    They already have them. They are used to see bad guys in the dark. I bought a FLIR entry level model for $30K about 5 years ago and the salesman demonstrated that you could rotate the unit upside down and the image retained it's real up/down orientation. That feature was added at the request of police so they could hold it upside down over their heads and still see the correct orientation. He said they had sold hundreds to the police. I understand you can buy them used on ebay for $3k now.

    You don't see many English majors making predator drones because they don't know how.

    As an ME, my first thought about the pants bomber was how wrong it was done. Who wants to blow up an arriving airplane? Get one all full of fuel for a long trip that will make a much bigger bang. If the operative (obviously NOT an engineer) managed to get a bomb onboard undetected he should deliver it to an accomplice departing from the same concourse who has already passed screening. He can then blow up a departing flight. And don't try to blow your dick off, press the device firmly over decking that covers fuel or control lines.

    I suspect that a lot of us who were aware of what was happening were afraid to band together. The government made it quite clear they had no qualms imprisoning and torturing US citizens. And we know that we were (are) all under surveillance.

    Howcome there is no requirement for mandatory drug testing, including especially steroid use, of police? From what I see on the web it looks like steroid or amphetamine rage to me.

    Well, I don't know about the "internet", but the www has a positive buoyancy at earth normal pressure, due to the huge amount of hydrogen generated by the flatulence of most of the posts, such as this one. And really, how many web pages have you seen that were actually just crap? ; it all adds up. I say it is floating up in the ozone layer and blocking enough solar radiation to counteract global warming due to data center cooling.

    The problem is that as the number of participants declines, so will the amount of material "published". The "must remain unspoken" is a good example, as any nntp client will show.

    Sorry, seems I'm not logged in, but any idea how much their commission normally is? I once worked for a placement firm for $45/h and I incorporated and worked directly for $110/h but several years later.

    FWIW, here in South Carolina, kids can get a beginners permit at 14. They can only drive with a licensed driver on board and I think that driver has to be at least 21.

    FWIW, someone at work recently handed me a 3.5 floppy. I couldn't find a computer with a drive anywhere in the office so I bought a USB floppy at Microcenter for $20. Thought I should buy a box of disks but they didn't have any.Do thy still make 3.5 floppy disks? I didn't see any 5.25 or 8" USB drives.

    You do know that a patent doesn't prevent you from building and using a patented device? You just can't sell them. In fact, making the information available was the reason for patents.

    If you are in the bio tech field then all of your processes need to conform to ISO13485. There is a section specifically about software. Your company won't be in an FDA/CE regulated environment long unless you comply with those quality standards. I suggest you research the guidelines and point them out to your quality manager.

    The material you remember was "Metglass" and was made by Allied Chemical Corp. ,which became Allied Signal Corp. I don't know if it was ever produced commercially. The process as I recall was to quench thin sheets of molten metal in liquid nitrogen. to "freeze" it in an amorphic state. I was an engineer at one of their chemical plants at the time, not a materials scientist, so what I remember is from the in house announcements and literature.
