First let me start by saying, I am not a health nut. I am only speaking from my personal experience, and what worked best for me. I'm certainly not saying *never eat fatty foods, like nachos, cheese, etc. ..* Most people however cannot have just one hotdog or just one piece of cheese. Also the issue that I have with the Atkin's diet, is the cholesterol problem. What's your cholesterol levels like? Eating like this everyday will eventually kill you. Look at your cholesterol levels. If they are not affected yet, after years on this eating program they will be.
Losing 70 pounds in 5 months is not good for your body. It is widely accepted that 2 pounds per week is the most that you want to lose. You sir are losing 3.5 which is almost double the recommended amount.
What is going to happen is when you finally go back to eating normally you are going to put most of this weight back on. Rapid weight lose tends to lead to weight gain when you finally attempt to eat more normally.
Before you say my diet sucks, or I'm an idiot, back it up with something worth while.
I could eat nothing but tofu for 5 months and lose 70 pounds, would it be good for? That's another question.
Humans by nature are omnivores and thus need a healthy mix of both meat, grains, vegies and fruits.
When you die of heart disease or high blood pressure don't come crying to me.
Weight lose is an easy concept. It's the will power that is tougher.
If you want to lose weight you simply need to eat less then you are eating. It's that simple.
Here are two easy ways to lose weight.
1. Grab yourself a pen and a small notebook. Keep track of everything you put in your mouth. Write down it's name, the time, as well as how many calories.
Total it up at the end of the day. That's how much you need to eat to maintane your current weight.
Now you are 280 pounds? You want to lose weight? Well you don't want to lose more then 2 pounds a week it's not healthy so here is all you need to do. Eat 1500 calories a day. Break it into 3 meals. Do what works for you. I found that 400 for breakfast provided a large bowl of cerial with skim or soy milk. 500 calories provided 2 pieces of skinless boneless white meat chicken. And some salad with low cal dressing as well as a piece of bread. And for dinner you can have 600 hundred calories. So make pasta and measure out your portion or whatever works. Be creative.
So you have a total of 1500 calories. If you stick with this you will get good at making larger meals in fewer calories.
2. So you maybe you are not into counting calories, well here's another easy one. When you make food, make a lot of vegies. Now take your plate. Fill half your plate with vegies. Fill a quater with with your meat, and fill a quater with your grain/pasta/side whatever. If you are still hungry and want seconds ONLY IT ANOTHER PLATE OF VEGIES. Now don't be rediculous, you can't have butter, etc on them, so get creative. It's not hard.
You must be willing to stick to this and for gods sake you must learn to cook, at least a little bit. Late night burritos and a slurpie are not an option. There really is no mircle diet, just quit putting so much in your mouth.
If you do want to still be able to eat a lot you do have a third option, you better get off your fat ass and exercise. Lift weights, run, etc. . . And I'm talking a couple hours a day. Then you could probably eat whatever you want because your body will burn it off. But for most people they simply won't exercise.
I went from 280 to 180 in about a years time with little exercise by simply eating 1500 calories. My blood pressure dropped to a perfectly normal level, I feel great, and I have tons more energy. I fall off the wagon once in a while, but I don't worry about because now that I am smaller I am more active.
Trust me guys this is not hard. You must stick to it. It's that simple.
Gilmore says it best about what ICANN is now a days in his letter to the director -

"I have absolutely no idea what you are doing leading that megalomaniac, unaccountable, unresponsive, anti-expression, anti-public-interest organization."
I thought the 2.4.19 was just a normal slashdot typo, but it appears that they are listing 2.4.19 on their website.
" YDL 2.3 surpasses YDL 2.2 with an array of timely updates, improvements: kernel 2.4.19, the 'Liquid' theme, CUPS print system, apt-get, OpenOffice 1.0, Mozilla 0.9.9, Galeon 1.2, Evolution 1.0.5, AbiWord 1.0.2, netatalk 1.5.3.1, and support for the Radeon 7500 (excluding 'Mobility') video card. "
Perhaps they have a typo or they are running a beta kernel or something. . . Could be they just have a typo on the site and let it alone to generate more interest in their distro?
Apparently you can sponsor ICANN, they use this money for meetings, etc. ..
Here's the levels from their site -
Three Levels of Sponsorship are available:
Top Level: US$15,000 Second Level: US$10,000 Third Level: US$5,000
My question is who in their right mind is sponsoring them? Normally a sponsorship would give you a little bit of influence, and ICANN seems to do whatever the hell they want. So the question is why would you sponsor these guys?

