Damn straight! Make those bastard unborn generations pay the Chinese and Saudis back all the money your borrowing from them to run your government, nationalise banks and wage pointless wars...your keeping what's yours right?
You have no choice, taxes in your country must go up, 8 years of drunken spending have seen to that.
Or you could stop spending...the oversized military budget and multiple wars would be a good place to start (lol yeah right).
The US is soon going to find out something every major country has found out since the dawn of time, guns or butter, never both.
The US is *bloody broken* after 8 years of "conservative" rule, including six years of absolute power, something the "liberals" haven't had for 30 years or so.
Whether liberals are better or not i don't really know. What I do know is of course the average person is going to be pissed at "conservatives". They've sent the US spiraling downwards in a way not seen since...well the beginning of the end of the Soviet empire.
In any case I spend a lot of time on this site and am rabidly moderate and in reality it's about 50-50 liberal/conservative these days. 8 years ago it was a little more slanted, though then it seemed to be wide eyed radical libertarianism that dominated here.
The funny thing is, and I keep noticing it every single time a "conservative" posts, they always whine on about how they'll be modded down by the "liberal whatever", etc etc. But get modded up at about the same rate as anyone else! You lot really seem to a have a *major* persecution complex which is bloody BIZARRE given that it's your party that's been running the US and setting the political discourse for nearly a decade.
You really are all starting to sound like a bunch of bloody whingers.
Man up.
P.S Current US "conservatives" seem more like ultra radical idealists than anything related to conservatism but whatever.
LOL all this coming from someone who lives in a country that's just nationalised half of it's finance industry. People from the USA calling out other people for being socialists are displaying the worst case of cognitive dissonance possible, actually delusional, is probably the more correct term..
Even at the hight of our "socialist experiment" in the '70s we didn't dare touch the banks.
Oh delusional yanks, it wouldn't be so bad if so many of you weren't so blindingly hypocritical.
"Well, unfortunately it's a bit like the problem with conspiracy theories: anything that needs the complete cooperation of thousands to keep a secret, isn't going to really stay a secret."
Sooo...there's no such thing as secret military weapons development and programmes, and *definately* no state secrets. Every one knows the exact inner workings of every aspect of the CIA and NSA, the exact recipe for Coke and millions of other major trade secrets across the world aren't secrets either.
Also Germany must have known the exact details of the D-day landings, and France and the rest of the world had intimate knowledge of Germanys plan to invade, date, time and all! Cause like you said all those hundreds of thousands of men involved in the preparation of those operations couldn't possibly have kept the details of it to themselves...right?
Rabid anti-conspiracy theorists are on the opposite side of exactly the same bent coin as rabidly pro-conspiracy theorists, both are living in a demonstrable fantasy world. It's not hard to protect a secret, everyone does it many times a day one way or another. I'd say that in general, the tiny piece of the puzzle that one person is exposed to is meaningless to them and even if they did tell everyone, who would listen?
"It gets more TORQUE than the equivalent diesel as well-280 to be exact"
I've seen a 2.4 litre turbo diesel dynoed at 400hp, what's your point here? What's the "equivalent diesel"? You don't think that those HP number you have are the maximum possibly achievable for EITHER engine do you?? Surely a man of your *obvious* in depth knowledge of internal combustion engines would know better than that.
"The "torque" mystique of diesel engines is a marketing ploy, as any torque engineered into a diesel can also be engineered into the equivalent gas model."
LOL do you even know how a diesel engine works?? Here's a little lesson my technically challenged friend, Diesel 101:
Diesels make more torque, not because you're ignorant and un-knowledgable, but, ready..it's really simple, a diesels compression ratio is about twice that of a petrol engine. This is the reason diesel engines have been used as power plants for industry for 100 years because they making stonking amounts of torque at LOW RPM.
A list to help! Because lists are helpful in the war against idiocy: - Diesels run at least 20:1 compression, petrol ~12.5-13:1 - Diesel itself contains more energy than gasoline, - When a diesel engine fires it creates more torque than an equivalent petrol engine due to the simple FACT that the fuel/air mixture has been compressed about twice as much. - Diesels are lean burn engines, you can run them as lean as possible at any given time making them very efficient, petrol engines die very quick deaths if run lean. - It's basic fucking physics!
