"In 1985, while working at Honeywellâ(TM)s Physical Sciences Center, David Rafner first described a drive-based DVR designed for home TV recording, time-slipping, and skipping commercials. U.S. Patent 4,972,396 focused on a multi-channel design to allow simultaneous independent recording and playback. I think too many people are confusing the concept of legal marriage which is basically a communing of resources most likely under the precept of having and raising children, with their own personal concept of religious marriage combined with western romanticism, for thousands of years people have married for a variety of purposes, most of them having little to do with love. It just so happens that most of us here on /. live in a society that allows for both sexes to make their own way and therefore gives most us the luxury of choosing our "life-mate" based on whether we like them or not. As opposed to: whoever can pay the most in dowry or to unify two families for the purpose of business or for the purpose of politics.