If you want privacy stay away from technology and be vigilent.
Get ride of the cell phone, unplug from the internet, hell get ride of the computer, since cash is still not tracked (just yet. ..), pay with cash.
Don't buy a new car with a gps locator, don't take loans. No debt cards, no bank account. Wear gloves, no finger prints.
This can go on and on depending on how paranoid you are.
The thing is most of us want the convience of the technology and thus we are willing to give up little bits and pieces of information about ourselves here or there. To the grocery store, to the bank, to the piggies, etc. . .
I am a big listener to a band by the name of KMFDM. They are not huge by any means, but I'm sure many of you have heard of them.
I have seen many bands in concert, however I have never seen KMFDM live.
What did I do next?
Did I wait for the radio to tell me when they were coming to town? No, I'd still be waiting.
I grabbed a local free magazine (I assume most major cities have this things), called "The City Paper." They have a listing for all the happenings at local clubs including live bands. I did not see a listing for KMFDM in the near future.
So I went and tracked down their website. And lone behold they are coming to my home town June 23rd.
I then ran down to the local club and bought a ticket for $17.
How hard was that? I have never heard this band played on the radio, and yet I still discovered them, as well as when they were coming to play live in my home city.
I for one don't honestly care if the music crashes, burns and dies a slow and painful death. I will still be able to come accross new and interesting bands.
No matter what the shit will sink to the bottom and the cream will find a way to the top. It doesn't matter if we have radio, internet, or print to advertise. Simple word of mouth goes along way.
Would anyone be interested in setting up a free wireless network in the North Side of Pittsburgh? I know that there is some wireless zone somewhere in downtown pittsburgh, but that's out of reach from where I am.
Let me know if anyone is in the area, maybe we could get something going.
You can message me here or email me at the above domain. Use my slashdot username @ domain.:-)
I've ordered from Pitsco and it was a wonderful experience. I needed a serial IR tower because the 2.0 mindstorm set comes with a usb, which is hard to get working under linux (alpha drivers only).
I went to their website, ordered it and with in a few days I had it in my hands.:-)
If the people running this do decide to thumb their noses at everyone, move the servers to this island and continue to do what they'd like, they better not live in the US, because they are still liable and will be hauled into court.
So the owners better move with the equipment if this is the route they are planning on taking.
*no where in the article did it say these things, this is just a hypothetical situation*
Here's the problem that I see. Even if this bill passes it is only the first step in the grand scheme.
The bill would offer -
$50,000,000 for fiscal year 2003. $200,000,000 for fiscal year 2004.
This would be used for planning, etc. . . This is only a small fraction of what it is going to take to develop the needed equipment/technology to get there.
They are shooting for 2020? Even if this bill does pass that leaves 16 more years for congress to de-rail or bury this project in favor of something else (see military spending, tax breaks, etc. ..).
I agree that this bill is a start, but it certainly doesn't offer a lot in the way of a long term commitment from the American government. If only there was a way to get a president involved maybe he could get the American people excited about the space program again.
"While the threat to Earth's ecosystem from the release of Martian biological agents is very low, the risk of harmful effects is not zero and cannot be ignored,"
Wouldn't the atomosphere burn off anything that would be on the outside of the ship? And isn't the ship air-tight?
So couldn't we just put the shuttle and crew into some kind of clean space hanger building and just quarantine/clean them?
With minimum risk I think this would be an acceptable alternative, as opposed to impeeding the progress of a mars mission.
This article is light on details but does mention that all of these systems that they are working on are two-staged.
At first you may think that two-staged launches are a waste of money, but some of it does at least look promising.
The design from Boeing is an interesting one. It looks like a smaller shuttle attached to a jumbo jet. It's then flown near the limits of space where the top ship would then come apart and finish it's journey into space on it's own.
The jumbo jet would then return to the launch site.
I must admit that I would love to see a 1 stage space craft.:-)
I got sick of all the spam, all the chain letters and all of the virus's. So I decided to run my own small mail server. I changed my email address and only gave it to people that would not open foolish attachment, and would not forward crap on to me.
Running linux the virus's aren't a problem, but downloading and the wadding through hundreds of emails sucked.
I then use procmail along with spam assassion. Now when I check my email there is usually one or two messages, and they are relivent.
Even the mailing lists I'm subsribed to get put in a sepereate folder.
I can't complain at all anymore.
What about those less the brillent friends that are still affected? Well I leave icq and aim running so they can just leave me a message that way.:-)
Hey if my mother can avoid getting infected with these stupid virus's so can you!

Interesting article to read, but this is kinda of an obvious thing.
You need to make as many social connections as you can. This is especially important in business and when working within a large corporation.
If the government wants control so bad why don't they do what they normally would do and just kill the guy?

I think this definately applies to all you to poor to pay for a website that you love.
I think it's more a matter that you just don't want to pay, which I can understand, but come on man don't delude yourself if that's the case.
apt-get install apache
Then some minor and I mean minor configuration and you have a webserver that is more robust and secure then IIS.
You need php support?
apt-get install php4
Follow installation script.
Man that's hard!