Why is your ignorant confused ridiculous bullshit being modded up?? Diesels are far more efficient internal combustion engines than petrol engines. Petrol engines will always be limited by the unstable nature of gasoline which prevents them running compression any higher than ~13:1. There is no debate about this, only the most confused, ill informed rice-boy wannabee would BE confused about this. To get around the low compression limitation in a petrol engine you make it rev, that's easy lots of revs = more power, except high RPM power is totally fucking useless for 99.9999999% of the time the car's being driven. It's great for a track car, useless for a commuter car. Not to mention the hugely accelerated mechanical wear high revving engines contend with and CRAP fuel consumption.
Oh and your comparing a family car to a friggen SPORTS car ya bloody idiot, the equivalent Mazda makes 150Hp.
Good god, talk about falling for Mazdas marketing hype.
Oh and the highest power ICE engine in the world is a Diesel, 108820 HP at 102 RPM, oh my bad, I guess that's just marketing hype.
Yes, TV is very representative of reality at any given time.
This vitriol is reserved for the most selfish, shortsighted FOOLS who run around these sites.
You are a hypocrite because you whinge about things like a PRIVATE company running a daycare for employees as though it's "socialism" (because people who work there who don't have kids have no choice about working there do they?). But one day, you'll become a burden on the rest of society, it's INEVITABLE. And when that day comes it'll be everyone elses kids that shoulder you and carry you until the day you die. But don't worry about it, the vaaaast majority of us in larger society are willing to accept that to make a society run you have to give a little. And that there's always going to be a tiny minority of greedy short sighted fools who'll give as little as possible, whinge about what they do have to give...until it's time for them to take, then as far as they're concerned they're getting what they deserve.
To put it into purely economic terms for you, those of us who have kids are shouldering an enourmous burden financially and socially that EVERYONE (that includes YOU) are going to benefit enormously from in the coming decades. It's you who is indebted to me, not the other way around. But don't worry about it, I wont make a big deal about it, that's what civilised society is all about, a bit of give and a bit of take.
99% of the population seems to get this idea, why is it so under-represented on this site?
You're going to lecture about how life works when you live in a delusion of what things were like in the 1950s?? There was no such thing as the contraceptive pill in the 1950s you IDIOT. Women got pregnant whether they liked it or not, abortion was illegal and MARRIED MEN didn't wear condoms.
As for the rest of your post, yeah it's MORE ethical to have a belief system that requires parents to give up their children for adoption than expect society at large to help them pull up the slack a bit. Of course a rugged individualist such as yourself will surely commit suicide the *moment* you become a burden on anyone else. Like when you get old and expect those "other people kids" to wipe your arse and feed you your mushed up baby food.
Your beliefs and mindset do not match up to any society that has ever existed, and never will.
Nice attempt to socialise the ideal of private business though, if the owners of a business want to have a daycare then who the fuck are you to tell them otherwise. And tell me oh please, how other employees are paying for the daycare? Because i jsut assumed you know, that it was the shareholders paying for it...you know the people who OWN the company. If you don't like it, get a job elsewhere, you agreed to your conditions of employment and the pay rate and benefits (or lack of if your childless).
Sorry, to all you childless bachelors out there, but my loyalty lies 110% to my son and family not to you or anybody else outside my family, I already have precious little time with him as is, I don't care if you or management or *anyone else* thinks I'm a team player or not, truly. I do my contracted work, take my pay then I'm outta there.
It does go both ways as well. People without kids bitch that people with kids leave when their child is sick (you know, to be *parents*) or whatever, but then people without kids want to work their lives away, then expect us to as well? Sorry if your to spineless to stand up to your boss that's YOUR problem, no one elses. Otherwise you enjoy doing it, and well if you expect me to work late and have my boy miss out on seeing his old man before bed because you have nothing better to do than work for an extra few hours you can fuck right off.
The worst thing here, is that the 90% of people complaining about "people with kids" statistically, in a a few years when they grow up will BE "people with kids". Then will understand, not through a selfish hypocritical flip-flop, but because when that little tacker comes along you have *no choice* as your brain changes and with it your priorities, whether you like it or not.
And we *people with kids* were all just like you once, I even used to bitch about *people with kids*, just like you.
Ironically all the people without kids bitching here will then bitch about how people don't, you know, "be a parent" to their kids in the multitude of other stories regarding kids. Well I'll tell ya it's a little hard when you all expect us to forget about them for 8-12 hours a day and see them awake for twenty minutes, because we know how much your going to cry because you choose to marry your job/company and we treat it like a means to an end and leave on time.
