Ever worked on a contract where the requirements are spelled out? I'm betting you haven't.

The word "should" is implied everywhere. The word "should" means "will do this or will violate the contract" not "may if you want".

Previous posters were talking about a standards document, not a contract. Most standards documents define exactly what "should" means or point to a document that does.

I haven't read this standard, but I'd be stunned if you were right.

I agree that the Republican's bent their platform to include pro-lifers and the religious right. And think about this: How hard has the GOP tried to "fix" those issues?

If they actually managed to outlaw abortion, they'd risk loosing a portion of that voting block. Those one-issue types would move on to their next top issue unless they feared the Dems reversing things.

Because of these religious issues, the "Red" states are full of poor people voting for the party that consistently helps the rich.

I get so tired of this argument. The vast majority of Americans prefer to pay over time.

    • Do you think a Tivo only costs $100 (or $0 after some rebate combinations) to make?
    • Do you think that cell phones are really free?
Like you, I dislike recurring fees. So I considered the lifetime subscription as part of the cost of the box. The break even point was less than two years and I passed that a long time ago.

Tivo gives you a choice of pay up front or pay for service. But some people would rather complain about one choice than take the other.

Good to know. I'm building my backend box now. But no way this has the horsepower to decode HD mpeg 2 streams. That's the reason I'm going Myth instead of sticking with my Tivo.

Someone needs to merge the Mac Myth frontend with the firewire output. No decoding necessary. (There is a Mac app somewhere that acts like a DVHS player and can drive TVs with firewire input. This can't be done with Linux yet.)
