it seems to me that if you are paying a monthly subscription to play a MMORPG you should have some say in the administration and changes to the game. after all you have a lot at stake in it, monetarily and time spent. why aren't more of these MMORPG companies allowing for more democracy? i for one would be pissed if an update broke my months of time and money spent developing my character etc. furthermore i think the introduction of a little democracy could very well make it more interesting.
The democracy lies in that if you are dissatisfied with the product, and your expression of that dissatisfaction goes unheeded by the developers, you can stop sending them money.;)
downhillbattle.org is not a credible source. Nice try googling. Give it another shot. And you've managed to sidestep the parental post completely. It doesn't matter how big of a percentage per song. It matters how much cash per song. Even if your googletistic is correct, the record labels are taking 65% of 99 cents. Do you think the artist is seeing any of that?
Best Buy sells their CDs below cost, by the way, as a loss leader to get people into their stores, so that's not the stellar example you wish it were. Check out Record Contract Basics for more detail. The band is lucky to see $1 on a full-priced %16.98 sold at retail.
Bottom line, if you want to support the artists, attend their concerts and buy merchandise straight from them -- that's the only way they see any reasonable amount of money.
Steve is pissing off the owners of the music he sells (talking bad about them in the press over and over is a big mistake), and they are ACTIVELY looking to others to replace him. He is giving them money now, but others can do that, all he has done is effectively made enemies of the companies he relies on to make the iPod a success.
Nice troll, dude, but you conveniently left out the reason they're pissed off at him -- because they want to raise the prices of the music downloads, and Apple refuses to. If he were motivated by greed in this instance, he'd jump all over that and get a bigger piece of the pie.
Frankly, they could take a portion of that $45 million cost savings and dedicate it to making those blind- and deaf-user devices work swimmingly with OOo.... and still have enough to pay Manny Ramirez's salary next season, assuming he doesn't get himself traded to the Angels before then.;)

Lack of Microsoft choice = bad Lack of Apple choice = brilliant
Uh, in slashdot land? How about in monopoly land? Let me know when Apple has 95% desktop computer market share and is a convicted monopolist with a track record of predatory practices. Then we can talk about the relative problems with Apple's lack of choice.

We care deeply about our community and definitely want to keep our World of Warcraft gamers updated, but the development and refinement of our games take first priority.
This is meaningless, but we have to pretend to care so you will keep giving us money.
However, we do our best to keep the community up to date with regular updates such as the World of Warcraft "Battle Plan," as well as interviews with various news organizations such as this one.
Our marketing drones send marketing blurbs to marketing-friendly news outlets, where they give us free publicity.
Every company has a different way of reaching out to the community and we feel that the World of Warcraft community site is a great way to keep gamers up to date and informed about every aspect of World of Warcraft.
The website is a place we can funnel the people who give us money so they can help each other out and save us on tech support costs.
The forums are also a great place for gamers to express their opinions and give feedback about the game.
Not that we will pay attention to it. But feel free to post away!

Erm, isn't that demand?

ummm, HELLO!!!
I was agreeing with the grandparent. Try and keep up, okay?
I think it was the press more than Novell, but they sure didn't mind mentioning it in passing as early as 2001 -- and that was version 7.1!
So, I take it you're sticking it to the proprietary shift and period key companies too?

They're funny, just not 'ha ha' funny.
I'd venture to say they're 'ja ja' funny, but that wouldn't be funny.

I think his server was down last night, but is back up now -- plus he's got them updated for the new beta.