The same plants that could have been fed directly to vegetarians
I can just imagine it now, all the smug bohemian inner city vegetarians eating grass and hay, oh and you can't cook it that'll increase your carbon footprint!
You did know that cows eat grass and hay didn't you? I've also seen them eating thistles.
Btw, here in Australia it's RICE that is the cause of the biggest environmental catastrophe, the irrigation needed for it has drained the Murray Darling basin dry.
So if your a vego and eat Sunrice or any Australian brand of rice, congratulations, you've contributed to the greatest environmental disaster in this country since European settlement.
Most of our cattle is located in the desert, good luck growing crops out there.
When she started out she spent $40 a month on adwords ads. That $40 a month brought in at least three of four customers a month every month, totalling $400+ worth of cakes, per month every month she had adwords up.
She built her business upon $40 a month worth of adwords, then she put an ad in the yellowpages, it cost a few thousand, but her business boomed.
I'd say advertising works pretty damned well actually and there's a hell of a lot of people on the internet who do actually use the ads.
You see, it's just not a religious issue for most people as it seems to be to so many here. I think it's mostly because in general people have this funny thing called a life and the moral, economic and political ramifications of some tiny little ads on the interwebs is not something 99.9999% of the population could care less about. In general people dont get upset because there's a graphic taking up a small portion of a webpage, often they'll even click on it if its useful.
The general attitude here isn't even a tiny representation of the attitude of the population at large.
Or WHAT? You'll taze him? Bash his head against the roof of the car when you take him away? Put the cuffs on just that extra little bit tighter? Get your boys to beat him down and show him who holds the power? He'd better shut his fucking mouth if he knows what's good for him, cause your a COP and you get special respect goddamnit!
You've certainly got the attitude of a pig. You were doing so well up till then, but you just couldn't help yourself could ya? Really gave yourself away.
Australia is one of the worlds big coal exporters, we export 75% of the coal we dig up. As there's only 20 million of us in a country that's almost as big as the USA that's accessible by industry all year round (unlike Canada) of course we're going to be number one per capita when it comes to resources.
At any one time outside of Newcastle which is one of our biggest coal ports there's dozens of ships waiting to pickup a load, it's quite a sight. Funnily enough right next to that, where all those millions of tonnes of coal are moved each year there's a giant wind turbine, and the CSIRO has an alternative energy research centre overlooking the train yard that delivers the coal to the port that's also got wind turbines on top...
I've only got issue with the first paragraph of your post, which to be honest speaks more about you than the rest.
We've managed to survive for thousands of years without leashes and violating our childrens bodies with electronics. Me, you and every person on this planet who is an adult survived childhood without all that bullshit, all six billion of us.
Violating their bodies to implant electronic devices to appease YOUR weak and soft mind is not acceptable, not to any reasonable person, which after reading your rants...you don't seem to be. Your kids are probably terrified of you, and not in a good way.
You sound hard, very very hard and your kids will rebel against you equally as hard when they become teens. That's if they don't hate you first, because half the things you list aren't about them, they're about YOU and your own insecurities and general hysterical...well...pussiness to be honest. Your terrified something might happen, so you come down on them like nails and worst of all, you don't let *them* have the freedom that you enjoyed as a child, it's hypocritical and weak.
Yes, very shitty things happened to some (i know better than most), but to the VAST MAJORITY of those it was their PARENTS and FAMILY that did shitty things to them, it's a tiny minority of kids who have things happen to them outside the home.
Sometimes as parents we've have just gotta hold our breath and let them figure the world out for themselves, good AND bad. Because if you don't do it now, when you can help them, once they hit the real world they'll be fucked, it's a nasty, ruthless place out there and they'll make a few bad decisions which will ruin their lives and they'll blame YOU.
Yes i have children, and no I'm not a soft lefty sook.
A family is not a democracy, but it's not a ruthless criminal dictatorship either, it's a family so lighten up.
"We imagine pulling into a filling station and attaching a cable to our car and filling the battery; the problem is that you need to either (a) deal with dangerously high currents or (b) deal with dangerously high voltage."
As opposed to dangerous highly flammable liquids...
In fact electrical connections would be far safer, disconnection from the vehicle would mean instant shutoff. I imagine the plug would have some sort of screw on connection that wouldn't allow charge to flow without first being properly attached. Fuel pumps require a conscious human action to turn them on and off (albeit a very small one).
