You will have to tell that to my GeforceFX5900 and Unified Nvidia Driver that has full support for all the functions you speak of via nvidia cg or via another none ARB rendering path. Now...since there is only one other chip maker that is making a card with PS2.0 (as people like to call it) that would be ATI...you only in turn have one company not supporting the technology they would need in linux. ATI has always been a joke in the 3d market with Linux so this is nothing new and Nvidia has a greater market share of high end 3d cards in both the Windows and the Linux market....so who cares?

They could have easily written that engine using OpenGL and had a VERY portable engine. But naw...they are getting some luvin from MS and ATI, so what do you expect.

This probably means that they have brought portage over to the PS2 Linux kit. The PS2 Linux kit uses a version of the 2.0.x kernel redone for the MIPS processor in the PS2. If they brought portage over (which is what Gentoo is) then you get the power of portage on the system you are already familiar with, just like what the Gentoo team is doing with Mac OS X. Gentoo on OSX != Mac OS X running some new kernel or something, just means you get the power of Portage for getting apps and depenedencies and what not.

Nintendo has feared that this was coming since they decided to create the Gamecube. They saw that more and more we are only getting sequal's and games with a Disney license since they are a sure fire seller. In response to this the former President of Nintendo (the mighty and wise Hiroshi Yamauchi) started a little project called the QFund. It has multiple purpose's, but one of them is to promote the idea of less expensive development (Nintendo has been doing numerous internal things to drop their production costs). The QFund has a few restrictions on it that help to this point. First of all any project gets money from QFund must finish the game in one year. If they go past that point they can loss funding. They also must use GBA connectivity. Some might claim that is a gimmick to get more people using that for Nintendo, but some of us believe this could actually lead to some real innovations :P
