  1. So would you be fired? on Alabama IT Whistleblower Fired For Spyware · · Score: 1

This raises a good point: how productive are we as an economic society? Do any of us put in anything close to 100% effort? I'd say our economy is operating at around 50% of its productive capacity due simply to labor laziness. Tons of workers only put in enough effort to keep their jobs (and others just enough to look good), but few put in their best work in every situation.

:-) Thanks. Apparently no one with any mod points saw that. But it's okay. The group I posted it to loved it, even though I was only an improvement over a previous attempt at a similar parody. (That is, someone else had the idea and it worked well enough, but I modified it to make sure all the details and the speech style matched up...)

Anyway, thanks for the kind words. I hope more people get to read and enjoy this. :-)

  6. Agent Elrond! on Celebrity Casting For LOTR · · Score: 1

As you can see, we've had our eye on you for some time now, Mr. Aragorn. It seems that you've been living two lives. In one life, you're Aragorn, son of Arathorn, descended from Isildur and heir to the throne of Gondor. You have a deep family history that reaches into past ages, you give hope to men and keep none for yourself, and you want to marry my daughter.

The other life is lived in the shadows, where you go by the ranger alias "Strider" and are guilty of virtually every violation of kingship we have a law for. One of these lives has a future with my daughter, and one of them does not.

I'm going to be as forthcoming as I can be, Mr. Aragorn. You're here because we need your help. We know that you've been contacted by a certain individual, a hobbit who calls himself Frodo Baggins. Now whatever you think you know about this hobbit is irrelevant. He is considered by many authorities to be carrying out the most dangerous burden of all: the One Ring of Power.

My colleagues believe that I am wasting my time with you, but I believe that you wish to do the right thing. We're willing to wipe the slate clean, give you a fresh start, and all that we're asking in return is your cooperation in bringing a hobbit to Mount Doom and accepting the crown of Gondor.

(The "attack" of the clones was barely even an attack until the post-film cartoons, and it had very little to do with the purpose of the second film in the trilogy. Then again, "Attack of the Clones" is better than "Send in the Clones", and it echoes the cheesiness of past Star Wars films that we've come to expect, and considering the equally goofy name "Star Wars" in the first place, we should have little room to complain. Most importantly, Spidey would have needed to have sped up after the air resistance slowed him down and carried him behind the moving train in order to hit Doc Oc at all.

They should have shown him slinging a web at the bridge when he came out the other side and then slamming a kick into Doc Oc as the train passed beneath him. Physics does not allow Spidey to do what he did in that scene.

  17. In theatres first? One reason to think so. on Will LOTR:ROTK Extended Edition Hit Cinemas? · · Score: 1

The best reason to believe that the extended edition of Return of the King will hit theatres before DVD is that a release date has not been announced yet! In 2002 and 2003, the release dates of the extended editions of FOTR and TTT had been announced well in advance of their theatrical versions' DVD releases. That the same is not true of ROTK suggests that more is in store.

Of course, they could just be working on putting together some special stuff for a final release with special stuff for the extended edition trilogy.

Or Peter Jackson and crew could be devoting more energy to a sixty-foot ape.
