.com ), Chinese, Japenese, German ( http://www.suse.de ), and the like.
Maybe this will provide the stimulis that the Europeans have on learning more than one language. With them is has always been the proximity of the different countries and lanquages. Now it is being brought right to our computer screen.
I think that gaming platforms should be thought of as embedded systems. I believe that bringing a rehash of the desktop environment coupled with an embedded OS to the gaming environment would not provide the best performance/platform that would appeal to users.
Although WinCE 3.0 is touted as real-time, it is still very new and I would have doubts about its viability in a real-time gaming environment. There is no tolerance for the "blue screen of death" in a gaming platform.
The designers of the PX2 and Nintendo have had the "application" in mind since the very beginning of the design cycle in order to provide the best performance/environment in which to play games. The winCE/x-box scenario has not been built with that in mind and I believe would fail in its attempt to provide a state of the art console. (Of course it could be just an attempt to completely control the hardware of the home PC market.)
I recall an inverview with a M$ representative about the Palm vs. WinCE machines discussing how with the Palm you could not write long emails with it. He completely missed the application for which the Palm was intended. I think the same will occur with the x-box.

"You can't stop the signal"
This is just Steve Jobs creating an "appliance". He has tried to implement this before on a general computing type of plaform with failure.
The iPAD is probably a better fit for it. And yes, Mac OS X would definitely not be held to that type of closure.
Move along, nothing to see here.... Buy the appliance or buy a laptop.
Do it the old fashioned way... Ham radio operators have been communicating world events from one continent to another for decades. ( learn it for when twitter fails)
Absolutely! I think of exactly the same thing when I think about robotics and war. Especially the the self-upgrading one!

They've had this vision for a LONG time.
Thats the funniest one yet. Kudo's to the anonymous coward.
(yea, I'm a mac too)
I think they deserve the grief just for giving us those damn PR-type responses to our submitted questions.

Yes! Here! Here!
Most appreciative of the Mac port. Good to see Blizzard delivering games for the Mac.

Or maybe the Milky Way is moving away from the sun at 75 Million Miles/second and the sun is moving away from the galaxy at 75 Million Mps.
Intersting that there is no mention of any acceleration, just a constant velocity.
And why are we using Miles anyways?