That said, is it even possible to charge a battery of that size in a few minutes?
"Gearboxes are really for converting torque to rotation"
Just to be annoying, torque IS rotation, specifically the application of force around an axis...
Gearboxes are actually torque multipliers.
I'm sure you know what you mean, and from the rest of your post looks like you've got a decent handle on it all, but there's already too much misunderstanding of torque vs power in the world. Actually there's a generally disturbingly poor mechanical knowledge on the net...best to keep it clean and not make it any worse.
We don't have to speculate, there's already a historical similarity, the Boer conflict. A conflict that draws many similarities to the American revolutionary war minus one thing...The Boers didn't have an external economic and military powerhouse virtually bankrupting itself to help them, and eventually the Boers couldn't try to both protect their families and wage a war internally.
In response to the highly successful guerrilla campaign being waged by the Boers against the British...
"Kitchener initiated plans to "flush out guerrillas in a series of systematic drives, organized like a sporting shoot, with success defined in a weekly 'bag' of killed, captured and wounded, and to sweep the country bare of everything that could give sustenance to the guerrillas, including women and children. . . . It was the clearance of civilians - uprooting a whole nation - that would come to dominate the last phase of the war."
"The British also implemented a "Scorched Earth" policy under which they targeted everything within the controlled areas that could give sustenance to the Boer guerrillas with a view to making it harder and harder for the Boers to survive. As British troops swept the countryside, they systematically destroyed crops, burned homesteads and farms, poisoned wells, and interned women, children and workers in concentration camps."
"Of the 28,000 Boer men captured as prisoners of war, 25,630 were sent overseas."
"In all, the war had cost around 75,000 lives; 22,000 British soldiers (7,792 battle casualties, the rest through disease), between 6,000 and 7,000 Boer soldiers, and, mainly in the concentration camps, between 20,000 to 28,000 Boer civilians (mainly women and children) and perhaps 20,000 black Africans (both on the battlefield and in the concentration camps)."
Would you hide in the mountains to fight, if that meant leaving your family unprotected? Who could continue to fight knowing their wife and children were going to have to deal with a ruthless military alone?
77% of firearm related deaths here in Australia were suicides, 90% of those 250 reduced deaths were suicides.
Unfortunately suicide by hanging has increased *exactly* the amount that suicide by firearm has decreased. Homicides involving firearms have decreased by about 1% since 1990 and have been decreasing at the same rate since the 1980s. So those 250 people, most of them are still dead, they just hung themselves.
Australia NEVER had a gun crime problem.
The Institute of Criminology says: "In total there were 5083 registered firearm related deaths in Australia between 1991 and 2001. Suicides accounted for the majority of these firearm related deaths (77 per cent), followed by homicide (15 per cent)." - http://www.aic.gov.au/publications/cfi/cfi066.html
"When the firearm suicide rate for Australian males declined the hanging rate increased simultaneously, with no statistical difference in the rate of change of the two methods." - http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12882416
Everyone *please* stop talking rubbish about Australian gun laws until you read the figures yourself.
Homicides have not been statistically altered by the gun laws here.
This is *exactly* what happened last year here in Australia.
Mohammed Haneef, an Indian doctor in Queensland was arrested by the federal government over the most idiotically flimsy link to the airport attacks in the UK one could imagine.
Well, it quickly became was pretty clear they had nothing on him. In fact the government had so little on him that they purposefully and carefully fabricated, spun and lied to the press about what they did have on him. It all began to unravel and the truth came out thanks to his lawyer and a healthy grain of salt taken with the obvious rubbish the government was dishing out, so what do they do? Try cancel his visa on "Character Grounds" so that they can deport him before it gets to the courts and people find out how ruthless, and quite frankly evil that that particular government was being. Fortunately the courts saw through their bullshit and gave him back his Visa.
The government eventually dropped all charges, being that it had all been shown to be an obvious and complete farce.
The immigration line is bullshit, ALL immigrants in western countries can be deported for any reason what-so-ever if the respective Depts of Immi get told to get rid of them.
Mark my words this bloke's being deported because it's going to be an embarrassment to the government. It's the easiest way for them to get rid of him.
