  1. Language on Wind Power Firm Sees No Evidence of Hack · · Score: 3, Interesting

If you look at the screenshots he posted (example) you'll see that some of the screens were in the German language or a derivative thereof. Why would a New Mexican power plant have its systems in German!?

  6. Emulators? on Source Code of Several Atari 7800 Games Released · · Score: 0

Is there a point to this besides just ooh-and-aahing over it? It looks like there are several 7800 emulators out there; could these projects build off the code and use it to design their own games? That would be a really cool model for other manufacturers to follow (ahem, Nintendo)...

If it's expensive nobody will buy it. Regardless of how well it works. For example, if the prius cost $80k the environmentalists wouldn't even buy it. I think that these enviro-tech things just have a zero shot at catching on if they are too damn expensive. Just a thought.

Of course we couldn't do that! Imagine:

If the government actually TOLD people what they were spending TAXPAYER money on, how on earth could they ever buy things just because they can? The entire American system of government would just collapse. :) BTW, wasn't Vivek Kundra investigated by the FBI a while back?

  14. Re:Car analogy! on 100 Million Used Games Traded Each Year In the US · · Score: 0
The difference between used cars and used video games is the 'retention' of customers, if you will. If I buy a '93 Escort from the local used car dealer, and the muffler needs replacing, I have three options:
    • Go to the local ford dealer and have it serviced with FORD parts
    • Go to a third party and have it serviced with FORD parts
    • Go to the aforementioned third party and have it replaced with an aftermarket part - the maker of which had to pay Ford for the plans, rights, and maybe even royalties. The same conditions don't exist with video games, at least not yet.