The worst thing is so many fools buy it hook, line and sinker. just like they did here with Haneef, there was plenty of people left looking like idiots when it came out what the government really was up to. Four months later that government (that had been in power for 12 years) was swept out of power in the biggest loss of power by a government in this countries history. It was that sort of dishonest, ruthless behaviour that caused it.
I think you'll find that it's part of the American culture to assume that they got where they are on their own, under their own steam by the sweat of their own brow, and that the rest of the world is a bunch of useless incompetent fools who blunder along blindly. Kind of the same attitude that teenagers have about their parents and grandparents. Not having the slightest clue what it was like for them and that they haven't actually gone through *anything* without someone holding their hand yet.
The truth of history is completely at odds with this, Americas success came from being geographically isolated from it all and more than a bit of international help when needed. This and the same double crossing ruthlessness that they accuse the rest of the world of has led to the USA of now, not some magical concoction of pixie dust available only to Americans. Just population and a smooth run for over 100 years. My country's the same, but we just call ourselves lucky.
It's nicer to believe myths than the truth, especially a truth that painfully goes against everything you 'know'.
Even the truth of what the French endured last century is quite painful to understand to a reasonable person. How many tens of millions dead and wounded, how viciously they fought in WW1, under conditions that make Iraq and Vietnam look like a stay at the Hilton in comparison. Where chemical weapons were used by both sides like regular munitions, fields were metres thick with the dead tens of thousands of men, who died to gain inches of land. Then 20 years later they have to do it all over again.
Then fifty years later three thousand out of two hundred million yanks die in the first attack on her home soil...well ever, and the biggest tantrum in the last fifty years is thrown and we're told over and over and over again how we should all feel so sorry and damn it, it's just the worst thing ever to happen to anyone! We listen for nearly a decade about how awful it all was, patting them on the head, saying "there there it's ok". All the while quietly waiting for them to grow a pair and grow the fuck up. How they have the audacity to put shit on the frogs who each and everyone lived through, experienced *personally* not just on the TV or paper, and fought valiantly in the most awful warfare in the history of this world...twice, when they carry on like such a bunch of drama queens about such a tiny incident in the history of the world is quite frankly embarrassing.
It's ok to have a bit of a dig and friendly rivalry, but the yanks seem to have started believing their bullshit. The comparison of an immature bratty teenager really is apt.
Damn straight! Make those bastard unborn generations pay the Chinese and Saudis back all the money your borrowing from them to run your government, nationalise banks and wage pointless wars...your keeping what's yours right?

So much juvenile idiocy in this thread.
My ex ran a cake decorating business.
Trying hard to break down those stereotypes.
Most of our 'outback' used to be under the ocean, many moons ago.

"Look into the numbers. There are links in my other posts, or simply use Google."
Ok...I looked into the numbers here in Aus..
Suicide by hanging has increased at *exactly* the same rate as suicide by firearm decreased since the 1996 gun laws.
http://www.atypon-link.com/GPI/doi/abs/10.1521/suli.33.2.151.22775
So *that* little bit of your post was "sounds about right" completely wrong rubbish, how much else of it is?
Oops here in Aus accidental firearm deaths have RISEN since the 1996 gun laws...
http://www.aic.gov.au/publications/cfi/cfi066.html
Hmm, perhaps your making things up.
Sorry, homicides here in Australia have always been in the 10s per year, even before the 1996 gun laws.
http://www.aic.gov.au/publications/cfi/cfi066.html
The gun laws have only reduced suicide by firearm.
That is all.
Don't let facts and hard figures get in the way of a good bullshit rant though.
Statistics can be manipulated, but omitting facts is LYING.
And a nice little graph for the illiterate.
http://www.aic.gov.au/publications/cfi/cfi066.html
77% of firearm related deaths here in Australia were suicides, 90% of those 250 reduced deaths were suicides.
Unfortunately suicide by hanging has increased *exactly* the amount that suicide by firearm has decreased. Homicides involving firearms have decreased by about 1% since 1990 and have been decreasing at the same rate since the 1980s. So those 250 people, most of them are still dead, they just hung themselves.
Australia NEVER had a gun crime problem.
The Institute of Criminology says:
"In total there were 5083 registered firearm related deaths in Australia between 1991 and 2001. Suicides accounted for the majority of these firearm related deaths (77 per cent), followed by homicide (15 per cent)."
"When the firearm suicide rate for Australian males declined the hanging rate increased simultaneously, with no statistical difference in the rate of change of the two methods."
Hopefully the UK will be next.
